CHURCH DISCIPLINE AND RESTORATION
PAGTUTUWID AT PANUNUMBALIK
IN PHILIPPINE ABCCOP
CONTEXT
ABCCOP Theological Commission 2
PANIMULA:
Mas
malalaki ang mga simabahan ngayon, at kung
minsan hindi magkakakilala ang mga taong
dumadalo. Nakakaapekto ito sa pagiging
epektibo ng disiplina at lalo na ang
pampublikong pagpapahayag ng kasalanan.
Tingnan natin sa Bibliya maging sa ating
kultura kung ano ang pinakamahusay na
gawain upang mapanatili ang kabanalan at
pagmamahalan sa ating mga iglesya.
INTRODUCTION:
God chose us out of darkness. It is God who
makes a covenant with man through
us.Because people have different problems at
different times in different occasions and
situations, we must stay alert in discerning what
God asks us to do.Discipline in Paul's time
involves issues regarding prostitution and food
offered to idols. It was not clear to the
Corinthians that they must stay out of
prostitution. In the 2nd and 3rd centuries
Chrisitians weren't allowed to join games and
plays. Beginning 16th century, many of the
Christians were forbidden from going to
theatres and cinemas. Discipline also depends
on the culture. In Europe, alcohol and cigarette
smoking weren't issues in the church, but
shopping wasn't allowed during Sunday. For
us, it's the opposite.
Churches at present are different from
Churches during Bible times. Churches are
bigger nowadays and at times, people
attending don't even know each other. This
affects effectiveness of discipline and public
confession even more.
Let us lookinto the Bible and into our culture to
see what is best done to maintain holiness and
love in our churches.

Pagsusuri ng Ating Karanasan sa Church
Discipline
Karamihan sa mga iglesia, ang katotohanan ay
mas pinapahalagahan kaysa sa pag-ibig
pagdating sa pagdidisiplina. Tingnan natin sa
Juan 1:14 kung saan puno ng katotohanan
pero puno din ng kabaitan. Sa katotohanan,
mas nakakahikayat na ipatupad ang mas
mahigpit na mga patakaran ng disiplina. Sa
kahuli-hulihan ito nga ay humahantong sa
kahihiyan ng kapatid na nagkasala.
Ang diin ng ating kultura sa pagsasama-sama
ay isang magandang paalala para sa atin. Hindi
bat ito rin ang sinsabi ng Bibliya? Sinabi ni
Jesus: Ako angKatotohanan (Juan 14:6).
Ang katotohanan ay tao. Ito ay personal at may
pakikipag-ugnayan. Maging kay Pablo, ganito
rin ang kaniyang pagtingin sa katotohanan.
Siya ay nagtakda ng mga alituntuning moral
(Mga Taga-Galacia 5:19-26) na hindi hiwalay
sa pagsasama-sama. Ang mga gawa ng laman
(kasalanan) (5:19-21) ay masama dahil ito ay
mga gawa na nakakasira sa pagsasama-sama
ng mga mananampalataya. Ang bunga ng
Espiritu (5:22-23) ay nakakapagpapatibay ng
kristiyanong pagsasama-sama.
Upang maging Biblikal at Pilipino ang ating
Disiplina sa Iglesya, kailangang nagmumula
talaga sa diwang-katutubo ang pagbubulay
tungkol dito. Ito ang tunay na ebanghelikong
Pagtutuwid para sa ating mga iglesya: biblikal,
pero nakaugat sa sarili nating kultura. Upang
pamumuhay-ebangheliko. Gusto natin ipakita
ang positibong kaugaliang Filipino na may
kaugnayan sa pagtutuwid. Pagkatapos, ito ay
ipapasailalim natin sa panunuri ng Biblia.
Analysis of our Experiences in Church
Discipline
In the case of discipline, truth is more important
than love in most Churches. Let's look at John
1:14 which is full of truth but is also full of
kindness. In truth, it is more presumable to
implement stricter policies of discipline. This
eventually leads to shaming a brother or sister
who has sinned.
The emphasis of our culture towards fellowship
is a beautiful admonition for us. Isn't this what
the Bible also says? Jesus said: I am... the
Truth (John 14:6). Truth is primarily a person. It
is personal and thus, relational. Even with Paul,
this is also how truth is viewed. He assigned
moral rules (Galatians 5:19-26) that were not
separate from fellowship. The deeds of the flesh
(sin) (5:19-21) are evil because these are
deeds that destroy the fellowship of believers.
The Fruit of the Spirit (5:22-23) strengthen
Christian fellowship.
In order to make Church Discipline Biblical and
Filipino, it is imperative that meditation on it be
indigenous. This is the true evangelistic Church
Discipline for our churches: biblical, but is also
rooted in our culture. For this to occur, we must
ride the values of our culture- what Miranda
calls "buting Pinoy"- and we must enrich this
through evangelical living. We want to show
positive Filipino values that are related to
discipline. Subsequently we submit this to
Biblical analysis.

I. Ang Sambahayan ng Diyos bilang
Konteksto ng Pagtutuwid
A. Ang pamilya bilang pangunahing
simulain
Likas sa mga Pilipino ang pagtutuon sa
pamilya. Itinuturing ito na pinakamataas na
antas sa kulturang Filipino,
pinakamahalagang sangkap sa pag-unlad ng
katauhang Filipino at maging sa kanyang pag-
uugali sa kanyang pagtanda, at maging sa
pinaka-mahusay sa lahat ng aktibidad
panlipunan, pang-kultura at pang-ekonomiya.
(ATChurch: 1986)1
Hindi maaaring isantabi ang impluwensya ng
pamilya sa pag-aaral ng Disiplina ng Iglesia.
Kailangang ito ay kilalanin at pagyamanin.
Hindi lamang sa disiplina, pati sa panumbalik
(restoration).
bilang pamilya (hal. Marcos 3:34-35; Mga
Taga-Galacia 6:10).2 Hindi ito basta
paglalarawan lamang: nagtipon sila sa kanilang
mga bahay at ibinahagi ang kani-kanilang
buhay sa isat isa.3
Para kay Pablo, ang pananampalataya ay di
lamang personal na pagbabagong-loob. Ang
mabuhay kay Kristo ay pamumuhay kapiling ng
sambayanang Kristiyano.
Kung ang iglesya ay kinikilalang pamilya ng
Diyos at maka-pamilya rin ang ating kultura,
kailangan nating pag-isipan kung
nagagampanan ba talaga nating mga iglesya
ang ganitong tungkulin? Aling tungkulin? Ang
tungkulin sa pagkakaisa at pamamagitan sa
diwa ng pagmamalasakit at pagdamay bilang
magkakapatid sa sambayanan ng
mananampalataya.
I. The Household of God as the Context of
Church Discipline
A. The family as the starting point
Filipinos are family-oriented. This is considered
the "highest value in Filipino culture," "the most
important ingredient in the progress of the
Filipino persona and even in his/her personality
when he/she grows old" and even in "the best
of all social acitivites for the culture and for the
economy." (ATChurch: 1986)
One cannot set aside the influence of the family
in studying Church Discipline. This must be
recognized and enriched, not only for discipline
but also for restoration.
B. The church as God's household
In the New Testament the church was also
introduced as family (ex. Mark 3:34-35:
Galatians 6:10). This is not only for illustration:
they gathered in their houses and they shared
their lives with each other.
For Paul, faith is not only a personal
conversion. To live in Christ is to live in the
presence of the Christian community.
Since the church is considered the family of
God and since Filipinos are family oriented, we
need to think if the church fulfills this role.
Which role? The role to unite as brothers and
sisters in the household of believers through
the spirit of caring and sympathizing.
1 Church A. Timothy, Filipino Personality: A review of
Research and Writings (Manila: DLSU Press, 1986).
2Mark 3: 34-35 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, Here are my mother and my brothers! 35. Whoever does Gods will is my brother and sister and mother.
Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with Gods people and also members of his household,
3Acts 2:45-46 Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need. With one accordthey continued to meetdailyinthetemple courtsandto breakbreadfromhouse to house, sharingtheir mealswithgladnessandsincerityof heart,
1 Corinthians 12:25-26 Gods purpose was that the body should not be divided but rather that all of its parts should feel the same concern for each other. If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts share its suffering. If one part is praised, all the others share in its happiness.

