Introduction

This report analyzes the employment and graduate school status (known through this report as Career Outcomes) for

people who graduated in December 2015, April 2016 and August 2016 (known in this report as the Class of 2016). This

report contains information on graduates from the College of Architecture, Design & Construction Management, the

College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering & Technology and the College of Professional & Continuing

Education. Included in this report is the knowledge rate and career outcome rate for each major, school and the

Institute. Employers and starting salaries by major are included as is graduate school, degree and area of study.

Graduates were asked to provide information on their favorite memory of their time at Wentworth, which is provided at

the end of this report.

National Standards

In January 2014, the Board of Directors for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) approved guidelines regarding the collection and reporting of student career outcomes. Definitions and timelines were established and introduced to college career centers. NACE established these guidelines in response to the national question of the value of higher education at a time of escalating costs associated with earning a degree. The federal Department of Education is also establishing a national scorecard where colleges will be required to post information about their student success post-graduation. To ensure Wentworth Institute of Technology meets the national standards, the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, also known as Co-ops + Careers, utilized the NACE methods of data collection and reporting. This report will use two terms uncommon to most readers.

“The term ‘knowledge rate’ defines the percent of graduates for which the institution has reasonable and verifiable information concerning the graduates’ post-graduation career activities.

o This information may come directly from the graduates via, for example, a survey method. Relevant data, however, may also be provided by employers, or obtained through other sources (e.g., LinkedIn profiles, other online sources, fellow graduates, or parents). The institution should make good faith efforts to verify the information obtained by any source other than the graduate or in any case where there is some concern about the accuracy of the available information.

o The goal should be the highest possible rate, but institutions should strive for a minimum knowledge rate of 65 percent. The knowledge rate refers to basic information about the career outcomes of graduates (e.g., employed or continuing education). It is a given that in some instances certain information relative to the details of that status (e.g., salary for those employed) may not always be provided or may otherwise be difficult to obtain.

Career Outcomes data concerning individual graduates should be organized into standardized categories. Individual graduates should be included in the appropriate category that best represents their primary activity upon graduation. While in certain instances, graduates may be pursuing multiple activities (e.g., working part time and taking graduate courses), their status should only be reported once in their primary area of activity.”i

Methodology

In April 2016 and August 2016, the Cap and Gown survey was administered to all bachelor’s and master’s degree

students who participated in the commencement exercises that included the December 2015 graduates, netting

responses from 780 people. Six months after each graduation, a survey was sent, via Survey Monkey, to graduates who

responded at commencement that they were not yet employed nor accepted into graduate school. In February 2016,

Co-ops + Careers researched on LinkedIn graduates who did not respond to the survey who were not employed at

commencement nor indicated that they were going on to graduate school. This yielded information on 69 graduates, 11

of which verified their LinkedIn information via email. We also received information from six faculty and confirmed two.

Through these efforts, we received knowledge of 521 of the 780 participants of both commencement exercises, yielding

a 67% knowledge rate for day and CPCE students combined.

Executive Summary

Our knowledge rate of 67% is consistent this year to last year as is our Career Outcomes rate of 98%. The median salary

of our graduates is also the same as last year at $60,000 and meets the national median salary for the class of 2016 as

reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers Salary Survey published Fall 2016. Significantly more

graduates have accepted a position from their co-op employer than have in the past, up to 42% from 27%. Therefore,

more graduates were offered positions from their co-op employers, up to 59% from 41%. Of those that are employed,

92% of the day students and 93% of CPCE students report that their work is related to their academic major, down

slightly from last year’s 95% of day students. This year, 10 employers hired at least five members of the class of 2016.

Most our students continue to live in the Northeast with Massachusetts overwhelmingly having the most, followed by

New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine. Outside of New England, many of our students are working in New York,

California and New Jersey. Of those that we have data, 10% of our students are going on to graduate school. The

majors that are sending the most to graduate school are: Architecture, Computer Information Systems, Biomedical

Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Project Management. Most students are continuing this education at Wentworth.

