SALARY: $31,000 to $51,000
• Ability to work as a team, communicating technical information in an organized manner

• Completion of a two year college program in civil engineering technology or a closely related discipline
• Certification in civil engineering technology or in a related filed is available through provincial associations of
engineering/applied science technologists and technicians and may be required for some positions
EDUCATION:
• Assist in developing specifications and drawings while performing technical functions in support of civil engineering activities
• Participate in field surveys, inspections or technical investigations of topography, soils, drainage and water supply systems,
roads and highway systems, buildings, structures and provide data

Civil Engineering Technicians help Civil Engineers plan and oversee the building of highways,
bridges, water/wastewater and other structures. Some estimate construction costs and specify
materials to be used, some may even prepare drawings or perform land-surveying duties like
monitoring instruments.

1You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Companyor Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training.
You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in CivilConstruction. All of this information may be found through our website.
You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gainingexperience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
