Introducing Inter-diocesan Partnership with Kitui, Kenya

Dear Parishioners, Our archdiocese is blessed to be in a partnership with Kitui, Kenya. You have heard us praying for them during our Mass. Here is a li le introduc on.

In response to the U.S. Bishops’ A Call to Soli-darity with Africa, the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis entered into a Solidarity Partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Kenya, in 2004. Kitui is located in a semi-arid area in the eastern province of Kenya 100 miles east of Nairobi, with a population of about one million people, including over 240,000 bap-tized Catholics and approximately 430 mission churches. The goals of the partnership are Building Relationships, Sharing Resources and Strengthening Faith.

Many relationships are built through delegation visits from both Minnesota to Kitui and as well as Kitui to Minnesota. Over the years, there have been nine such delegation exchanges, which provide opportunities to experience each other’s culture, witness each other’s hardships, and celebrate each other’s joys. The most re-cent was this past June, during which our archbishop was represented by Vicar General Fr. Charles Lachowitzer. Regarding sharing resources, the two dioceses have planned and worked together to address the desper-ate need in Kitui to preserve scarce rainwater. The peo-ple of Kitui provided manpower and know-how to con-struct five immense earthen dams and to erect seventy-five 10,000-liter water tanks to capture the rainwater when it comes, while our archdiocese provided financial assistance through parishes’ and Catholic schools’ partic-ipation in an Easter “Living Water” catechetical program and archdiocesan farmers’ “Growing Projects.” Both sides accompany and strengthen one anoth-er in our respective faith journeys through an ongoing exchange of prayers with specific shared intentions. Both sides pray for one another, recognizing our mutual dependence on God’s love. To learn more about the Kitui Partnership, google and/or YouTube “Kitui and St. Paul/Minneapolis Diocesan Partnership” OR visit the Kitui Diocesan webpage: www.dioceseofkitui.org Check out the web site and you will no ce that Catholics in Kitui are praying for us as we pray for them! There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal. 3:28 Fr. Gregory

Our faith formation program is looking for volun-teers in two areas--- 1. We would like to find a few people that could help our young people learn how to make rosaries, learn how to knit , or any other skill that could be taught. Your role would be sharing your skill to get them started and then possibly following up with them if they need more help with the project. 2. We need two more small group discussion leaders. One is needed in the middle school Edge program and the second person is needed in the confirmation prep pro-gram for grades 9 & 10. Contact Julie Kleindl to help out.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Saturday: 4:15-4:45 pm

Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance One of the most remarkable things about our Faith is

that by God’s grace, we have become his adopted sons and daughters. In your day-to-day life, what does it mean to be a son or daughter of God—an heir to his

promises and blessings? When you sit in the pews each Sunday, what does it mean to you to be part of his fam-

ily, the Church? To help you uncover this meaning, Ascension will begin

“Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance” on Sunday, September 24 at 6:00 p.m. or Monday, September 25 at 9:00 a.m.

For more information, contact Chris George at 952-467-3138 or email: [email protected].

You will not only discover your unique gifts and calling as a member of Christ’s Church;

you will also help us to grow in fellowship as a parish as we grow closer to Christ together.
