neighborhood park!

As we move into the summer months I want to continue to encourage each of you to schedule time for

yourself each day. Take a break and get out take a walk and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Regular

MEET THE STAFFThe City of Lathrop is proud to welcome our newest Parks and Recreation Staff members!

Jon Thomas joins the city as Recreation Supervisor of Youth Development. Jon

received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Ohio Christian University, in Circleville Ohio.

He comes to the City of Lathrop Parks and Recreation most recently from the YMCA of

San Joaquin County where he has spent the last 13 years of his career. Jon is a cause

driven leader who has a passion for creating and operating programs that have positive

impact and make a difference for the kids, families and communities he serves.Jon and his wife Beth, a fourth grade teacher for Manteca Unified, have been blessed

with two amazing children; Sarah who is 7, and Matthew who is 4. Jon appreciates any opportunities to travel and spend time with his family. He looks forward to the opportunity to work with the City of Lathrop, to inspire and truly make a difference for the kids, teens and families that we have the privilege to serve. Jon will be supervising

our Kid Club before and after school programs as well as the newly developing Teen program at the Lathrop Generations Center! Stop in and say hello and welcome Jon to our Lathrop Family!

Juliana Burns a long time City employee joins the Parks and Recreation staff as the Executive Assistant to

the Department. Juliana started with the City as the Sr. Administrative Assistant to the City Manager’s Office in

2007. In 2012, Juliana began serving as the Sr. Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Department

and the City Clerk’s Office. Additionally, she has been assisting the Parks and Recreation Department on an

interim assignment since 2013. Juliana’s experience and knowledge of the city processes is a great support

to the Parks and Recreation Staff.

Lathrop Police Services Annual Junior Police AcademySession One: June 8 – June 19, 2015 Session Two: July 6 – July 17, 2015Lathrop Police Services’ Junior Police Academy is designed to motivate our young people to be outstanding

citizens through Law Enforcement Education. Our young community members may not understand what police do, and why they do it. The Junior Police Academy takes the mystery out of law enforcement, and instills confidence and a sense of achievement. Two sessions are being offered to kids age 10 to 14. Session One will be June 8th through 19th and Session Two will be July 6th through 17th. Each session is two weeks long (M-F), from 8:00 AM until 12 Noon each day. The cost is $20.00 per cadet. An evening graduation ceremony is held on the last day of each session for parents and family members to attend. Each session is limited to 25 cadets, so sign up today! REFUND POLICY• Please make your selections carefully.• No refunds or transfers will be given on or after the first class. Any refund or transfer must be requested at least one working day prior to the first day of class.• All refunds will be made payable by check to the primary account contact and will be mailed to the address on file. We do not add the credit to credit cards. • Refunds will take approximately six weeks to process.• No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classed missed by the student.

FACILITY RESERVATION INFORMATIONCertain City of Lathrop park shelters may be reserved for picnics, parties, etc. Reservations should be made a minimum of 30 days in advance as shelters are limited. Reservation fees vary depending upon the size capacity of the picnic shelter and/or open space. Payment in full is due on the day the reservation is made. Inflatable bounce houses are only allowed in designated areas and require a generator and liability insurance. You may not have a bounce house at any of our parks without a park reservation.

Fields can be used for a variety of sports. You need to have a permit in order to use the field for any type of organized game or practice. Fees and deposits vary depending on the applicant. For more information, please contact Staff at (209) 941-7370.

CLASS INFORMATIONPlease review the following guidelines for participation in Parks & Recreation classes:1. Parents should escort each child to class and remain until the instructor arrives. Parents are responsible for their child until class begins. 2. No child care is provided prior to, or after class. Please arrive early to pick up your child. 3. All instructors are contractors and not City of Lathrop employees. All contractors have the option to use assistants or sub-contractors to teach class.4. Do not purchase any required supplies or attire until after the first day of class.5. Please encourage your child to use the restroom before class begins. Instructors cannot leave the class to escort a child to the restroom.6. Instructors have the option of allowing parents to remain in the class or to ask them to leave while class is in session.7. Please enroll only in classes appropriate for your child’s age. Exceptions based on skill level must be pre-approved by the instructor and the City of Lathrop Parks & Recreation Department.

FREE SNACK PROGRAM A free snack program is offered at the Lathrop Community Center each weekday throughout the school year. Any child under the age of 18 may eat free at this state funded snack program. Snack is served from 3:15pm until 3:45pm. You do not have to be part of any Lathrop Parks & Recreation Program to participate in this program. It is open to the whole community. Snacks are not served on weekends or holidays.

FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAMLathrop Community A free breakfast and lunch program is offered at the Lathrop Community Center each weekday throughout the year. This program is sponsored by the City of Lathrop and Manteca Unified School District Nutrition Services. Any child ages 2 to 18 years may eat free at this state funded food program. Breakfast is served from 8:30am – 9am. Lunch is served from 12:45pm – 1:15pm. You do not have to be part of any Lathrop Parks & Recreation Program to participate in this program. It is open to the whole community. Meals are not served on weekends or holidays. For more information visit www.musdnutrition.net

SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM Please join us this summer for Free Lunch in the Park! The Manteca Unified School District Nutrition Education Department will be hosting free lunches for all children ages 2-18, from June 2, 2015 through July 31, 2015 at the following Lathrop Parks (ID not required):

KinderCamp Program This is designed for children enrolled in morning kindergarten. This program housed at the Lathrop Community Center will consist of age appropriate activities and games and offer a healthy snack. Hours are from 1pm - 3pm. Come Join Children Helping in Program “CHIP”Kid Club presents a unique program for children in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. This program is designed for the participant to work with staff and learn the job duties related to Kid Club. The objective of this program is to offer children job skills that will last throughout their lives. This program is offered at all three sites.Fees: $2.50 per hour

Kid Club Summer CampsThe following Camps are offered to children ages 5-13 years of age or Kindergarten to 8th grade and are held at the Community Center only.

Hours are from 9am – 3pm Extended hours are available from 7am – 9am and 3pm – 6pmFee: $60 per week (700130) or $15 per day (700140).CAMP IS CLOSED ON JULY 3rd.

June 1-5. Superhero and Villain Week. Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Captain America!!! Bring your super powers and your super costumes. We are super heroes this week at camp.

June 8-12. Ninja Turtle Week. Get ready here comes the Ninja Turtles dude. Who are the Ninja Turtles named after? We will make pizza. Have you ever eaten candy sushi? Well this is the week to try candy sushi.

June 15 – 19. Rainforest Adventure. Come and explore all the rainforest has to offer. We will learn about exotic animals, water crafts, and more come along for the adventure.

June 22 – 26. Happily Ever After. Dragons, Princesses, Knights, Damsels in distress and a spot of Shakespeare thrown in for good measure. Come and step back to the days of yore with Kings and Queens of fairytales and story books.

June 29 – July 3. Stars and Stripes Week. This four day week will include activities, arts and crafts, and games honoring our service men and women. We will conclude the week with a fun-filled day of sack races, three legged races, watermelon seed contests and much more!

July 6 – 10. Christmas in July. Let’s celebrate the Holiday season with singing Carols, decorating a Christmas tree, making ornaments, cooking cookies, fudge, and celebrating with a silly gift exchange during the week.

July 13 – 17. OUTBACK!-Let’s discover all that the Australian outback has to offer. We will enjoy making boomerangs, kangaroo crafts, and become crocodile hunters.

July 20 – 24. Ooey Gooey-Are you ready for this ooey and gooey week? We are going to get slimed. Learn and play along with us as we make slime, play with cloud dough and get totally messy.

July 27 – 31. Little Chef’s Week-Grab your chef’s hat and come enjoy a week full of cooking delights. We will make chocolate fondue, make edible butterflies, pizza skewers and more. Bon Appetite!

August 3 – 7. Raiders of the lost Artifact: Are you ready to hunt for the lost artifact and climb through a tunnel. We plan on making one! come join us and see if you can beat the challenge.

Kid Club Field Trips Open to the Community These trips are designed for participants 5 to 12 years old. Youth Scholarship ProgramLathrop residents qualifying for this program will be notified by letter that they are eligible for a maximum award of $500 per family per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) to be used to pay 50% of program fees (Kid Club, sports programs and classes with some exceptions) as long as funds are available.

Eligibility Requirements:Applicant must be a Lathrop resident; receiving Public Assistance Grant (ADFC or General Assistance) verified

by your case worker or a family with a total annual income below the current HUD guidelines. Lathrop Tennis Program with Future Star 2000’s

Our tennis program is managed by Lance Turner and Future Stars 2000’s. Future Stars 2000’s began as a small tennis program founded by Lance Turner in just three cities: Stockton, Lodi, and Manteca. In 1995, Future Stars incorporated as a non-profit public-service 501c3 organization. The mission of Futures Stars 2000’s is to promote and grow the game of tennis in Northern California. Parks and Recreation would like to give a round of applause to Future Stars 2000’s for being named as the Organization of the Year for 2014 by USTA Northern California! In partnership with the USTA and the Department of Parks and Recreation, we now provide affordable tennis programs in 23 cities—making us the largest grassroots tennis organization in the country! Senior Lunch ProgramA nutritious lunch is served daily at the Lathrop Senior Center at 11:30am. The suggested donation for the meal is $2 for seniors ages 50 and up. You must sign up at least 24 hours in advance by coming in or calling the Center by noon at (209) 941-7380. A calendar with the menu for the month is available at the Senior Center.

Country BreakfastThe Senior Country Breakfast is served on the first Friday of each month at 9:00 am. The cost is $3.00 per person. Breakfast includes eggs, sausage, bacon, juice, coffee, and either pancakes, French toast, or biscuits and gravy.
