    Cinderella, adalah salah satu dongeng berbahasa Inggris yang sering diceritakan

    dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Selamat Membaca :

    Once upon a time... there lived an unhappy young girl. Unhappy she as, !or

    her mother as dead, her !ather had married another oman, a ido ith to

    daughters, and her stepmother didn"t like her one little bit. #ll the nice things,kind thoughts and loving touches ere !or her on daughters. #nd not $ust the

    kind thoughts and love, but also dresses, shoes, shals, delicious !ood, com!y

    beds, as ell as every home com!ort. #ll this as laid on !or her daughters. But,

    !or the poor unhappy girl, there as nothing at all. %o dresses, only her

    stepsisters" hand&me&dons. %o lovely dishes, nothing but scraps. %o nice rests

    and com!ort. 'or she had to ork hard all day, and only hen evening came as

    she alloed to sit !or a hile by the !ire, near the cinders. (hat is ho she got

    her nickname, !or everybody called her Cinderella. Cinderella used to spend long

    hours all alone talking to the cat. (he cat said,

    )Miao), hich really meant, )Cheer up* +ou have something neither o! your

    stepsisters have and that is beauty.)

    It as uite true. Cinderella, even dressed in rags ith a dusty gray !ace !rom

    the cinders, as a lovely girl. -hile her stepsisters, no matter ho splendid and

    elegant their clothes, ere still clumsy, lumpy and ugly and alays ould be.

    One day, beauti!ul ne dresses arrived at the house. # ball as to be held at

    Court and the stepsisters ere getting ready to go to it. Cinderella, didn"t even

    dare ask, )-hat about me) !or she kne very ell hat the anser to that

    ould be:

    )+ou My dear girl, you"re staying at home to ash the dishes, scrub the !loors

    and turn don the beds !or your stepsisters. (hey ill come home tired and very

    sleepy.) Cinderella sighed at the cat.

    )Oh dear, I"m so unhappy*) and the cat murmured )Miao).

    Suddenly something ama/ing happened. In the kitchen, here Cinderella as

    sitting all by hersel!, there as a burst o! light and a !airy appeared.

    )0on"t be alarmed, Cinderella,) said the !airy. )(he ind ble me your sighs. I

    kno you ould love to go to the ball. #nd so you shall*)

    )1o can I, dressed in rags) Cinderella replied. )(he servants ill turn me

    aay*) (he !airy smiled. -ith a !lick o! her magic and... Cinderella !ound

    hersel! earing the most beauti!ul dress, the loveliest ever seen in the realm.

    )%o that e have settled the matter o! the dress,) said the !airy, )e"ll need to

    get you a coach. # real lady ould never go to a ball on !oot*)

    )2uick* 3et me a pumpkin*) she ordered.

    )Oh o! course,) said Cinderella, rushing aay. (hen the !airy turned to the cat.

    )+ou, bring me seven mice*)

    )Seven mice*) said the cat. )I didn"t kno !airies ate mice too*)

    )(hey"re not !or eating, silly* 0o as you are told*... and, remember they must be

    alive*)

    Cinderella soon returned ith a !ine pumpkin and the cat ith seven mice he

    had caught in the cellar.

    )3ood*) e4claimed the !airy. -ith a !lick o! her

    magic and... onder o! onders* (he pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach

    and the mice became si4 hite horses, hile the seventh mouse turned into a

    coachman, in a smart uni!orm and carrying a hip. Cinderella could hardly

    believe her eyes.

    )I shall present you at Court. +ou ill soon see that the 5rince, in hose honor

    the ball is being held, ill be enchanted by your loveliness. But remember* +oumust leave the ball at midnight and come home. 'or that is hen the spell ends.

    +our coach ill turn back into a pumpkin, the horses ill become mice again and

    the coachman ill turn back into a mouse... and you ill be dressed again in

    rags and earing clogs instead o! these dainty little slippers* 0o you

    understand) Cinderella smiled and said,

    )+es, I understand*)

    -hen Cinderella entered the ballroom at the palace, a hush !ell. 6veryone

    stopped in mid&sentence to admire her elegance, her beauty and grace.

    )-ho can that be) people asked each other. (he to stepsisters also ondered

    ho the necomer as, !or never in a month o! Sundays, ould they ever have

    guessed that the beauti!ul girl as really poor Cinderella ho talked to the cat*

    -hen the prince set eyes on Cinderella, he as struck by her beauty. -alking

    over to her, he boed deeply and asked her to dance. #nd to the greatdisappointment o! all the young ladies, he danced ith Cinderella all evening.

    )-ho are you, !air maiden) the 5rince kept asking her. But Cinderella only

    replied:

    )-hat does it matter ho I am* +ou ill never see me again anyay.)

    )Oh, but I shall, I"m uite certain*) he replied.

