Cisco Nexus 1000V Licensing

Cisco offers a significant value to our customers with an end-to-end portfolio of data center switching products:

from core switches, to aggregation switches, to access switches. Cisco Nexus 1000V extends the same

experience of Cisco NX-OS to the virtual access layer:

● Brings the advanced feature set of Cisco NX-OS to VMware ESX and ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Linux

KVM hypervisor environments (Table 1)

● Tightly integrated with cloud management tools such as VMware vCloud Director, Microsoft SCVMM, and

OpenStack

● Brings scalable, multitenant, service insertion and chaining services technology called vPath to different

hypervisors

● Supports Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) protocol for scalable overlay networks

● Supports a strong eco-system of services including Virtual Security Gateway (VSG), vWAAS, ASA1000V,

vNAM, Citrix NetScaler 1000V

Cisco Nexus 1000V Promotion

Effective Q4CY13, you can take advantage of the Cisco Nexus 1000V promotion when you buy qualifying Cisco

Nexus 5000 and 6000 Series Switches bundles along with the Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders. Under

this promotion, Cisco Nexus 1000V Advanced Edition licenses are available at 40 percent price reduction.

Cisco Nexus 1110 Series Cloud Services Platform

The Cisco Nexus 1100 Series Cloud Services Platform (CSP) offers dedicated hardware appliances for the

deployment of network services critical to virtualized data center infrastructure (Figure 2 and Table 2). The

appliances host a number of virtual service blades (VSBs), including the following: the Cisco Nexus 1000V Virtual

Supervisor Module (VSM), which acts as the control plane (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V deployments),

the Cisco Virtual Security Gateway (VSG) to firewall east-west traffic (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V

deployments), the Cisco Prime Network Analysis Module (NAM) for in-depth analytics, the Citrix NetScaler 1000V

Application Delivery Controller (ADC), and the VXLAN-to-VLAN gateway for a mixed physical and virtual

environment. These VSBs provide a comprehensive solution for virtual networking services in the data center.

Dedicated hardware for the Cisco Nexus 1000V VSM eases virtual access switch deployment for the network

administrator, and with its support for additional VSBs, Cisco Nexus 1100 Series CSP provides crucial components

of a virtualized data center.

Cisco Cloud Networking Services

The following services are available for the Cisco Nexus 1100 Series Cloud Services Platform.

Citrix NetScaler 1000V

Citrix NetScaler 1000V is an application delivery controller solution and part of the Cisco Cloud Network Services

architecture (Figure 3 and Tables 3 and 4). It gives applications critical performance enhancements, including

offloading application servers, helping guarantee quality of service (QoS) and improving end-user experiences.

This easy-to-deploy application delivery solution can be integrated with the overall Cisco Nexus 1000V cloud

networking portfolio and run on multiple hypervisor platforms. In this way, it can be deployed on demand, anywhere

in the data center, using the Cisco Nexus 1100 Cloud Services Platform or off-the-shelf servers. The simplicity and

flexibility of Citrix NetScaler 1000V make it cost effective to fully optimize every web application and more

effectively integrate networking services with application delivery.

Cisco Virtual Security Gateway

● Customers who previously purchased the Cisco Nexus 1000V are entitled to free VSG licenses. Please

request these through your Cisco account team.

● Support for Cisco VSG is now covered under a Cisco Nexus 1000V service and support contract.

Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance for Nexus 1000V Series Switch

The Cisco ASA 1000V complements the zone-based security capabilities of the Cisco Virtual Security Gateway

(VSG) to extend Cisco's virtual and cloud security portfolios. It provides multitenant edge security, default gateway

functions, and protection against network-based attacks. Please refer to the Cisco ASA for Nexus 1000V Series

Switch ordering guide for ordering information.

Cisco Virtual Wide Area Application Services

Cisco Virtual WAAS (vWAAS) is the first cloud-ready WAN optimization solution that accelerates applications

delivered from private and virtual private cloud infrastructure, using policy-based on-demand orchestration.

Cisco vWAAS can be integrated with Cisco Nexus 1000V, which optimizes application delivery in a virtual machine

environment through Cisco vPath architecture services. Please refer to the Cisco vWAAS ordering guide for

ordering information.

Cisco Prime Network Analysis Module

Cisco Prime NAM for Cisco Nexus 1100 Series delivers traffic and performance analytics that empower network

administrators to more rapidly detect and resolve performance issues and improve the use of network resources in

the virtual machine network. Integrated with Cisco Nexus 1100 Series and Cisco Nexus 1010 Virtual Services

Appliances, Cisco Prime NAM offers a smaller network footprint, ease of deployment, and reduced administration

cost. Please refer to the Cisco Prime NAM ordering guide for ordering information.


Cisco Nexus 1000V InterCloud

Cisco Nexus 1000V InterCloud provides the architectural foundation for secure hybrid clouds, allowing enterprises

to easily and securely connect the enterprise data center to the public cloud (Table 5).

The Cisco Nexus 1000V InterCloud is currently under controlled availability.
