Global Awareness Programs Students continue to suppor t Patr ice, our Christian Children’s Foundation sponsored child, by participating in Patrice’s Game Day. Our next game day is on March 14. Students are asked to donate $1.00 toward our $39 monthly contribution which is put toward Patrice’s basic needs. It is Patrice’s 16th birthday on March 9, 2019. The Students’ Union chose to send Patrice a monetary birthday gift of $35.
Community Awareness Programs The students and staff were happy to par ticipate in and kick off the 24 hockey fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 15. The Clandonald Ag. Society organized the fundraiser to raise funds to donate to Haying in the 30’s, which is an organization that supports people in our area that are battling cancer.

the parents who came out to help tie skates and brought along their own skates to join in. We appreciate your participa-

Partnerships Thank you, Lori Walker, for the kind donation of hand made hats and neck warmers. We appre-ciate your generosity and recognize that you put many hours into creating them.

National Nutrition Month is an annual nutrition education and information campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign, celebrated each year during the month of March, focuses on the importance of
making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
The Nutrition Month 2019 campaign is dedicated to helping Canadians Unlock the Potential of Food. Dietitians help Canadians realize the potential of food to fuel, discover, prevent, heal and bring us together.
The 2019 Nutrition Month campaign will help Canadians discover the potential of food to enhance lives, improve health, inspire children, fuel activities and bring people together.
Food is nourishment, but it’s so much more. Food unites us at the dinner table and is the centre of holidays. Food is something you can teach to children to help brighten their future. Food can improve health, prevent disease and keep us well for longer. At every touchpoint, food nourishes and inspires us. This is why dietitians love food and believe in its power to enhance lives and improve health.
This campaign will have five topics that explore the potential of food:
Potential to fuel: Stay energized by planning nutritious snacks into your day.
Potential to discover: Foster healthy eating habits in children by teaching them to shop and cook.
Potential to prevent: Understand how food can help prevent chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart dis-ease.
Potential to heal: Learn how food can promote healing and how dietitians work in health care teams to make a differ-ence.
Potential to bring us together: Enjoy the benefits of bringing families and friends together with food.

VIBE News Jodi Simmonds Vermilion and Area is Being Empowered
Welcome to March and what I hope will be a little warmer temperature and some signs of spring. Congratulations to
the kindergarten students and to the Grade 1-3 class who have just completed Superflex training. The kindies learned
about social skills like respecting personal space, using manners, thinking positively. Grade 1-3 students learned about
empathy and two-sided conversational skills. They also got a chance to create their very own Superflex character who
had special empathy powers. If you get a chance, check out their Superheroes and their written descriptions that are
up on display in the Grade 3/4 classroom. All students who learn about Superflex Academy learn skills needed to help
them get along with others and practice ways to use flexible thinking.
On February 20, students voted for a "Dansation Creation" session so that they could teach each others some awe-
some dance moves. We learned some lyrical, jazz, Ukranian, and ballet moves. Then we tried a little line dancing and
then enjoyed some old-time favorites like the Chicken Dance and the Bunny Hop. It was a great session. Thanks to all
the boys and girls who shared their skills and those who took a chance and learned something new. Great idea!
New programming in March includes the HOPE program coming to the Grade 5/6 classroom. Please note that the
VIBE Mental Health Art Contest runs from March 1 - April 18. We encourage children and youth to enter and look
forward to hosting another wonderful Art Gala on May 7. Please check in with Ms. Simmonds if you have any ques-
tions about contest rules and regulations. Creating is a wonderful way to self-express perspective, feelings, and experi-
ence and also it can be incredibly relaxing and a great way to re-charge.

Pink Shirt Day at Clandonald School on Feb. 27. Ms. Simmonds
reminded us of the importance of Pink Shirt day and encouraged
everyone to be mindful of the message each and everyday. Stu-
dents joined Ms. Simmonds and Mrs. Dutchak to take the mes-
sage out to the community. Pink pens were delivered to commu-
nity members who were participating by wearing pink.
