A note from the Principal Welcome to the latest edition of the Clairgate Chronicle.

They say “time flies when you’re having fun”. Well it’s

amazing how many wonderful things have happened since

our last newsletter.

Morisset Camp

Our Stage 3 children thoroughly enjoyed their Morisset

experience last week– they spent 3 days canoeing, rock

climbing, hiking, abseiling, participating in rope activities

and all in all having an amazing time. Huge thanks to our

wonderful teachers who went and shared this adventure:

Mrs Judge, Ms Soo Kee, Ms Grace, Mr Blanch and Mr

Wilkinson – you did a great job! I want to thank these

teachers for taking time from their own families in order to

go on camp – that is dedication and commitment – we are

so lucky to have you at Clairgate. We received a lovely

letter from one of our appreciative parents thanking the

teachers for their commitment – this was very well received

(as was the package of goodies!). Looking forward to

hearing all the camp tales!

Student Teachers

As you know Clairgate has a wealth of extraordinary

teachers with highly recognised skills and abilities. It is for

this reason that we are extremely sought after by all

universities as a school where trainee teachers can come

and learn from the best. This term we have had 5 student

teachers working and learning in our classrooms and we

now say thank you, farewell and good luck as they leave us

and finish their teaching degrees. I know our teachers and

children have enjoyed working with and guiding this next

generation of teachers. Well done to all of you.

Reports

Our teachers are busily writing their mid-year reports on

your children. These reports will be handed out at the end of

week 10 (Friday, 1st July). If you have any concerns about

these reports I would encourage you to seek an appointment

with the teacher in the first instance to discuss this.

Soccer Knockout – Girls and Boys!

WOW – both our Girls and Boys Teams reached round 3 of

this Knockout Competition – well done to all. Read the

reports later in the newsletter – congratulations to the teams

and to their amazing coaches – Mrs Thurling and

Mrs Judge!

Netball Knockout

Congratulations to our State Netball Knockout Team –

Ashleigh Becroft, Alana Bolan, Tayleah Pasili, Holly

Fitzpatrick, Ebony Knoester, Grace Manning, Isabel

Manning, Bridgette Mee, Delynda Pilbin and Jada Taylor.

This team participated in the Netball Gala Day last

Tuesday. The team played 3 games. The first 2 games

resulted in a draw and although defeated in the third game,

Clairgate gave their best efforts right up until the final

whistle. Thank you to all who supported the team – and well

done girls – you are a credit to Clairgate! Huge thanks to

Mrs Linnert for all her efforts with our netballers.

Super Clairgate Cross Country Athletes

Congratulations to Jodie Borg, Nic Haber, Jada Taylor,

Phoenix Harris, Holly Fitzpatrick and Bryson Demanuele

for making it to the Western Sydney Cross Country

competition. Good luck in this big race today.

Public Speaking Champions

Last Thursday James Fenter and Leilani Blake went to

Doonside Public School to represent Clairgate at the

District Public Speaking Finals. Both students performed

very well, with Leilani placing 5th

and James coming in as

runner up. Congratulations to both of you – Clairgate is

very proud of you.

Our senior representatives – Taleeya Ilagan and Bryson

Demanuele were both unable to make this final as they were

having a terrific time at camp – congratulations to both of

them for making it to this level.

HELP NEEDED PLEASE - ELECTION DAY - July 2nd

The P&C will have a BBQ and stall set up on Election Day. We're there from 7am setting up till 4ish packing up.

We need about 4 people helping at any one time, and are hoping for people to offer to help in 2 hour blocks? Please let Katryna (0412 303 597) know if you can help and what time you're available. We will work out a roster and confirm with you beforehand.

As always, we're very thankful for any support you can give.

If you can pick up any of the following items for us it will help making more profit, NAPKINS - TOMATO SAUCE - MUSTARD SAUCE - BBQ SAUCE. Whatever we don't use on the day will be used for the Clairgate on Parade sausage sizzle.

Sport Report

Winter Sport

Our Winter Sport program (PSSA, Gymnastics &

School Sport) will continue this term up to week 9

(Friday 24th June). There will be NO SPORT on the

last Friday of this term!

Winter sport will recommence on the 1st Friday back

next term and continue for five rounds.

Soccer PSSA State Knockout Stars

On Thursday, 2nd

June, our Soccer PSSA State

Knockout team played Round 2 of the

competition against St Clair PS at Mark Leece

field.

It had rained continually that week so the field

was still soggy. However our boys played really

well. It was a nail biting finish because when the

time ended it was two goals each school. We

played another 5 minutes each way to see if a

team could score but it didn’t happen. When this

occurs at this level the winner is the team who

scored the most corners. We had defended well

and had 8 corners while St Clair PS had 0.

We will now go through to Round 3 of the

competition.

Well done to all the boys. It was a standout effort!

Girls State Knockout Football

Wow! The Girls State Knock Out Soccer team

sure did Clairgate proud on Tuesday. They played

against Blaxland East Public School in

Glenbrook. It was a very hard fought match with

some fantastic skills on display. The final result

was a 1-0 loss but Mrs Thurling was a very proud

teacher. The girls certainly stepped up to play a

red hot Blaxland East team. It was a heroic

defensive effort by our back four girls and an

extra special mention should be given to our goal

keeper extraordinaire Jodie! Congratulations to all

the girls for their hard work and determination.