C. Pagtutuwid sa sambahayan ng Diyos
Sa bahaging ito, magandang pag-aralan ang
mga salitang Filipino na may kaugnayan sa
ating paksa. Kaayusan at pagsunod ang
napapaloob sa kahulugan ng disiplina.
(Halimbawang pangungusap: Ang disiplina ay
kailangan sa isang tahanan.) (Tagalog-English
Dictionary,1986) Tinutukoy din nito ang mga
sumusunod na kahulugan: tamangasal
(orderly conduct), pagsupil (control) at
pagsasanay (training) (JVP English Filipino
Thesaurus-Dictionary, 1988). Sa pag-aaral na
ito, itinuturing nating magkasingkahulugan
ang disiplina at pagtututwid (act of correcting
an error or mistake). (Vicassans Tagalog-
English Dictionary, 1978). Higit nating
gagamitin ang salitang pagtutuwid kaysa
disiplina.
Mabuti din pag-usapan natin ang kaibahan ng
disiplina sa parusa. Bagamat may kaugnayan
ang dalawa, hindi natin sila maaaring pag-
isahin. Sapagkat pag sinabing kaparusahan (to
punish), nakapaloob dito ang kahulugang lubos
na pagpapahirap (to torture or to make one
suffer greatly) o kayay pagmultahin (to fine or
pay a penalty).
Maaaring
asahan ang pagbabalik-loob niya, Kaya din
nating disiplinahin ang sarili; Magpakita ng
sariling pagdidisiplina. Ang pagpaparusa ay di
gayon; maaaring ilapat ito bilang pagganti o
paghatol sa nagkakasala na walang
inaasahang pagbabalik-loob.
Maganda ang katutubong salin ng disiplina sa
Magandang Balita Bibliapagtutuwid (Hebreo
12:5-11). Hango rin ito sa karanasang
pampamilya (Hebreo 12:5).4 Malinaw ring
ipinararating ng pagtutuwid ang kaibahan nito
sa kaisipan ng pagparusa. Ang pagtutuwid ay
bunga ng pagmamahal. Panunumbalik at
kapahamakan (Mga Taga-Galacia 6:1-2).
C. Discipline in God's household
In this section it is good to study the Filipino
4Hebrews 12:5b-6 My son, do not make light of the Lords
discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,6 because the
words that are related to our topic. Order and
compliance are in the definition of discipline.
Sample sentence: Discipline is needed in the
household. (Tagalog-English Dictionary, 1986).
This also points to several definitions: orderly
conduct, control and training (JVP English
Filipino Thesaurus-Dictionary, 1988). In this
study, we consider disciplining and correcting
of the same definition. (Vicassan's Tagalog-
English Dictionary, 1978). We will use the word
pagtutuwid more often than disiplina.
It is also good to speak of the difference of
discipline and punishment. Although both are
related with each other, we cannot combine the
two. This is because when you say to punish,
it means to torture, to make one suffer greatly
or to impose a fine or pay a penalty.
Disciplining and correcting are more positive
than punishment. Its purpose is to return the
sinner to the straight path and one can expect
his/her restoration. We can also discipline
ourselves; to show personal discipline.
Punishment isn't the same it can be imposed
as revenge or judgment to the one who sinned
without the expectation of restoration.
The translation given by the Magandang Balita
Biblia for discipline is "pagtutuwid". (Hebrews
12:5-11) This comes from family experiences
(Hebrew 12:5). The difference between the
idea of discipline and the idea of punishment is
clear: discipline is a fruit of love. Its goal is to
bring someone farther away from danger.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.