    Cinderella had a onder!ul time at the ball... But, all o! a sudden, she heard thesound o! a clock: the !irst stroke o! midnight* She remembered hat the !airy

    had said, and ithout a ord o! goodbye she slipped !rom the 5rince"s arms and

    ran don the steps. #s she ran she lost one o! her slippers, but not !or a

    moment did she dream o! stopping to pick it up* I! the last stroke o! midnight

    ere to sound... oh... hat a disaster that ould be* Out she !led and vanished

    into the night.

    (he 5rince, ho as no madly in love ith her, picked up her slipper and said

    to his ministers,

    )3o and search everyhere !or the girl hose !oot this slipper !its. I ill never

    be content until I !ind her*) So the ministers tried the slipper on the !oot o! all

    the girls... and on Cinderella"s !oot as ell... Surprise* (he slipper !itted

    per!ectly.

    )(hat a!ul untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball,) snapped the

    stepmother. )(ell the 5rince he ought to marry one o! my to daughters* Can"t

    you see ho ugly Cinderella is* Can"t you see)

    Suddenly she broke o!!, !or the !airy had appeared.

    )(hat"s enough*) she e4claimed, raising her magic and. In a !lash, Cinderella

    appeared in a splendid dress, shining ith youth and beauty. 1er stepmother

    and stepsisters gaped at her in ama/ement, and the ministers said,

    )Come ith us, !air maiden* (he 5rince aaits to present you ith his

    engagement ring*) So Cinderella $oy!ully ent ith them, and lived happily ever

    a!ter ith her 5rince. #nd as !or the cat, he $ust said )Miao)*

    Timun Emas

    Long time ago, lived an old women named Mbok Sirni. She lived by herself because her

    husband had long passed away and she had no children. Every day, she prayed so God would

    give her a child. One night, when she was praying, a giant passed her house and heard her pray.

    ! can give you a child on one condition," the giant said to Mbok Sirni, #ou must give the child

    back to me when it is si$ years old." Mbok Sirni was so happy% she did not think about the risk of

    losing the child later and agreed to take the giant&s offer. 'he giant then gave her a bunch of

    cucumber seeds. (lant it around your house." 'he giant then left without saying anything else.

    !n the morning, Mbok Sirni planted the seeds. 'he seeds grew within mere days, and blossomed

    plentifully.)ot longer after that, a big golden cucumber grew from plants. *arefully, Mbok Sirni

    plucked the golden cucumber and carried it home. +ith caution and care, she sliced the

    cucumber. She was very surprised to see a beautiful baby girl inside the cucumber. She then

    named the baby 'imun Emas it means Golden *ucumber-.

    #ears passed by and 'imun Emas has grew to become a lovely and beautiful little girl. She was

    also smart and kind. Mbok Sirni loved her very much. ut she kept thinking about the time the

    giant would take 'imun Emas away from her. One night, Mbok Sirni had a dream. !n order to

    save 'imun Emas from the giant, she had to meet the holy man who lived in Mount Gundul. 'he

    ne$t morning, Mbok Sirni took leave of 'imun Emas to go to Mount Gundul. 'he holy man then

    gave her four little bags, each one containing cucumber seeds, needles, salt, and shrimp paste.

    'imun Emas can use these to protect herself," said the holy man to Mbok Sirni.

    / few days later, the giant came to see Mbok Sirni about her promise. Mbok Sirni0 +here is

    'imun Emas1" shouted the giant. My daughter, take these bag with you. !t can save you from

    the giant. )ow, run through the back door," said Mbok Sirni. ut the giant saw 'imun Emas

    running to the woods. 'he giant was angry. Starved and enraged, he rushed toward 'imun

    Emas. Mbok Sirni tried to stop him, but the giant was unstoppable.

    'he giant was getting closer and closer, so 'imun Emas opened the first bag she got from Mbok

    Sirni. !nside the bag were cucumber seeds. She threw the seeds, and instantly they grew into

    large cucumber field. ut the giant ate them all, giving him more strength. /s the giant was

    getting close, 'imun Emas took the second bag with needles inside and spilled the content

    behind her. 'he needles turned into bamboo trees, sharp and thorny. 'he giant&s body was

    scratched and bled. /aargh, !&ll get you, 'imun Emas0" shouted the giant as he tried to get

    himself out from the bamboo field. 2e made it and still chasing 'imun Emas.

    'imun Emas then reached the third bag and spilled the salt inside. 'he ground which the salt

    touched turned into a deep sea. 'he giant almost drown and had to swim to cross the sea. /fter

    some time, he managed to get out from the water. 'imun Emas saw the giant coming, so she

    reached for the last bag. She took the shrimp paste and threw it. 'he shrimp paste became a big

    swamp of boiling mud. 'he giant was trapped in the middle of the swamp. 'he mud slowly but

    surely drowned him. 2elpless, he roared out, 2elp0 2eeeeelp30" 'hen the giant drown and

    died. 'imun Mas then immediately went home. Since then, 'imun Emas and Mbok Sirni livehappily ever after.444
