Vincent A. Thomas '86 has accepted theposition of Assistant Dean for Student andMulticultural Affairs at the University of St.Thomas School of Law in St. Paul, Minne-sota. He will also serve as an adjunct Pro-fessor of Law. Thomas continues to serveon the Law School's Board of Visitors.

Thomas F. Cotter '87 has joined theUniversity of Minnesota Law School as aProfessor of Law. Previously Cotter taughtat Washington and Lee University Schoolof Law and the University of Florida Col-lege of Law. His areas of expertise areintellectual property and antitrust law.

Regina Millner '85 has been namedChair of the Board of the Wisconsin AlumniAssociation for the 2006-07 term. Millneris the founder of RMM Enterprises, a firmthat works with business and governmenton complex real estate projects. She hasbeen an active member of the WAA Boardfor several years.

Bette J. Roth '84 has been named Co-Chair of the Alternate Dispute ResolutionCommittee of the Boston Bar Association'sLitigation and International Law Sections.Roth is a mediator and arbitrator who hasdevoted her practice to dispute resolu-tion since 1992. She is co-editor of thetwo-volume text The Alternative DisputeResolution Practice Guide.

Vincent P. Lyles '87 has been namedPresident of M & I Bank's CommunityDevelopment Corporation, Milwaukee.The for-profit subsidiary sponsors, lendsto, and invests in projects and businessespromoting the public welfare in communi-ties served by M & I banking operations.Previously, Lyles was an investmentbanker with Robert W. Baird & Company.

19905Roberta J. "Bobbi" Corda no '90 hasbeen named Assistant Dean of the HubertH. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs atthe University of Minnesota. She was theuniversity's Director of DisabilityServices from 2000 to 2006, and workedin Minnesota's Office of the AttorneyGeneral as Special Assistant AttorneyGeneral and Assistant Attorney Generalfrom 1990 to 2000.

Keith L. Johnson '78 is a new share-holder at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C.Johnson, and is also Program Director of theWisconsin Corporate Governance Initia-tive, based at the Law School. He headsReinhart's Institutional Investor ConsultingServices section. Previously he served formore than 21 years as Legal Counsel for theState of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB).

Gregg Herman '77 is Chair-elect of theFamily Law Section of the AmericanBar Association, for a term beginning inAugust 2007. He practices family lawexclusively with the firm of Loeb &Herman, S.C., in Milwaukee.

Attorney Donna M. Jones '78 is Presi-dent-elect of the Board of Directors ofthe Non-Resident Lawyers Division of theState Bar of Wisconsin. She also serveson the Board of Governors of the State Barof Wisconsin. An Atlanta resident, Jonesis affiliated with the Lupus Foundation ofAmerica and serves on the state board ofthe National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Michael Morgan '84 has been namedSecretary of the Wisconsin Department ofAdministration (DOA), the most powerfulagency in state government, by GovernorJim Doyle. As DOA chief, Morgan overseesdevelopment of the state budget andsupervises day-to-day operations ofstate government.

Salveson's fieldof expertise is in product liability and masstort and commercial litigation practices.He has been an active trial lawyer sinceentering practice in 1983, and comes tothe firm from Gray Plant Mooty, where hewas Chair of the Product Liability and TortLitigation Practice Team.

Daniel W. Hildebrand '64, an attorney atDeWitt Ross & Stevens in Madison, hasbeen appointed by the president of theAmerican Bar Association to its AmicusCuriae Briefs Committee. For his three-year term, he will participate in reviews ofall amicus curiae briefs filed by the ABAwith the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jan E. Kearney '76 has been appointed toa five-year term as Presiding Judge of thePima County Superior Court in Tucson, Ari-zona. Kearney has been on the bench ofthe Superior Court since 2001. Previouslyshe served as an Assistant U.S. Attorneyin Tucson and Milwaukee as a prosecutor,and practiced law with Cook and Frankein Milwaukee.