5Ang Kasulatan ay maaring gamitin para sa
pagtutuwid sa makasalanang gawain, at pag-
akay sa matuwid na pamumuhay (2 Timoteo
3:16-17). Mahalaga rin na maging mahinahon
sa pagtutuwid (Tito 3:1-2).6
II. Pagtutuwid bilang tungkuling Kristiyano
Mahalaga sa Biblia ang pakikipagkapwa
(basahin ang Mateo 25:34-40). Hindi ito
nagbubulagbulagan sa mga hidwaan at
pagkakasala. Matuwid ito at mapanimbang na
pagharap sa Diyos at sa kapwa (Mateo 22:37-
pagkakasundo (Filipos 4:2-3). Gayundin, ang
mamagitan at magtuwid sa mahinahong
pamamaraan (Mateo 18:15-20; Mga Taga-
Galacia 6:1; Efeso 4:15-16; Tito 3:2; 1 Pedro
3:15-16). Ang mga ito ang nagbibigay kulay sa
pakikipagkapwa ng iglesya sa buhay natin
bilang magkakapatid sa Panginoon.
4 na klase ng pagkakasala
1. Laban sa pagmamahalan ng
magkakapatid kay Cristo (Mateo 5:23-
24).
2. Laban sa pagkakaisa (dahilan sa
pagkawala ang pagkakaisa at
kapayapaan sa iglesia (Rom 16:17, Tito
3:10)
3. Laban sa kautusan. Kasama din dito
ang mga marangal na mga alituntunin
na nakikita natin sa Biblia.
4. Laban sa katotohanan (pagtaliwas sa
mga pangunahing doktrina) (1 Tim. 6:3-
5, 2, John 7-10)7
The scriptures can be used for the correction of
sinful behavior, and as a guide to living a
Christian life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) It is important
to be gentle when correcting. (Titus 3:1-2)
II. Church discipline as a Christian
responsibility
It is stated in the Bible that fellowship is
important (read Matthew 25:34-40). It turns no
blind eye for sin and dispute. Fellowship is the
correct and discerning way of facing God and
fellow men. (Matthew 22:37-40). Like Jesus,
fellowship is not just filled with love, it is also
filled with honesty (or truth) (John 1:14). Part of
growing in Christ is having the courage to
correct your brothers and sisters in the spirit of
love. (Ephesians 4:15)
It is our duty as members of God's family (2
Corinthians 5:17), to spread and embody
harmony (Philippians 4:2-3), as well as,
mediate and correct in a gentle manner.
(Matthew 18:15-20; Galatians 6:1; Ephesians
4:15-16; Titus 3:2; 1 Peter 3:15-16). These are
what give color to the fellowship of the church
in our life as brothers and sisters in Christ.
4 Kinds of Sin
1. Against love between brothers and
sisters in Christ(Mathew 5:23-24).
2. Against harmony (which results in the
loss of unity and peace in the church
(Romans 16:17, Titus 3:10].
3. Against the commandments. This
includes the ethical guidelines found in
the Bible.
4. Against truth (the rejection of the basics
of the important doctrines, heresy) (1
Timothy 6:3-5, 2, John 7-10)
A. Pamamagitan bilang bahagi ng
pagtutuwid
5Galatians 6:1-2Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught
in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each others burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.
62 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a]may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Maaring ituring na magkaugnay ang
pagtutuwid at pamamagitan. Ang pakikialam ay
Titus 3:1-2 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and
authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

isang lehitimong katangian sa buhay ng
magkaka-sambahay at magkakaibigan. Ang
interes ng pagtutuwid at pamamagitan ay
masasabing nating pareho : upang makatulong
sa pagsasaayos ng buhay. (Tagalog - English
Dictionary, 1968). Ngunit sa kabila ng
pagkakatulad, may pagkakaiba rin ang dalawa.
Halimbawa, sakop ng pamamagitan ang diwa
ng pagtayo sa gitna. Ito ay upang matiyak ang
katotohanan at maabot ang inaasahang
kaayusan. Sa pagtutuwid naman, tiyak na na
may mali na dapat harapin at itama.
May pagsang-ayon ang Biblia sa gawain ng
pamamagitan. Isang halimbawa ang sulat ni
Pablo kay Felimon. Namagitan si Pablo upang
mapagkasundo sina Felimon at Onesimo. Hindi
siya natakot gamitin ang kanyang impluwensya
upang maayos ang di pagkakaunawaan ng
dalawa (Filemon 15-21).
A. Mediation as part of church discipline
It is possible to interpret correction and
mediation as related to each other. Intervention
is a legitimate characteristic in the lives of
family and friends. The interest of correction
and mediation is the same: it is to aid "fixing"
life. Despite the similarities, correction and
mediation also have differences. For example,
mediation can be interpreted as standing in the
middle. It is to ensure truthfulness in order to
settle dispute. Correction, on the other hand, is
in the context that there is something inherently
wrong that must be faced and corrected.
The Bible approves of the act of mediation. One
example can be found in the writings of Paul to
Philemon. Paul stood as the mediator between
Philemon and Onesimus. He was not afraid to
use his influence in order to fix the
misunderstanding between the two. (Philemon
15-21). He was also the one to request for
Euodia and Syntyche to settle their disputes.
He asked the leaders of church in Philippi to
help them reach agreement. (Philippians 4:2-3)
B. Church discipline according to Matthew
18:15-20 and 1 Corinthians 5:1-5
The context in these chapters is important in
our reading. Matthew 18:15-20 is in the middle
of 18:1-15 where the servants ask who among
them was the greatest, and18:21ff where the
servants ask how many times should one
forgive.
Mateo 18:15-20 Una, sa pagkakaayos ni
Mateo ng kapitulo 18, kaagad mapapansin
natin ang kahalagahan ng pang-unawa at
malasakit sa nagkakasala. Ito ay nagsisimula
sa aral tungkol sa pagpapakumbaba (1-4),
sinundan ng pag-iingat na huwag maging sanhi
ng pagkakasala (5-10) at pagkatapos ay ang
talinghaga ng nawawalang tupa (12-14). Sa
Lucas 15:6-7 ginamit ang talinghagang ito
bilang pagtukoy sa isang makasalanang
ABCCOP Theological Commission 8
nagbabalik-loob sa Diyos. Magkakaroon ng
pagdiriwang sa langit dahil sa pagsisisi ng
isang makasalanan.
ayaw magpatawad. Kung maaaring matiwalag
ang isang nagkasalang ayaw magbalik-loob
(17), gayundin ang maaaring mangyari sa
isang ayaw magpatawad.
Malinaw ang layunin ng pagtutuwid: ang
pagpapanumbalik sa dati at magbalik-loob sa
Diyos ang may sala (15). May itinatakdang mga
hakbang upang matamo ang hinahangad na
pagbabalik-loob:
1. Pakikipagusap sa nagkasala (15).
2. Pagsasama ng dalawa o tatlong saksi
(16).
3. Ipaalam ito sa kapatiran (17).
4. Maaaring itiwalag ang ayaw magbalik-
loob (17).
Kapasin-pansin ang pagdami ng mga taong
makikisangkot sa pagmamalasakit sa kapatid
na nagkasala, kung hindi pa siya makikinig.
Matthews 18:15-20 - First, in the arrangement
of chapter 18, we can immediately notice the
importance of understanding and concern for
people who sin. This starts in the lesson of
humility (1-4), followed by being careful about
being the cause of sin (5-10) and finally the
parable of the missing lamb (12-14). In Luke
15:6-7, this parable was used to define a sinful
man returning to God. There would be
celebration in Heaven because of a sinner's
repentance. For Matthew, the context is in the
life in the church. We owe our safety to God.
He looked for us like a shepherd would for his
lost sheep. He found us with his love. Likewise,
we must do the same for our brothers and
sisters in Christ. In this way, we are able to live
out what the writer intends to impart in 15-20.
The spirit of discipline isn't prosecution. In order
to avoid the embarassment of the sinner,
conversation must be done in private.
Discipline is a result of one's care for his
brothers and sisters. This was also the lesson
in the following verses (21-35) which told the
parable of the one who refused to forgive. If the
sinner who doesn't want to repent can be
excommunicated (17), the same goes for the
person who refuses to forgive.
The purpose of discipline is clear. It is to help
make a sinner return to God and his ways (15).
These are the steps set in order to achieve that:
1. Conversation with the sinner (15).
2. Inclusion of two or three witnesses (16).
3. Disclosure to the brethren (17).
4. Dismissal of those who don't want to
return to God (17).
It is noticeable how more people get involved if
the sinner is not yet listening.
Bakit kailangang may dalawa o tatlong saksi?
may sala. Kaya ang susunod na hakbang ay
ABCCOP Theological Commission 9
iglesia. Nakasalalay sa buong kapatiran ang
kapangyarihang magbawal at magpahintulot
(18).
Muling tatayo ang mga saksi upang
patunayang ginanap ng iglesya ang kanyang
bahagi kahit na nagmamatigas pa rin ang
nagkasala.
Dapat
banal at malinis ang iglesia.
Why should there be two or three witnesses?
The conversation becomes heavier in hope that
the sinner better realizes his own sins.
According to chapter 16, these witnesses
would verify everything that was talked about
between the sinner and the discipliner. They
would oversee whether or not the discipliner is
following his duty so that the sinner would not
be able to make excuses to the church. They
are there to make sure that everything that
could be done was done, that's why the next
step is to inform the brothers and sisters
(17,19,20). It is important to speak to the
congregation enough for them to understand
how serious the matter is so that they may pray
over the sinner. However, the information must
not be too much that it may hinder the sinner's
repentance. The power to forbid and permit
rests on the entire brotherhood and sisterhood
(18).
The witnesses shall once again stand in order
to ensure that the church did its part even if the
sinner refuses to listen. The sinner himself,
therefore, is turning away from the church. We
must understand how one should treat a
Gentile. We share the Good News with him,
and that doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk to
the Gentile. Discipline only applies to those
within the church only, and the Gentile no
longer within it (1 Corinthians 5:12). Though it
hurts the church, if dismissal would help the
sinner to repent, it should be done as a last
resort (17). It should be observed that the
sinners repentance is the primary
consideration in the entire process of
disciplineand restoration.
1 Corinthians 5:1-5
The context here is that Paul despises people
from Corinth due to their boastfulness. He was
planning to visit but was unsure if he should
show anger or compassion. The text describes
the yeast effect in the church. The church must
be holy and pure.

