Cindy Gnewuch Will Serve Vacancy
As reported last week, the Holy Spirit, through the vote of the congregation, did not extend a call to Cindy Gnewuch to serve as the Minister of Music and Member Engagement during the Call Service held September 12. Still, the vote to call Cindy was close, with a strong majority of the members present at the meeting (62%) affirming the recommendation of the Call Committee. Plus, the response since then has overwhelmingly favored bringing Cindy on in a vacancy role. So we have brought her on staff as the Vacancy Director of Music and Member Engagement and will resume the call process at a later date. The fall music ministry schedule will be finalized soon. Chancel Choir rehearsals will start this Thursday, September 29th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Choir Room. Orchestra rehearsals will begin Sunday, October 2nd, at 6:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
A Letter from the Board of Servant Leaders (BoSL)
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On behalf of the BoSL, we would like to thank you for the feedback provided since the Voters’ Assembly on September 12. The BoSL works hard to listen to the congregation. We pray over and discuss all feedback we receive as the Holy Spirit guides us forward. At this time, I feel it is important to share with you the BoSL’s support and appreciation for the work of the Call Committee. These members are truly God’s servants at work – their dedication and the support from their families throughout this process are to be commended. Further, I would like to put to rest any doubts regarding the integrity of the Committee or the process itself. In the BoSL’s review of the process followed by the Call Committee, we are confident that the policies and procedures of the LCMS were adhered to. Further, the BoSL was informed throughout the Call Committee’s process and stands behind its work and recommendation. Nonetheless, the vote at the Call Service did not reach the required two-thirds majority and as such we find ourselves determining the best path forward. In order to move the music ministry forward at this time, we must make a decision to fill the vacancy while we resume the call/search process. The alternative is a leaderless music ministry until another process is complete and that is not in the best interest of the needs of Prince of Peace.

Three Minute Rule
Two weeks ago, the "Three Minute Rule" was introduced to Prince of Peace. The Three Minute Rule is simple: Spend the first three minutes after worship talking to someone you don't yet know well. After three minutes (roughly the length of the organ postlude), speak with whomever you want. The response to this rule has been excellent! Having said that, please remember what Jesus said about all worship rules: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” If you would rather pray in the pew or at the altar during the postlude, we encourage you to do that instead. Or, if you would prefer not to talk with someone new, that’s fine. The Three Minute “rule” is intended to be a gentle reminder that the church is a safe place for us to practice the first step in evangelism by bonding with people the Spirit has led to our church. God bless us with joy as we serve Him with all our heart, mind and strength!
Pastor Carl
Continued from front page In order to meet the needs of music ministry and member engagement, Pastor Carl has issued an employment agreement to Cindy Gnewuch to fill the vacancy position. This action is consistent with Prince of Peace’s Constitution, By-Laws, and Governance Policy. These documents state that the BoSL's role is to ensure that the congregation’s needs are met to satisfy the mission and vision of Prince of Peace, while the hiring of staff to meet those needs is within the responsibility of the Senior Pastor. We are also working with the SED to ensure this agreement aligns with LCMS policies and practices. I urge you to pray for Prince of Peace and support our pastors and staff during this time of transition. Change is difficult, but God is calling us to move forward. We are excited to see music ministry resume and member engagement flourish under the leadership of Cindy! The call/search process will resume, and as always, the BoSL stands ready and willing to listen to you. In God’s Sacred Peace, Erin Summers Chair, Board of Servant Leaders Celebration Breakfast to

Sparklers Senior
Luncheon
October 21 at the Rheingarten
The Sparklers luncheon last Friday was well attended and all enjoyed the variety of pizzas, side dishes, and desserts. Pastor Carl gave us all a thorough understanding and over view of the process in selecting and initiating a call for a Minister of Music and Member Engagement, a lengthy discussion period afterward. He also explained to us the Purpose of the “Three Minute Rule.” Thank you. We are looking forward to our next luncheon at the Rheingarten by Quantico with a visit to the Marine Museum afterwards. The Museum has handicapped assistance available for those who need it. As always, sign up and bring a guest! Peter Gerber (703) 451-7747 [email protected]

Support Our Preschool
Fundraiser
This year, Prince of Peace Lutheran School has chosen Genevieve’s Giftwrap for our first fundraiser, because of the quality giftwrap, delicious chocolates and the beautiful home décor and kitchen items they sell. We have a few catalogs in the Narthex and Church Office, but an easier way to support POPLS is to go to www.Genevieves.com and use account number #14168. This will allow the school to earn the profit on your sale. Let your family and friends know that they too can go to the website and see all of the items for sale, and make purchases. Just remind them to use our account number, #14168. Thank you for supporting our fundraiser this year. We know you will love your purchases from Genevieve’s!

Faith Stories
Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to Him.
MOPS Faith Story MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) got off to a great start last week. The building was full of life and joy as 40 moms came together to hear messages of inspiration, and care for one another in a Christ centered way. Thursday afternoon we received an email from one of the MOPS moms:
“Just a quick note to let you ladies know how much I appreciated this morning. It was obvious to me how much hard work and planning went into organizing everything and I am so looking forward to the rest of our meetings! This is my first time in MOPS and I honestly had no clue what to expect, but I think this is exactly what I need as a new stay at home mom and definitely the kind of community I have been searching for. Thank you again!”
This ministry would never have gotten off the ground without the tremendous efforts of Michelle Mosford and Liz McClure. Now the group is filled to capacity with ladies on the waiting list! We are excited to see God at work in the lives of all the women and children involved in this ministry.
You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the http://popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
