Los Angeles is looking to avoid its first sweep of the 2017 season and the first at the hands of the Nats since Aug. 26-28, 2008 at Nationals Park. Following an off day and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala tomorrow, the Dodgers close out the homestand this weekend with three games against the Cincinnati Reds. Since becoming the Nationals, Washington has never swept the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, with the last franchise sweep taking place Aug. 28-30, 1987. In that series, the Expos won three consecutive one-run games over Los Angeles (two in extra innings), in games started by Orel Hershiser, Shawn Hillegas and Fernando Valenzuela. At 21-10 (.677), the Dodgers own the second best home record in baseball, trailing only the Diamondbacks (22-8, .733). Not to go unnoticed, the Nationals are 21-11 on the road, which is the second best mark away from home in the National League. STRONG LIKE OAKS: Congratulations are in order for Triple-A Oklahoma City starter Trevor Oaks, who was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 29June 4. Oaks made just one start, firing 7.0 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits while striking out seven without a walk last Monday at New Orleans. In addition, the Riverside native hit his first professional home run in the game, a three-run shot in the 11-1 victory. This season, Oaks is 3-2 with a 3.99 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City. This is Oaks’ second-career weekly PCL Award as he won the honor last season for the perios spanning Aug. 15-21. The 2014 seventh-round draft selection joins teammate Wilmer Font (May 15-21) as the only OKC Dodgers to win a weekly pitching award this season. IT’S NOT JUST YOU: Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for his 13 th start of the season this afternoon fresh of becoming the third-fastest pitcher to 2,000 strikeouts and looking to continue his career brilliance against the Nationals: CAREER ERA VS.