Ngunit
May
May
(Roma 8:5-8; Mga Taga-Galacia5:19-21) at
pangalawa, upang maligtas ang kanyang
espiritu. (kung ibabatay sa teolohiya ni Pablo,
mas angkop na salin ang laman kaysa
katawan para sa unang bahagi ng talata 5).
Napapatay ang laman sa pamamagitan ng
pagbabalik-loob at pagtitiwala kay Kristo
(Roma 8:13; Colosas 3:5). Sapagkat
nagmamatigas ang may sala, hahayaan siyang
mamuhay sa pagkakasala, sa ilalim ng
kapangyarihan ng kaaway, upang maranasan
ang pait ng ganitong buhay (Roma 1:24,26,28).
In this text, Paul faces the arrogant nature of
the people of Corinth. They should not boast
about their presumed greater wealth, freedom
and spiritual gifts. (4:6, 18-19; 8:1; 13:4).When
Paul mentioned the immorality of one member
of the church, he assumed that this was the
result of the pride of the people of Corinth (5:2)
While they were gloating about their greater
spirituality, Paul reprimanded them that they
should be ashamed, mourn, and dismiss the
sinner (2). He gave a suitable judgement that
whoever has sinned shall be given to Satan in
the name of Jesus Christ (3, 5). This judgement
wasn't Paul's. Paul embodied the entire church
guided by the one God. (12:13)
So what did Paul mean in verse 5? "deliver this
man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so
that his spirit may be saved in the day of the
Lord". The New International Version has an
alternative translation: to destroy his being and
to save his spirit. In the second translation,
one's being is equivalent to his flesh - a
theological idea from Paul.
He is given to Satan not to bring him to
destruction. This judgement includes the good
news. Its purpose is to: first, to destroy his
being - his living in the flesh (Romans 8:5-8;
Galatians 5:19-21) and second, to save his
spirit. (Based on Paul's theology, it's more
appropriate to use the translation of flesh rather
than body in the first part of verse 5). The flesh
is destroyed by returning to and trusting Christ.
(Romans 8:13; Colossians 3:5) The sinner shall
continue to live in his sinful ways in order for
him to experience the harshness of this
lifestyle. (Romans 1:24, 26, 28).
(11,23). Subalit kaligtasan pa rin ang layunin
pagdating ng huling araw (1 Cor. 5:5).
Ang kahalagahan ng pagsisiyasat sa sarili ay
makikita natin sa 1 Cor 11:28-32 kung saan
ang maling selebrasyon ng Huling Hapunan ay
may kaugayan sa sakit at kasalanan. Ang
pisikal na pagkakasakit ay ginagamit ng Diyos
upang manumbalik ang mga tao sa kanya.
May nagsasabing maganda ang naging
pagwawakas ng pagtutuwid na ipinatupad ng
iglesya para sa lalaki na nabanggit sa 1Corinto
5. Sa ikalawang sulat sa Corinto (2 Cor. 2:6-7),
ABCCOP Theological Commission 11
ninyo.
It is expected that he shall be handed over to
Satan in order to return to right path. Since he
himself has turned away from the church, the
church shall accept his decision. Sinners who
refuse to listen are turned away. (11,23).
Despite this, salvation is still the goal for when
judgement comes (1 Cor. 5:5).
The importance of self-examination can be
seen in 1 Corinthians 11:28-32 where the
wrong celebration of the Lord's supper is
connected to sin and sickness. The physical
sickness was used by the Lord to make people
repent.
Some people say that the disciplining done by
the church towards the man mentioned in 1
Corinthians 5 ended well. In 2 Corinthians 2:6-
7, Paul said, "for such a one, this punishment
by the majority is enough, so you should rather
turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be
overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. Let him feel
that you still love him.
C. Public confession and private
confession
pananagutan. Ang pag-amin ng mga
kasalanan sa ganitong sitwasyon ay maaaring
hindi na mahirap kumpara sa pag-saayos ng
mga modernong simbahan kung saan mas
malaki ang mga kongregasyon. Maraming
simbahan ngayon ang nagpapaunlad ng
kanilang mga ministeryo ng grupo upang
maibalik ang iglesya sa kanyang apostolikong
plano tulad ng nilayon ni Jesus. Ang pag-aamin
ng kasalanan ay isang mahalagang bahagi ng
ating buhay Kristiyano.
Utos sa Biblia ang Pagpapahayag ng
kasalanan sa Diyos at sa isat isa (Kawikaan
28:13, Santiago 5:16, 1 John 1:8-9).
C. Public confession and private
confession
It is important to remember that the church in
the times of the New Testament responded to
small groups (churches in houses, Acts 2:46).
In this context, the life of the community is
stricter and has more responsibility. The
confession of sins in this situation cannot be
more difficult compared to the the process done
by modern churches where the congregration
is larger. A lot of churches nowadays are
developing their ministries of groups in order to
return the church to its apostolic plan as Jesus
had wanted. The mutual confession of sin is an
important part of our lives as Christians.
Confession of sin to the Lord and to each other
is a command in the Bible. (Proverbs 28:13,
James 5:16, 1 John 1:8-9)
Bukod
dito, ang pagpapahayag ng kasalanan sa
publiko ay hindi isang karaniwang
pangkaraniwang pangyayari sa panahon ng
Bagong Tipan. Habang ang batayan ng Bibliya
tungkol sa pampublikong pag-amin ng
kasalanan ay hindi lubos na malinaw,
gayunpaman, may karunungan sa prinsipyo na
ang kasalanan ay dapat ipahayag sa mga
direktang nasaktan. Kapag ang buong
ABCCOP Theological Commission 12
simbahan ay naapektuhan, ang buong iglesia
ay dapat marinig ang pag-amin. Kapag ang
isang tao ay nasaktan, dapat tayong maghayag
ng ating kasalanan sa taong iyon. Ngunit kapag
ang kasalanan nangyari ng pribado, maaari
nating mapanatili ang pag-amin sa pagitan ng
ating sarili at ng Diyos.8
Sa parehong pagiisip, sumulat si John
MacArthur: "Ang pag-amin ng pagkakasala ay
laging dapat gawin sa Diyos. Ang pag-amin ay
dapat din sa sinumang nasaktan sanhi ng
kasalanan. Ang lawak ng pag-amin ay dapat na
kasing lawak ng madla sa orihinal na
pagkakasala. Ang mga pampublikong
paglabag ay tumatawag para sa publikong
pagpapahayag; Ang mga pribadong kasalanan
ay dapat ipahayag sa Diyos lamang. Maganda
In a public confession of sin, the Lord is
primarily the one being confessed to for all sins
are done against him, and so all confessions
must be to him. Aside from this, public
confessions are not a normal occurence in the
New Testament. While the basis of the Bible for
public confession isn't clear, there is wisdom in
the principle that sin must be confessed directly
to those it has hurt. If the entire church was
affected, the entire church must hear the
confession. If a person was hurt, the confession
must be done to that person. However, if the
sin was done in private, the confession can be
done between ourselves and the Lord.

