CLASSIC FINISH: The Dodgers continue their three-game set

Boys in Blue will conclude the homestand with a weekend series

which is the second best home record in the National
League thus far:

Actor Dr. Ken Jeong will introduce the lineup and actress

HILL-TOPPER: The Dodgers will send southpaw Rich Hill to the
mound tonight, as he will make his fourth start of the season. Hill
last pitched on May 16 against the Giants, allowing just one run on
six hits with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings, as he did not factor in the
decision in the Dodgers’ 2-1 loss. In three starts this season, he has
gone 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA (4 ER/13.0 IP) and has struck out 13
batters against five walks.
Since joining the Dodgers on July 30, 2016, Hill has gone
4-3 with a 2.09 ERA (11 ER/47.1 IP) and has held opposing
batters to a .211 average. He has struck out 52 batters
against only 10 walks in 47.1 innings, while posting a 0.95

YAZ HE CAN: Dodger backstop Yasmani Grandal slugged his
fifth home run in last night’s contest to put the Dodgers on the board
first with a solo shot in the first inning. Grandal has hit safely in 14
of his last 15 games since May 3, batting .411 (23-for-56) with seven

THE STARTING LINE: Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw was
brilliant once again in last night’s start as he allowed just one run on
three hits in a season-high 9.0 innings, as he did not factor in the
decision. Dodger starters have been solid all year, as they lead the
Majors with a 1.18 WHIP, while ranking at the top of the senior
circuit in wins (21, 2nd), ERA (3.47, 2nd), strikeouts (255, 2nd),
opponents’ batting average (.241, 4th), opponents’ OPS (.687, 2nd),
strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.34, 1st), strikeout per nine innings (8.77,
4th) and fielding-independent pitching (3.63, 1st).
The Dodger bullpen followed Kershaw’s strong start last
night, by allowing just one hit in 4.0 scoreless innings led
by Kenley Jansen (1.0 IP, K), Pedro Báez (1.0, K), Luis
Avilán (1.0, K) and Josh Fields (1.0, K). The ‘pen currently
ranks the best in the National League in ERA (3.05), WHIP
(1.16), strikeout per nine innings (11.08) and strikeout-to-
walk ratio (3.85). They also rank among the best in the NL
in strikeouts (185, 2nd), home run per nine innings (0.78,
2nd) and fielding independent pitching (2.73, 1st).
Overall, the Dodger pitching staff currently leads the big
leagues with a 3.32 ERA (152 ER/412.0 IP) and WHIP
(1.17), while ranking first in the NL in opponents’ on-base
percentage (.294), opponents’ slugging percentage (.376),
opponents’ OPS (.669), strikeouts (440) and strikeout-to-
walk ratio (3.61).
OFFENSIVE SURGE: The Dodger offense has been clicking on
all cylinders at Chavez Ravine this season ranking among the best in
the Majors in runs (134, 4th), doubles (51, 2nd), RBI (126, 4th), batting
average (.270, 5th), on-base percentage (.354, 4th) and OPS (.816, 4th)
at home. The club also ranks among the best in the National League
in hits (217, 3rd) and home runs (33, T-5th).
Logan Forsythe, who was reinstated prior to last night’s
contest from the 10-day disabled list with a right great toe
fracture, knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI
double in the bottom of the 13th inning. It was Forsythe’s
second walk-off hit of his career and his first since June 5,
2012 with the Padres against the Giants. He has reached
base safely in eight of nine games at home this season,
batting .321 (9-for-28) with four runs, two doubles and
three RBI along with a .444 on-base percentage.
In 15 games at home this season, Chris Taylor has hit .333
(13-for-39) with eight runs, five doubles, three home runs
and nine RBI. Taylor has also walked nine times against
just 10 strikeouts in 48 plate appearances at Dodger
Stadium, as he is posting a .458 on-base percentage and a
1.151 OPS. He ranks among the best in the NL (min. 25
AB) in home on-base percentage (11th), slugging
percentage (.692, 10th) and OPS (8th).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOLESY! The Dodgers would like to wish
outfielder Andrew Toles a very happy 25th birthday today! Toles
underwent successful season-ending surgery on his right ACL
yesterday, which he tore on May 9 against the Pirates. The surgery
was performed by Dodgers’ head physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache at
the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic – a Cedars-Sinai Affiliate in Los Angeles. He
batted .271 with 17 runs, three doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI
in 31 games this season.
REMBERING THE 3-DOG: On this date in 1973, Dodger
outfielder Willie Davis became the first Los Angeles Dodger to
record six hits in a 16-inning game against the New York Mets.
Davis finished the game going 6-for-9 with a run, an RBI and a stolen
base. The two-time All-Star spent 14 seasons with the Dodgers and
holds the LA Dodger franchise record in hits with 2,091.
