Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.

Sufficient for a day is its own evil."

This verse is one that is usually at the forefront of our minds when we think about life. Life has its wonders, joys, moments of great happiness, awe, and amazement. But it also has moments that are filled with great physical and emotional pain, sorrow, grief, disappointment, suffering and even great anxiety. In the moments of joy we are grounded in the moment, but in moments of anxiety or fear we can sometimes feel out of the moment or that things will always be the way they are, even tomorrow will be miserable! What are some of the things we may be anxious about? It can range from our health, the health of loved ones, of our children becoming people of good character and finding some success in this life, or the worry of employment, school, starting a new family, etc. Jesus is not saying that we should have no concern for our future and that of others, but when we begin to become anxious and overly occupied with tomorrow then yes, we are doing damage to ourselves. Many studies have found that it is not just poor diet or smoking that causes cancer but even being overly stressed or anxious. Jesus warned us for our own health and well being and yet it is still hard at times, may be its so hard because we love so much. Yet, even if that is the case the love we have should be grounded first and even directed from Jesus. In all the things I mentioned above, those things that make us worry, do we go to God with them, do we offer them up to the Lord? I have noticed in my own life when I try to make things better on my own or go at it alone I usually do not succeed that well, but when I leave all at God’s feet, it does not matter how things turn out, they usually turn out for the better and at the same time I also become free, free of worry and stress about tomorrow. If you are having major worries or stress remember to go back to today’s Gospel reading and read through it slowly and prayerfully and know that words Jesus spoke were for you. He loves you deeply and eternally and in His care you will always be okay no matter what you may be going through. Remember, “tomorrow will take care of itself.”

God bless you,

Father John

The Stations of the Cross will be prayed on Fridays at 12:00 Noon and 7:00 p.m.

Our Lenten Parish Mission will be begin Sunday, March 19 and continue through Wednesday, March 22.

Wednesday, March 1 Masses:

Prayer Services with Ashes: 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Blessed Sacrament was not reserved in church buildings in the first centuries of the church. In those early years, of course, people met in borrowed “house churches,” gathering on the Lord’s Day for community, apostolic teaching, the breaking of the bread, and the prayers, as Acts of the Apostles tells us. Dispersed, people went their way into the workaday world until the next assem-bly. Weighing down their hearts was the absence of brothers and sisters, not only the sick, but those imprisoned for the faith. No wonder they developed a way of extending the food of the Holy Table to them. Forty years ago, every altar boy in training heard about Saint Tarcisius. He was a twelve-year-old boy at the time of intense persecution in fourth-century Rome. His community had begun to convey the consecrated bread from their Eucharist to those condemned to death or awaiting trial. Normally deacons did this, but on one occasion, it was necessary to send the boy to bear the holy mysteries to the prison. The legend says that he was an athlete, and was detained on the way by some play-mates who wanted him to join in their game. When he refused, they demanded to know what he was carrying. The situation went from bad to worse, and he was badly beaten and died of his injuries. A hundred years later, a pope called him a second St. Stephen. In the nineteenth century, Cardinal Nicholas Wise-man of England wrote a novel in which he expanded the story and popularized it. By then, no one seemed to notice that this twelve-year-old was actually touching and ministering the Eucharist, unthinkable until recently. Scholars say the story rings true: the first reason for setting some Eucharistic bread aside was not adoration, but Communion of the sick.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (material wealth).” MATTHEW 6:24

For many people, God and money run “neck and neck” as their first priority. Making money and spending money becomes the center of their life and they actually become a slave to money. The solution –live Stewardship by becoming more generous. Giving money to Church and charity frees us from slavery to money and from making money a “god” before God

Your generosity to your parish is appreciated!