Forgiveness, http://www.gty.org/resources/positions/P05/answering-the-hard-questions-about-forgiveness (Accessed on January 9, 2017).
In the same thought, John MacArthur wrote,
"confession of guilt must always be made to
God. Confession is also owed to whomever our
sin has injured. The arena of confession should
be as large as the audience of the original
offense. Public transgressions call for public
confession; private sins should be confessed to
God alone." It is better if we could have a
dependable partner that could help us in our
growth. Confession, however, does not need to
be done in public.
He also said, "Only actual injuries require
confession of a wrong. It would be
inappropriate for a man who had a lustful
thought to confess that thought to the woman
who was the object of his lust. Confession in
such cases should be made only to God." If
you've committed slander, it is possible that the
person you've defamed is not aware of this.
Regardless, you've committed sin and thus
must be corrected, not only to the person
you've slandered, but also to the person who
heard the slander.

iglesya:
Confession is not optional for Christians. John
proved that the mark of true fellowship with
God is not the absence of sin (1 John 1:8) but
the confession of it. (1 John 1:9) Confession,
like what we see, is expected in a comfortable
life according to James 5:16. "The Scriptures
also teach us the importance of community in
dealing with our sin. Confession of sin in the
presence of others is applying and celebrating
the gospel, together. We are sanctified sinners
who all need more grace for holiness, and we
must rehearse this together"(John Piper)
William Girao, in his pastoral manual entitled
"Celebrating Life's Special Moments," gave two
choices in making a public confession: the
sinner may confess his sin to either the elders
of the church or to a congression in an
exclusive gathering of the members of the
church.
He also gave additional instructions for the
congregation in exercising this kind of discipline
in the church:

Taos-pusong patawarin (pangalan); (2) Iwasan

at Euodia, atbp.
Hindi perpekto ang mga lider sa iglesia. Meron
po tayong kaaway: si satanas. Marami siyang
pamamaraang temtasyon: sekswal, abuso sa
alak, pera, galit, mapagmataas, problemang
mag-asawa, atbp.
Kahit alam natin hindi perpekto ang mga lider;
may mataas na pamantayan na nakalaan para
sa kanila.
Sa Lumang Tipan, makikita natin ang mas
matinding hatol sa mga nagkasalang Levitico,
kumpara sa mga pangkaraniwang tao (Lev.
Wholeheartedly forgive (name); (2) Avoid
misrepresentation and conversation regarding
this outside the church; (3) Not to judge or
criticize, but for brother/sister who is repenting
towards our loving Father who takes back his
lost children (Luke 15:20-24); (4) Don't shun,
humiliate, or treat as an inferior brother or sister
who is repentful; But in the same way do not
avoid, humiliate or give him more
consideration, don't look at him as a decorous
victim instead of the rightful wrongdoer; (5) In
order to warn us that we may also commit the
same sin, if not for the grace of God; (6) In order
to actively persuade (name) that he may not
commit the same sin or commit another, and
finally; (7) In order to once again, confirm our
unity as well as our empowerment and
protection of one another.
D. Church discipline to leaders
If we read the entire Bible, the life of leaders
wasnt always pleasant. Noah was drunken,
Abraham lied, David committed adultery,
Synthyche and Euodia argued, etc.
The leaders of the church aren't perfect. We
have a common enemy: Satan. He has a lot of
things in his arsenal of temptations: sex,
alcohol, money, anger, pride, marital problems,
etc.
Even if we know that leaders aren't perfect,
there's a higher standard set for them.
Punishments for sinful Levites found in the Old
Testament are heavier compared to those of
ordinary people. (Leviticus 10:1-11). The same
can be said for the punishment for Moses, as to
why he was not allowed to enter Canan,
compared to the plentiful sins of Israelites.
God's judgment for leaders is different
compared to that of regular people.
ABCCOP Theological Commission 15
Ganoon din sa Bagong Tipan. Iba ang mga
kinakailangan sa mga nasa pamumuno. Mula
namumuno (1 Tim 5:19-22).
1. Kailangang magingat! (19)
a. Kailangan suriin ang mga
impormasyon
b. Di dapat base sa mga sabi-sabi
c. Dapat may 2-3 saksi
Note: Ito ay hindi pwedeng gamitin bilang
basehan ng pampublikong pagpapahayag
subalit para sa pampublikong pagsaway kapag
paulit-ulit ang pagkakasala
3. Dapat walang kinikilingan o itinatangi (21).
Walang palakasan, walang pagkakaibigan
o walang kamag-anak.
4. Huwag madaliin ang pagbalik sa
pangunguna (22). Kailangan ng oras upang
maibalik ang tiwala sa kanila. Mag-ingat
tayo upang hindi tayo maging kabahagi sa
kasalanan niya.13
III. Pamamaraan ng pagtutuwid
Ang ilan sa pangunahing halimbawa ng
pagtutuwid sa sinumang iglesya ay: kasamaan
(1 Corinto 5:1-5; tumutukoy ito hindi lamang sa
kasalanang sekswal: maging sa imoralidad din
(Ephesians 5:1-7); at gayundin ang paglihis sa
katotohanan (Santiago 5:19-20).
It's the same in the New Testament. Different
things are required of those in leadership.
From Luke 12:48, we can see that punishment
for those in position or are knowledgeable is
more severe.
12Word Biblical Commentary. What is the force of the linear
aspect of , sinning? Is it referring to elders who sin constantly as opposed to occasionally, or does it describe continuing sin after the initial confrontation described in v 19? These two options are not mutually exclusive. The linear aspect guarantees that Paul is discussing an elder living a life of sin, not an elder who commits an occasional sin. The linear aspect of , confront, parallels the linear aspect of : Be in the habit of confronting those in the habit of sinning. If v 19 refers to a private confrontation of sin (see
It's a good thing that the Bible also gives us a
basis for when a leader commits sin (1 Timothy
5:19-22)
1. It's important to be careful (19)
a. Facts must be examined
b. Judgement must not be based on
stories
c. There must be 2-3 witnesses
Note: This is not to be used as basis for
public confession but public reprimand if
persistant in sin.
2. Leaders must be reprimanded in front of
people, in order to instill fear IF they
don't want to capital commiting sins. (20)
3. The judgement must be unbiased and
objective (21). Power, friendship or
family must not be used.
4. The return to leadership must not be
rushed (22). It takes time for trust to be
rebuilt. We must remain careful in order
to avoid sharing the leader's sinfulness.
III. Manner of discipline
Some primary examples of things that require
disciplining in any church are: wickedness (1
Corinthians 5:1-5; this refers not only to sexual
sins but also to immorality (Ephesians 5:1-7);
and also wandering from the truth (James 5:19-
20).
below), then it is probable that the linear aspect of in v 20 is a reference to those continuing in their sin despite this initial confrontation. Some translations have used when an elder sins, rebuke publicly. This , though is referring to an act of continuation, not a single act, after which repentance takes place.

