PRECIOUS BLOOD
On this solemnity we focus our attention on the
Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story
of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses
sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the
altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus,
whose blood is the blood of the new covenant,
shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us
from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood
is the life source that courses through our bodies.
The precious blood of Christ is the life source for
our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer
a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose
Body and Blood strengthen us to bring the Good
News to everyone we meet. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Parishioners, Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, which is
more familiar to many as Corpus Christi.
The purpose of the Solemnity is to express our thanks and adoration for the sacramental presence
of Christ who is food for our journey on the pilgrimage of life.
Over the last several years, many people have become very casual about this sacrament. We see it
in the way some come dressed for mass in the summertime. Some, too, can miss mass consistently for
periods of time without serious reason and will receive the Holy Communion without receiving absolution
in the sacrament of Reconciliation. Let’s pray that today’s observance will help us return to a greater
respect and love of this sacrament.
On Friday of this week, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As you know, June is the month traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart.
Bishop DiMarzio has invited all the priests of the diocese to join him in Immaculate Conception
Center to be renewed in our call to holiness and to make reparation for the sins of our brother priests and
deacons, especially the sexual abuse of minors.
The Bishop is responding to St. John Paul II’s establishing the Feast of the Sacred Heart as a World
Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. It is fitting that not only we priests pray for our own growth
in holiness but, also, that our people join us in praying for this intention.
My brother priests here at OLA join me in thanking you for your ongoing prayers for us.
We are investigating having a tent for the picnic so there will be more shade. The two vigil masses
will be combined on that day (June 16th) and will be concelebrated at 6:00pm. Dessert will follow for everybody.
Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