More than one are heading to Northeastern and UConn. Some of the unique schools to which an alumnus is attending

are: the University of Sydney, Texas A&M, UT-Austin, Georgia Institute of Technology, MIT, Johns Hopkins and University

of Michigan-Dearborn. Most our students are seeking a M. Arch followed by a MS. One each is seeking a MBA,

doctorate and a Master of Education.

Outcomes

For the second year, the survey asked graduates from the College of Professional and Continuing Studies about the

impact their Wentworth education has had on their professional life. Of those that reported, 70% reported receiving a

promotion and 70% reported receiving a salary increase. Eighty-six percent reported that job opportunities are available

to them now that were not prior to their degree, 96% reported that their job performance has improved, 93% reported

that their technical knowledge and skills have improved and 97% report feeling more confident in the workplace. Using

the learning outcomes of each of the day program’s majors, the survey, for the first time, asked questions to measure

the effectiveness of the education at Wentworth. This data is reported on for each major and may be used for

accreditation purposes.

What is your favorite Wentworth memory?

63 Hillside

Acceptance

All 4 years in this beautiful city at this amazing school have been wonderful!

All memories are good memories.

All the friends I made here. (56)

All the memories that I made with my roommates who I became good friends with from freshmen year.

Almost impossible to say, if I had to choose it was living in 555 (Most of my sophomore year).

Baker Hall (2)

BBQ in the quad (15)

Beatty Hall

Being a part of an awesome community

Being around my creative friends and the hammocks of course!

53

Being in Boston (3)

Building a giant snow man on the quad!

Chilling in the park.

Chilling with buds in dorm and having a grand ol time

Coming back to school after finishing a summer co-op and meeting up with all my friends.

Completing my last final.

Completing the journey

Dean Wenner tweeting a picture of me.

Dean Wenner's opening speech at orientation, explaining how she cut some one off in traffic and the driver flipped her off, she then had to see the father at orientation that day

Discovering myself little by little over the course of my stay here.

Everything was great!

First day on campus, when the entire freshmen class was on Sweeney Field. It had the right atmosphere.

First time going out with my new friends and roommate to MassArt for dinner.

Floor Friends Thanksgiving in Edwards Hall.

Free pass to MFA

Freshman year (3)

Freshman year. One of my roommates, and about 6 others on the floors, became really good friends and roomed together for the rest of college. Some left but we are all still really close.

Freshmen year in Baker Hall.

Fridays after classes.

Friends (14)

Getting accepted into the school freshmen year.

Group projects. I miss them! (Maybe)

Hammocks on the quad (3)

Hanging out with a group of friends in Evan's way dorm freshman year building architectural models all together.

Hanging out with friends on the quad in the summer. Move-in freshman year.

Hanging out with friends over the weekend at Weekends of WIT

Hanging out with friends, and celebrating championships.

Hiding from the security guard all over Annex from 2am till around 3:30am in the morning when he left. It was an extreme game of hide and seek, people were hiding in places and doing things you would never believe.

I can't pick one. The entire experience, through classes, projects, and friends I've made are some of the best experiences of my entire life!

I have had too many to pick out one in particular. I have enjoyed my time at Wentworth over the past 3 years. I have learned so much and met so many great people that I hope to stay in touch with post graduation. I have loved Boston for the time I have spent here as well.

In general feeling accepted and having an overall positive experience during my time at school.

54

Knowing some friends who has same ambition to build their future together.

Living in Boston and meeting new people. (7)

Living in the dorms with all of my friends

Meeting new people

Meeting new people and all of the different tours of different buildings like the Prudential

Meeting Rachel Keen the love of my life

Meeting some very open minded and interesting people

Midnight breakfast and my major. We weren't competitive like other ones and was more concerned about helping one another. I've made good friends, Thank you for the experience.