ABCCOP Theological Commission 16
A. Pagtutuwid na may malasakit
Mayroong malasakit ang mabuting pastol sa
kanyang mga tupa (Juan 10:11-13).
Namamanhikan si Pablo sa mga ka-bahagi ng
iisang katawan ng Panginoon: upang hindi
magkaroon ng inggitan lahat ay
magmamalasakitan (1 Corinto 12:25).
Ayon sa Mga Taga-Galacia 6, mahalaga din
ang mahinahon na pagsasalita sa nagkasala,
at dapat suriin ng mga nagpapatupad ng
disiplina ang kanilang mga motibo.
Kung may taglay na malasakit ang pagtutuwid
sa iglesya, hindi ito ituturing na pakikialam. Sa
halip, ito ay pagmamalasakit sa isang
nakalilimot na miyembro ng pamilya (ka-isang-
bahay!).
kapatid. Ngunit hindi maaaring walang
malasakit at pagdamay ang pagtutuwid sa
sambahayan ng Diyos. Ang ating layunin ay
mapanumbalik sa Ama ang nagkasalang
kapatid. (Alalahanin ang naging pagtalakay
natin sa Mateo 18:15-20)
It's also good to remember in this part the
importance of truth as sincerity to others. This
is why slander is against the will of the Lord.
(Galatians 5:13-15, 19-21)
A. Disciplining with care
A good shephard cares for his flock. (John
10:11-13) Paul pleaded "that there may be no
division in the body, but that the members
may have the same care for one another."
(1 Corinthians 12:25)
According to Galatians 6, it's also important to
be gentle when talking to a sinner, and you
must be critical of yourself in order to impose
discipline on others.
If the discipliners of the church truly care,
disciplining would not be thought of as
intervention. Instead, it will be a show of care to
members of the family who forget. To us
Filipinos, it's not wrong to intervene with the
lives of friends or families. In this context,
advising, even in the form of criticism, is a sign
of care. (ATChurch, 1986). This good trait is
similar to that of sympathy, which is also a
Filipino characteristic. De Mesa has a good
description of this as:
Sympathy is the perception of the feelings felt
by our brother or sister; it is putting ourselves in
his or her shoes. In this situation, something
more than a communion of actions happens,
for sympathy requires the communion of
feelings. (de Mesa, 1990)
It's true that we need to strengthen ourselves in
order to be able to discipline our brethren.
However, there should not be a lack of care or
sympathy in the house of God. Our goal is to
make our sinful brother or sister return to the
Lord. (Remember our discussion of Matthew
18:15-20)
B. Pagtutuwid na may paggalang
May tatlong kaparaanan dito:
1. Kakayanang magtuwid ng sarili
(Gen.1:26-27).Kailangang
14Church A. Timothy, Filipino Personality: A review of Research and Writings (Manila:DLSU Press, 1986)
pagkatiwalaan ng tao ang may disiplina
sa sarili. Kung masyadong naghihigpit
ang iglesya, ipinahihiwatig nito na hindi
nagtitiwala na makapamuhay ng banal
ABCCOP Theological Commission 17
ang mga miyembro ng iglesia. Ang
malusog na paggalang at pagtitiwala sa
kalayaang kristiyano ng kapwa-kapatid
ay totoong nakatutulong sa kanyang
paglago sa pananampalataya.Sa
bahaging ito magandang linangin ang
mungkahi ni Tomas Andres ukol sa
maka-Filipinong pamamaraan ng
pangangasiwa. Ito ay ang sistemang
tutok-tiwala o yakap-suntok. Sapagkat
palaging may negatibo at positibo na
panig ang kaugaliang Filipino.
Gayundin, kailangan nating parehong
magtiwala at bantayan ang ating mga
kapatid sa pananampalataya. Kung
kabutihang-loob ang ipinamamalas ng
kapatiran, magandang kilalanin, purihin
at yakapin ito (YAKAP). Kung may
kasalanang nakikita,
kailangang itoy subaybayan at ituwid
(SUNTOK).
2. Kung pagsasabihan ang nagkasalang
kapatid, makabubuting iwasan ang
pagpapahiya sa kanya sa harap ng
kapatiran. Kailangang maingat tayo sa
ating pananalita. Kailangan din ang ang
lubos na pag-iingat kung ipatupad ang
pampublikong pag-amin. (hindi natin
tiyak kung itinatakda nga ito ng Mateo
18:17.) Kailangang pag-isipan kung
talagang makabubuti ito at hindi
makakasama sa buhay ng
nanunumbalik na kapatid. Pagbubuo at
hindi pagsira ng buhay ang
pangunahing layunin ng iglesya. Kung
may kaparusahan, dapat mayroon ding
kapatawaran (2 Cor 2:6-7), upang
mapigilan si satanas sa paggamit ng
kahinaan na sanhi ng sobrang
pagdidisiplina
B. Disciplining with respect
There are three ways:
1. The ability to discipline yourself
(Genesis 1:26-27). One must trust the
person who disciplines himself/herself. If
the church is too strict, this shows that
the church does not trust that its
members are able to live in a holy
manner. Respect and trust of the
freedom of our Christian brothers and
sisters will help them grow in their faith.
In this part it is good for us to refine
Tomas Andres' suggestion for a more
Filipino way of management. This is a
system that's "tutok-tiwala" or "yakap-
suntok." This can be compared to the
idea that all Filipino values have both
positive and negative sides. Likewise,
we must also trust and at the same time,
monitor our brothers/sisters. If the
brotherhood or sisterhood displayed
goodness, it is important to
acknowledge, praise, and embrace (in
Filipino, YAKAP) this behavior. If sinful
behavior is observed or is being
proliferated, it is important to supervise,
discipline, and "punch" (in Filipino,
SUNTOK).
2. If you're reprimanding your brother or
sister who has sinned, it would be best
to avoid embarrassing him or her in front
of the brotherhood or sisterhood. We
should be careful of our words. It's
equally important when its a public
confession. (We are not sure if this was
stated in Matthew 18:17). We have to
thoroughly think whether or not what we
say will be helpful to our brother or sister
in returning to the Lord. The primary goal
of the church is not to disrupt but to build
our relationship with the Lord. If there is
punishment, there must also be
forgiveness (2 Corinthians 2:6-7), in
order to prevent Satan from exploiting
the weakness coming from extreme
discipline.
3. May mga iglesyang ginagamit ang
okasyon ng pagdidisciplina para
bumango ang kanilang pangalan. Hindi
dapat isakripisyo ang kapatid (kahit pa
siya ay nagkasala) para lamang huwag
masiraan ang puri ng iglesia sa
komunidad. Gagawin ng iglesya ang
lahat ng kanyang magagawa upang
manumbalik sa Panginoon ang
ABCCOP Theological Commission 18
nagkasalang kapatid. Kahit pa itoy
mahirap.
IV. Ilang paala-ala
kapatid. Kailangan tayong mamagitan,
magmalasakit at dumamay sa kanya upang
siyay maituwid. Nang sa gayon manumbalik
ang dating pakikisama natin sa kanya at
makapag-balik-loob siya sa Diyos.
Dahil nakatutok sa may-sala ang layunin ng
ating pag-aaral, hindi natin napagtuunan ng
pansin ang napinsala ng may-sala. Ang
tinutukoy natin ay ang naging biktima ng
kasalanan.
bawat kristiyano. At ito ay bilang pagsunod kay
Hesu-kristo, ang dakilang pastol ng ating mga
buhay (Juan 10:11).
3. There are churches that use the occassion
of disciplining to better their names. We must
not sacrifice our brothers or sisters (even if they
have sinned) in order to avoid bad reputation of
the church in the community. The church must
do all it can do in order to bring the sinner back
to the Lord even if this would be difficult.
IV. Some reminders
In this study, we focused on the act of facing
our brothers or sisters who have sinned. We
must mediate, care, and sympathize with him
in order to discipline him. This is done so that
he may bring him back to the Lord.
We focused on how we should be treating the
sinner throughout the entire study and have yet
to acknowledge how we should be treating
people who were hurt by the sinner. We must
know that however way we treat the sinner,
with care and sympathy, we must treat the
victim with even more. We must shower those
who have been hurt with love so that they too
will be able to grow in their relationship with the
Lord.
At the end of it all, rebuilding the Christian life
of others is our goal as Christians. This is in
accordance to the will of Jesus Christ, the great
shepherd of our life (John 10:11).
A. Paraan para hindi humantong sa Church
Discipline
Mahalaga ang tamang pagtuturo,
pagsubaybay at pagpapaalala upang
maiwasan ang maraming kasalanan.
Mabawasan ang dami ng kaso ng Church
Discipline kung lumalago ang bawat miyembro.
ABCCOP Theological Commission 19
B. Halimbawa ng mga hakbang ng pag-
iingat
pera. Huwag din na hayaan na magkamaganak
sila. Makakatulong din ang malinaw na
patakaran kung paano pwedeng gamitin ang
pera. (commitment to order)
umalis.
A. Ways to avoid having to Church
Discipline
It is important to properly teach, supervise and
remind in order to avoid excessive cases of sin.
There would be less cases for church discipline
if all members are growing in the relationship
with the Lord.
B. Examples of preventive measures
In finance, avoid having only one person hold
or account for the money of the church. Do not
let members of the same family do the same. It
would also help to have clear policies on how
to use the money.
In counseling, as much as possible, don't let the
male pastor or elder counsel a female by
himself. It would be ideal if there's a glass
window in his office so that others can see
them.
It would be better if there would be no female
who would ride on the back of the male
members motor, or even in the same car if it's
just the two of them.
It is important to teach about making friends
rather than having relationships.
It is good to avoid ministry teams that only have
one boy or one girl.
Avoid entertaining hear-say stories.
If there are people who used to be active in the
church that suddenly become inactive without
a clear reason why, it would be good to ask
them properly about why exactly they left.
V. Mga dapat isaalang-alang
1. Pagkakaiba ng bawat kaso ng Church
Discipline
Ang bawat kaso ng Church Discipline ay
natatangi, kaya mahirap ibigay ang
pangkalahatan na gabay kung ano ang dapat
gawin. Depende ito sa lawak at lalim ng
kasalanan. Naging kinagawian na ba ito, o
ABCCOP Theological Commission 20
isang-beses lamang?
1. Utos ng Panginoon
2. Isang paraan ng pagpapahayag ng
ating mga kasalanan
3. Para sa lahat ng mananampalataya
4. Pagpapayo
1. Mabuti din kung may counseling na
matatanggap ang nagkasala mula sa
pastor, elder, kapwang leader o small
group na tumutulong sa nagkasala.
V. Final considerations
1. Uniqueness of each case of Church
Discipline
Each case of Church Discipline is unique,
which is why it's hard to give a general
guideline of what to do. It depends on the
severity and spread of the issue. Has it become
a habit, or did it only happen once? How many
people were affected and how severe was the
effect? How much understanding does the
offender have of what he has done and how
committed is he to correct his wrong?
2. Temporary relief from ministry
responsibilities
It would be recommended for the person with
the case to take a leave from
visible/public/leadership ministry during the
case so that he has more time fix his
relationship with the Lord. Usually this is at
least 6 months long. This should not be
automatic and must be evaluated at the end of
6 months to see if there were any changes or
growth in him. If there isn't any much, it's good
to extend this duration.
3. Participation in Lords Supper
We recommended that the person under
discipline should still attend the Holy Supper
because the holy supper is:
1. A command of God
2. One way of confessing our sins
3. For all believers
4. Counseling
1. It would also be good if the offender
received counseling from a pastor,
elder, co-leader or a small group.