William Grant Callow II '77, who prac-tices in Anchorage, Alaska, has been ap-pointed by the Queen of Denmark as Hon-orary Danish Consul of the State of Alaska.Callow has also been named OutstandingLawyer of the Year by the Anchorage BarAssociation. We thank his father, retired

19405Daniel T. Flaherty '49, of counsel withJohns, Flaherty & Collins, S.C. in LaCrosse, is now retired from the La CrosseEqual Opportunities Commission afterserving for 37 years. Flaherty and fellowUW law alum Peter Pappas '46 lobbied toform the commission in 1968 to enforcethe city's fair housing ordinance. Flahertybecame Chair in 1971, and remained thecommission's leader until he retired.

Patrick Hyde '90, a Division Chief at theU.w. Department of Labor, is the authorof The Only Pure Thing, a thriller set inWashington, D.C. (Beckham PublicationsGroup, 2007). Hyde has served as counselfor more than 1,300 criminal cases, andhas been President of the D.C. SuperiorCourt Trial Lawyers Association. Hyde'sfictional hero is defense attorney StuartClay, a seasoned D.C. defender rnuch likethe author.

Alfred Boll '93, a U.S. Foreign ServiceOfficer in Amsterdam, has published thebook Multiple Nationality and InternationalLaw (2006, Martinus Nijhoff Publishers).The foreword is by Judge Kenneth Keith ofthe International Court of Justice.

of Law in San Diego. Kransberger andher assistant, Tim Spearman '03, hostedone of only two national CLEO SummerInstitutes in 2006, bringing 47 studentsfrom disadvantaged or underrepresentedbackgrounds for six weeks of intensiveacademic preparation for law school.

Beth Donley '94, Director of the WiCellResearch Institute, was featured on thecover of the September 15 issue of TheChronicle of Higher Education. The accorn-panying article, titled "The Tough Side ofTechnology Transfer," also pictures andquotes alumnus Carl Gulbrandsen '81,Director of the Wisconsin Alumni ResearchFoundation (WARF), a key player in thefield of stem cell research.

Todd Martin '95 is a new shareholder inthe Employee Benefits Department at theMadison office of Reinhart Boerner VanDeuren S.C. He also chairs the firm'sinterdisciplinary Insurance Group.

Solomon H. Ashby Jr. '95 has beennamed a partner of the Crowther LawFirm in Atlanta. The firrn's specialtiesinclude trial advocacy, litigation, productliability, medical malpractice, toxic torts,and nursing home litigation. PreviouslyAshby practiced as a trial lawyer at Evert& Weathersby in Atlanta and Willcox &Savage in Virginia.

His practice focuses on govern-ment relations, environment, and realestate and land-use matters. Kelly Cotter '02 has been named to theNational Cancer Institute Director's Con-sumer Liaison Group. A survivor of child-hood leukemia, Cotter is co-author of thebook Kids with Courage and creator of theaward-winning Web site www.outlook-Iife.org, which provides factual information,inspirational stories, and interactive chatrooms for children who have undergonecancer treatment.

Lori A. Leonovicz '02 has joined theFraud Section of the U.S. Department ofJustice Criminal Division in Washington,D.C., as a trial attorney, primarily focus-ing on international fraud matters. Shepreviously practiced with Willkie Farr &Gallagher LLP in the firm's Washingtonand Paris offices.

Former Admissions Dean James E. Thomas DiesJames E. Thomas, who served as the Law School'sDirector of Admissions from 1993 to 1998, diedSeptember 14, 2006, in Iowa City, Iowa, after afour-week illness. He was 55.

A native of Florida, Thomas was a graduateof Florida A & M University, and earned his J.D. de-gree at the University of Iowa. He served as Directorof Admissions at the University of Iowa Law Schoolbefore coming to Wisconsin.

In sharing the news of his death with the

UW Law School faculty and staff, Dean Ken Davissaid, "Our student recruiting effort, and particularlyour LEO Program, would not be what it is todaywithout James's devotion and commitment. He trulytouched many lives, and cared very deeply for thestudents he recruited to our school."
