DEAR PARISHIONERS:

Welcome to the 4th Sunday & 4th week of Lent. This is “Laetere Sunday,” which means “rejoicing.” We are over halfway through our season of reform & renewal. The time to prepare for Easter is quickly going by. Let us resolve to continue to change for the better. Let us pledge our hearts & souls to be more prayerful as we approach Holy Week. As we celebrate Laetere Sunday, our gospel gives us the miracle of the blind man be-ing cured by Jesus. The man cannot see physically. He calls out to Jesus to help him see. Jesus is moved, & stops to see the blind man. Jesus does cure him, but notes that the faith of the man born blind is what heals him. Jesus is saying that the man had the faith it took to believe that Jesus could heal him. In other words, the blind man was not blind spiritually. He could see in his soul that Jesus was the Son of God. The man believed that Jesus was the promised Savior. And that is what led him to be healed by Jesus, the mira-cle-worker. The man saw light for the first time. His body was awakened, both physically & spiritually, to the power of God. As we journey in Lent, we are called to emerge from darkness into light. Our sins keep us living in the dark-ness, being unable to see the correct way to live. Our sins blind us to the goodness of God. Lent is a time to get brighter in our faith. Through prayer, fasting, almsgiving, & charitable works, we emerge from the darkness that surrounds us. We can see more clearly. Let us work this week on being more enlightened in our faith so that we can shine forth with the love & joy of the Lord! YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. Congratulations to our HFCS 8th grade girls’ vol-leyball team on a tremendous season, losing only one match, that being in the Sectional game on March 13th. We are so proud of the team, as well as their coaches. Thanks to all on the team for your sportsmanship, talent, & dedica-tion. BRAVO!!! P.P.S. Don’t forget to vote on April 4th! This is an im-portant time for our city, both as to mayor, our city council, the public school board, as well as other local races. Let your voice & vote be heard. What is decided will impact all of us right where we live. P.P.P.S. Good luck to the Mt. Zion 8th Grade Girls’ Volleyball Team who played for the 4A State Title this past Tuesday eve-ning. (Bulletin deadline was earlier that same day.) We are very proud of the players & coaches!
