WARM BLANKETS FOR THOSE WITH COLD NOSES…

OUR FURRY FRIENDS GET MIGHTY COLD THIS TIME OF YEAR! So, our

Confirmation class is seeking your help. We are collect-ing blankets and towels to help warm up those COLD cag-es in our local animal shelters. This is your chance to clean out that linen closet and get rid of your old, your tired, your torn. The things that are no longer fit for hu-mans may be just the right thing for a cold puppy or kit-ty...please help us to help them. We will be accepting your donations on the following weekends ONLY: TODAY and NEXT Weekend...January 28 and 29 Thank you for helping us make some sad little lives a bit warmer and nicer. “God made all the creatures and gave them our love and

our fear, To give sign, we and they are His children, one

family here.” ~ Robert Browning ~

St. Vincent de Paul Collection There will be a second collection for our Society of St. Vincent de Paul on the weekend of January 28 and 29. St. Vincent de Paul is our outreach to the poor in our parish. We help our needy neighbors by providing assis-tance for food, transportation, and other household assis-tance. During the 2016 SVdP Fiscal Year running from October to September, our 28 parish volunteers made 510 home visits helping 1,710 people many of whom were children. Based upon your generous donations, we were able to provide $37,050 worth of assistance most of which was for food. Over 99.8% of the money collected went directly to the poor. We hope you will be generous once again so we can continue to help the poor. If you are interested in finding out more about SVdP and possi-bly becoming a member, contact Carl Bellone at [email protected] or call the parish office.

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Proclamation of the Gospel—#168

Kerygmatic and mystagogical catechesis

As for the moral component of catechesis, which pro-motes growth in fidelity to the Gospel way of life, it is helpful to stress again and again the attractiveness and the ideal of a life of wisdom, self-fulfilment and enrichment. In the light of that positive message, our rejection of the evils which endanger that life can be better understood. Rather than experts in dire predictions, dour judges bent on rooting out every threat and deviation, we should ap-pear as joyful messengers of challenging proposals, guardians of the goodness and beauty which shine forth in a life of fidelity to the Gospel. Fr. Terry’s Remarks— Pope Francis’ words today need to be memorized and we should begin each and eve-ry day by reliving them to our hearts. I often tell the story about how, 60 years ago when my fellow missionaries first went to the Karen people and told them that God loved them, they were overcome with joy. They had been living lives threatened constantly by capricious spirits. But then having embraced our Faith, the good Fathers began to talk to them about sin, hell, how easily God is hurt and how He can be so judgmental, so that in the end their salvation was in the balance. Faith and their Salva-tion was no longer a joyous thing but a hard slog. Peo-ples’ lives are already in most cases a hard and arduous climb. Francis reminds us that people came to Church to be helped, encouraged, empowered, enlightened, graced, not to listen to dire predictions and dour judges bent on rooting out every fault and failing. Homilists! Preachers! TELL IT AS IT IS: God created us and made us in His own image. God loves us so much He became one of us in Christ Jesus. God in Jesus made us his sons and daugh-ters and renewed our Divine inheritance. Assure people of their true inheritance and send them home full of joy and hope so that they are graced to live lives of People of God.
