Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 155
Reading 1 1 Kgs 17:10-16
In those days, Elijah the prophet went to Zarephath.
As he arrived at the entrance of the city, a widow was
gathering sticks there; he called out to her, …
Reading 2 Heb 9:24-28
Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a
copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might
now appear before God on our behalf.
Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high
priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that
is not his own;…
Gospel Mk 12:38-44
In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds,
"Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long
robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of
honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets
They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext
recite lengthy prayers.
They will receive a very severe condemnation."…

Understanding the Bible 2/3
1. The Bible isn't a book. It's a library. The Bible is a
collection of 73 books written over the course of many
centuries. The books include royal history, prophecy,
poetry, challenging letters to struggling new faith
communities, and believers' accounts of the preaching
and passion of Jesus.
2. Know what the Bible is – and what it isn't. The
Bible is the story of God's relationship with the
people he has called to himself. It is not intended
to be read as history text, science, or politics.
3. The sum is greater than the parts. Read the
Bible in context. What happens before and after –
even in other books – helps us to understand the
true meaning of the text.

Should Catholics celebrate Halloween? “Halloween” comes from “All Hallows Eve” That refers to the night before All Hallows days, also known as All Saints Day. As Catholics, we believe in the reality of evil, before going to Halloween celebrations, why not recite the prayer to St Michael the Archangel? Halloween is a Cristian celebration that’s over 1,000 years old. All Hallows Eve and Saint Day been celebrated since the early 8th century. When they were first instituted by Pope Gregory III in Rome. Making Your decision, if you choose to celebrate Halloween, remember its Cristian origins. The vigil to All Saint Days!

Parish Hall Chairs
Our chairs are old, and some are broken, and we don’t want to take any chances with the safety of our people. Therefore, we ask your support in buying new chairs for Fr. Boyd Hall. A chair costs $25. We purchased 200 chairs. St Mary’s has agreed to cover a good percentage of the cost. We welcome you to do as much as you can with this parish need.