Mission Hill

My amazing suitemates, minus 1

My favorite memory at Wentworth was working hard with my fellow peers. Working on group projects helped me gained a lot of skills and prepared me for working with groups in my career.

My favorite memory would have to be running a 200 mile Ragnar Relay race with incredible Wentworth students, faculty and staff and rasing money for our Student Emergency Fund. #WentworthIT

My favorite Wentworth memory in general was just spending time with my fellow classmates that made this a wonderful college journey.

My favorite Wentworth Memory is definitely the two Wentworth Balls I attended. Very efficient at great locations.

My favorite Wentworth memory is how the school came together during the Marathon bombings during the finals of my freshman year. I also am so grateful for all of the wonderful professors and mentors that have helped me along the way. And I am so thankful for my friends.

My first day of class when I realized everyone in the class was just as scared as I was.

One of my favorite Wentworth memory is moving in early for preseason of soccer. The school is basically empty and all there is to do is play the sport in which you love.

Pulling all nights

Red Sox winning the World Series when I was there

Relaxing with my roommates, and exploring Boston with them.

Saturday nights with the boys

School

Senior Week (2)

Seriously year was by far my favorite. The summer classes, laying in the grass in the sun and having the freedom to do your own thesis project was just the best. I think Wentworth did a great job with making it a fun time with the event and study abroad opportunities.

Sharing classes with the same people throughout the 4 years that I was here.

Snow day shenanigans

Snow storm sophomore year. We walked down the middle of a snow covered Huntington Avenue to the get hot chocolate at the Pru.

Sox Winning world series

Squad Chill out Sessions

Summer afternoons on the quad with my boyfriend after completing a very important (and much procrastinated) assignment.

Team work

The classmates

The connections that I have made. (2)

The drastic change in lifestyle.

The evenings spent on my bed with all my friends in Evans way

The first day of school ... Different atmosphere

The first day of the first class.

The group projects

The late-night adventures with friends freshman year. Or the summer semesters with live music, barbeques, hammocks, and all your friends.

The new student orientation was one of the most fun experiences I had at Wentworth. Managing to get all A's during one semester.

The tennis courts. Please keep those.

Too many to choose from (5)

Faculty and Academics

A lot of manufacturing memories!!

Academic experiences had in Prof. Michael Dunlop and Prof. Hoosain Noorian's class

All of the professors that have taught me lifelong lessons.

Architecture Studio

Art and Architecture Class

Being a part of my wonderful major during Senior Design Presentations - sharing similar struggles, mindsets and the excitement of graduation around the corner.

Being involved in an EPIC studio

Building a concrete airplane

Building a Drone

Building a drone in Computer Aided Manufacturing

Building team projects and freshman year.

Capstone (7)

Charlie Wiseman's classes. This guy can teach in an entertaining and engaging way.

Class with Wiseman

Computer Aided Manufacturing, with professor Rourke.

Creating my senior business plan for my family business that I got to implement in the real world. Seeing the project come together in my final semester at Wentworth was one of the most rewarding things I've done

Deadlines on assignments because realistically, this is what I'm going to face in the real world.

Design department professors were exceptional people and teachers

Every single day in Analog Circuit Design with Prof. Villanuci

Everyone is helpful and the classes were tough enough to make me use critical thinking

Fluids related courses

For Capstone, we were able to speak on the phone with a now retired government official. I thought that was pretty cool to be able to talk to someone that worked at his level. But I think my favorite memory will be graduation!

Getting to know all my professors personally.

Getting to know everyone in my major throughout the 4 years

Getting to meet all of the comp sci staff, they rock.

Great relationships with professors which led to being funded to go to the conference in Salt Lake city

I had the best professors within my major, they were very helpful and informative, I wouldn't change them for the world

I loved most of the professors. Really smart people that gave me insight to the real world

Learning how to use Revit, Project, and Learning how to schedule a project.

Making the wobbler engine in Manufacturing 1000

57

Manufacturing

Meeting all the professors and having gained professional skills and knowledge from them to use in the workplace.
