Learn basic skills as well as float on own and swim with instructor support or a flotation device. Learn pool and water safety. Guppy (ages 6-12)* begin to swim independently, swim with face in the water, perform front and back glides, retrieve submerged objects and learn more water safety. Minnow (ages 6-12)* work to refine crawl stroke, increasing to 25 yards. Learn the breast stroke & side stroke with accompanying kicks, front and back crawl and elementary backstroke. Gain comfort retrieving submerged objects from deeper water, treading water, jumping into deep water. Safety permitting, learn the kneeling dive and compact dive. Fish (ages 6-12)* gain endurance in crawl strokes and treading water, and refine the sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Focus on rotary breathing, sidestroke scissors kick, and breaststroke whip kick. Introduction to the dolphin kick and turns. Flying Fish (ages 6-12)* advanced class. Focus on stroke refinement including rotary and bi-lateral breathing, body position, arm & leg movements; build endurance in all strokes. Practice open turns, surface dives, and increase time treading water. Introduction to butterfly stroke and flip turns.