Kung ang isang kapatiran na
maaaring lider rin sa iglesya ay
nahulog sa isang mabigat na
kasalanan, paano natin siya
mapapanumbalik?
Paano natin sila mapapanumbalik
sa pakikisama sa iglesya na hindi
sa pamamagitan ng
mapagpaimbabaw na pagsisisi o
mababaw na pagpapatawad?
Paano natin sila mapipigilang
lumayo sa pakikisama sa iglesya
o maiwaksi sa kapulungan ng mga
mananampalataya?
Paano tayo makakaalis sa
pagwawalang-bahala sa
problema na nagreresulta sa hindi
pagsasagawa ng proseso ng
pagpapanumbalik/pagtutuwid?
Paano natin maiiwasan ang
pagsasagawa ng mabilisang
proseso ng pagpapanumbalik?
Ang totoong pagpapanumbalik para sa
isang mananampalataya na nahulog sa
isang seryosong kasalanan ay
makakamtan sa pamamagitan ng
proseso ng pagtutuwid na kinikilala ang
magkatuwang na biyaya at
responsibilidad habang nilalayong
madala ang nagkasala pabalik sa isang
maka-Dios na pamumuhay. Ang mga
alituntunin na nakasaad dito, kasama
ang mga prinsipyo at pamamaraan, ay
maaaring makatulong sa mga iglesya
tungo sa epektibo at makabuluhang
pamamaraan ng pagpapanumbalik.
Introduction:16
See the guideline in Matthew 18:15-20;
Titus 2:2, 6-8; 1 Corinthians 6:1-7
16Major Reference: Wilson, Earl and Sandy; Friesen, Paul
and Virginia; Paulson, Larry and Nancy. Restoring the Fallen: A
When a Christian brother or sister,
who may even be a leader falls
how can we restore them back
from a serious moral failure?
How can we bring them back into
fellowship with more than a
superficial apology or a shallow
forgiveness?
How can we prevent them from
withdrawing from the fellowship or
being cast out from the body of
believers?
How can we move away from
denial that ignores the problem
and thus sees no need for the
process of restoration?
How can we avoid granting instant
or expeditious restoration?
Genuine restoration for a believer who
has encountered serious moral failure
can be achieved through a process of
discipline that recognizes both grace and
responsibility as it seeks to guide the
individual back to a God-centered life.
The guidelines herein presented along
with principles and procedures can
hopefully help the church towards a more
effective and meaningful means of
restoration.

