First Reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24
God will restore the kingdom of Judah, as symbolized
by the cedar. The deed is emphasized by the words,
“As I, the Lord have spoken, so will I do.”
Second Reading: II Corinthians 5:6-10
Paul acknowledges “that we are, in a sense, away from
the Lord while in this life and bound to our bodies.”
We will be fully united with God in the next life, if we
please him in this life.
Gospel: Mark 4:26-34
The reign of God is compared to a mustard seed which
is the smallest of seeds yet grows to become the larg-
est of shrubs. Similarly, God’s community grows
gradually until it becomes large and strong.

A Prayer for Employment
God, our Father, I turn to you seeking your divine help
and guidance as I look for suitable employment. I
need your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the
right path, and to lead me to find the proper things to
say and do in this quest. I wish to use the gifts and
talents you have given me, but I need the opportunity
to do so with gainful employment. Do not abandon
me, dear Father, in this search, but rather grant me this
favor I seek so that I may return to you with praise and
thanksgiving for your gracious assistance. Grant this
through Christ, Our Lord.
