SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 28, 2017 PG. 3
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
There could not have been a more perfect day for the Parish Feast last Sunday. All said and done, the Parish
Appreciation Feast was a big success. I wish I were able to show you some pictures of people who flocked to the
church grounds to celebrate the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. I trust there must have been about 400 people.
We made an attempt to get a head count of the adults by requiring them to get a name tag as they entered the premises.
But for some reason we did not succeed. Some did not care to get one, others did not wear the tag all the time, and
some just did not display it well. The idea behind it was multiple; to help to get to know the names of some parishion-
ers and to initiate some friendly acquaintance.
A couple of times, I was able to address those gathered and to express my sentiments and thoughts on the
occasion. The highlight of the day was the entrance procession with about twenty of our First Communicants offering
flowers to the Blessed Mother and garlanding her. The children’s choir accompanied them with some beautiful Marian
hymns. A big thank you to all of you. As always you did a very good job.
The cooking crew supplied warm and delicious hamburgers and hot dogs to all while other foods and pizza
were catered and the deserts were purchased by our Hospitality committee. A big thank you goes to all those who were
kind enough to let us taste some of their national dishes. A couple of them even came with some deserts and cookies
and chocolates. I appreciate your good will very much.
For me personally, it was a great opportunity to get to know you and exchange a few ideas and words with you.
I met some who were your visiting friends and family. It was a pleasure to meet them. While I was going around, I
noticed that children enjoyed the most the Module Bounce ride and the Backyard Castle and, to say the least the
magician. They were mesmerized by his tricks and watched him with laughter and applause.
A number of you expressed your appreciation for this get-together, food and company. I am happy that you
were able to come to the feast and spend some meaningful time with the fellow parishioners and neighbors. I also
know that some of you could not make it due to unavoidable circumstances. I appreciate your letting me know about it.
We missed you. I hope all who volunteered in various activities of the church during the year did pick up the small
appreciation gift we prepared for you: pen and finger rosary key tag. We had 100 of them. Again, we tried to keep
record of who took a gift and must say to a great extent this was successful. But I know that all were gone before the
end the day!
I must say a word of thanks to the teen group who helped the adults with the set up and the cleaning up, to all
donors of gift baskets, beverages, uncooked and cooked food- the international food - all our businesses in Tottenville
who helped with gift certificates, etc., and to the DJ who entertained us throughout and to supplier of tents and tables,
etc., for the discount we received. My hearty thanks go to all who gave cash donations to defray some of the expenses.
There are some of you who helped with the sale of 50/50 raffle tickets, gift basket tickets and those who
manned the welcoming table. To all above mentioned and to the Parish Feast Committee along with the OLHC Hospi-
tality Committee in organizing and ordering and purchasing all the needed supplies and food etc., my thanks go to all of
them. Thanks to the fire truck for making our children get a firsthand experience of it. Thanks to all for your
presence and showing your solidarity and support of this annual parish event.
Our next Parish Pastoral Council will meet Monday, June 5 at 7:15PM in the lower church which is also the last
one for this year. We shall do an evaluation of the Parish Volunteer Appreciation feast and among other things, an
important matter will be presented by the Parish Financial Committee. We need parishioners with expertise in
construction, engineering, architecture, planning and financing, etc., whose advice will be very useful to us for stability
and good standing of the Parish. Hence, you are cordially invited to attend this PPC meeting or if the time is not suit-
able, to communicate with me directly.
I have cleaned up the space behind the altar in the church and locked up the shed by the school where we store
the old manger. May I ask all those who use these spaces to keep them as orderly and clean as possible. If you had
stored anything in these areas that belonged to any organization or person, please let me know so that we can address
them immediately. May God Bless you, Fr. Frank