Community Information

Let’s Jump Into It!

This term, our school has been participating in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for heart program. During class fitness sessions, students have the opportunity to build upon their gross motor skills of skipping and learn about keeping their heart healthy. It is fantastic to see so many students bringing and using skipping ropes during recess and lunch times to practice the skills they have learnt during class fitness sessions. The Jump Rope teachers have organised a green container filled with skipping ropes for you to borrow at recess and lunch as well. Thank you to the students who have already registered online or through their sponsorship forms to help support the Heart Foundation. To date, Clairgate has raised over $5790 so far and we have two more weeks of fundraising before our Jump Off date on Monday the 27th of June. Please remember to register online at Jumprope.org.au or follow the link on Clairgate’s website. If you prefer to do it offline, please ask your classroom teacher for a sponsorship form. Merit Award System The reward system at Clairgate is made up of two components. They are the: Celebration of Behaviour and Celebrations of Merit. We have amazing children at Clairgate who are safe, respectful learners. The systems are separate systems, yet work in tandem, to continue to promote intrinsic pride of their behaviour and their academic achievements. The celebrations also allow the students to engage and demonstrate confidence as they progress the levels of the new systems. Celebrations of Behaviour - Classroom and Playground What is it?

The Celebrations of Behaviour system will reward all students for positive behaviour in all school settings. Every Monday morning the classroom teacher will give out achievement stickers for your horseshoe if you have been a safe, respectful learner in the classroom and playground. How does it work?

Achievement stickers will be placed on your horseshoe for doing the right thing, in all school settings, indicating you are a great school citizen. Horseshoe Cards

You will have a Horseshoe Card with your name on it displayed in your classroom. Each week, your teacher will put a sticker on one of your nails, on your horseshoe, if you have been a safe, respectful learner for the week. When you fill up all of your 9 nails on your horseshoe you will be awarded your horseshoe as a recognition certificate. (This can be achieved in one term!) Order of Cards to achieve 1 completed card = Bronze

2 completed cards = Silver

3 completed cards = Gold

4 completed cards = Platinum

Getting a Horseshoe Sticker

Horseshoe stickers are given to students who are safe, respectful learners. You can get a Horseshoe sticker, for a particular week, if you follow your particular class expectations and playground rules. You must get a positive acknowledgement for both classroom and playground behaviour for that week. In the classroom, the children can achieve a positive acknowledgement by ...

In the classroom, the child’s teacher will discuss how the children can achieve a positive acknowledgement for their behaviour for that week. Each classroom will work together to set expectations to achieve the criteria for positive acknowledgement. In the playground, the children can achieve a positive acknowledgement by ...

In the playground, the children can make sure they are on track for a positive playground acknowledgement, and therefore a sticker, by following the school rules to be a safe, respectful learner. Please note, the children will not get a sticker if they are on reflection during that week. They will have to try harder the next week. What happens when I fill up a horseshoe?

When you fill up every section on your horseshoe with stickers you will: Receive your horseshoe as a recognition certificate at the time of achievement. Be invited to a privilege activity at the end of that term. Begin working on the next level of certificate. Well done!

Celebrations of Merit What is it?

The Celebrations of Merit system will reward all students for a positive attitude towards learning. How does it work?

Children receive merit awards for positive behaviour towards learning.

The children hand their certificates into the office, in multiples of three, to have them checked and registered for the appropriate level of certificate achievement. 3 merit awards = 1 Principal’s Awards

6 merit awards or 2 Principal Awards = 1 Bronze Certificate

9 merit awards or 3 Principal Awards = 1 Silver Certificate

12 merit awards or 4 Principal Awards = 1 Gold Certificate

15 merit awards or 5 Principal Awards = 1 Platinum Certificate

18 merit awards or 6 Principal Awards = 1 Diamond Certificate

Due to the enormous popularity of Baby Time, we will be holding weekly sessions at Penrith Library as of Thursday 21 July, 2016 (Term 3). Baby Time sessions include a variety of songs and activities to share with your baby. Come along and meet other parents while having fun with your precious little one.

BABY TIME

Our library branches run toy library sessions throughout the week from 10am – 12pm during school terms. We run the sessions on Tuesdays at St Marys, Wednesdays & Saturdays at Penrith and Thursdays & Saturdays at St Clair.These stay and play sessions give children and parents a fun, social opportunity to play and meet other families and most importantly to give children an opportunity to have access to the library, learn about borrowing, the responsibility that comes with it, making independent choices about items they would like to borrow.

Sessions are staffed by the Toy Library coordinator and a wonderful team of dedicated volunteers, who give up their time to check and clean the toy sets returned and have all toys back on the shelves, ready for playing with and borrowing.

We do ask that parents and carers are mindful of staying with and monitoring their children when attending the Toy Library sessions, having one toy set out at a time, and most importantly, helping to pack away when finished playing with the toys. This helps to keep our play area safe for everyone to enjoy.