pagpapanumbalik

Dios) - Mga kapatid, kapag natagpuan
ang isang tao sa pagsalangsang, kayong

mga taong sumusunod sa Espiritu ang
magpanumbalik sa kaniya sa espiritu ng
kaamuan. Ngunit mag-ingat kayo sa
inyong sarili na baka kayo naman ay
matukso.2 Batahin ninyo ang pasanin ng
bawat isa't isa. Sa ganitong paraan ay
tinutupad ninyo ang kautusan ni
Cristo.3 Ito ay sapagkat kapag iniisip ng
sinuman na siya ay mahalaga at hindi
naman, dinadaya niya ang kaniyang
sarili.4 Ngunit suriin ng bawat isa ang
sarili niyang mga gawa. Kung
magkagayon, makakapagmapuri siya sa
kaniyang sarili nang walang
pagkukumpara sa iba.5 Ito ay sapagkat
ang bawat isa ay dapat magbata ng
bahagi na dapat niyang pasanin. 6 Ang
mga tinuturuan sa salita ay dapat
magbahagi ng mabubuting bagay
kasama ang tagapagturo. 7 Huwag
ninyong hayaang kayo ay mailigaw. Hindi
mo maaaring libakin ang Diyos sapagkat
anuman ang inihasik ng isang tao, iyon
din ang kaniyang aanihin.
II. Paglatag ng pundasyon
A. Ang pagpapanumbalik ay hindi
aksidente at awtomatik.
I. The Biblical mandate on restoration
Galatians 6:1-7 (NIV) - Doing Good to All
- Brothers and sisters, if someone is
caught in a sin, you who live by the
Spirit should restore that person gently.
But watch yourselves, or you also may be
tempted. 2 Carry each others burdens,
and in this way, you will fulfill the law of
Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are
something when they are not, they
deceive themselves. 4 Each one should
test their own actions. Then they can take
pride in themselves alone, without
comparing themselves to someone
else, 5 for each one should carry their
own load. 6 Nevertheless, the one who
receives instruction in the word should
share all good things with their
instructor.7 Do not be deceived: God
cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he
sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their
flesh, from the flesh will reap
destruction; whoever sows to please the
Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal
life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing
good, for at the proper time we will reap
a harvest if we do not give
up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity,
let us do good to all people, especially to
those who belong to the family of
believers.
II. Laying the Groundwork
A. Restoration is neither accidental
nor automatic. It requires
deliberate involvement. Friends
around the fallen individual and
those immediately affected can
best help by:
1. listening kindly; Proverbs 15:4;
16:24; 17:27-28
2. acknowledging the
seriousness of the situation
rather than assisting in the
destructiveness of denial; and,
2 Corinthians 5:20
3. urging the fallen person to look
for help so the move toward
restoration can begin.
1. Ang pagtatalaga ng sarili sa isang grupo, sa layunin at proseso ng pagtutuwid sa loob ng hindi bababa sa dalawang (2) taon;
2. Ang regular na pakikipanayam sa nanunumbalik (kapatirang tinututulungang makapanumbalik) at kung siya ay kasal na ay kasama ang kanyang asawa at ang iba pang miyembro ng koponan ng pagpapanumbalik sa mga usaping kaugnay sa proseso ng pagpapanumbalik;
3. Ang madalas na pananalangin para sa nanunumbalik (at kung siya ay kasal na ay kasama ang kanyang asawa) at sa proseso ng pagtutuwid;
B. An approach on restoration should
emphasize four basic ideas (Psalm
85:10-13; 86:11):
1. the importance of dealing with
the truth regarding sin;
2. the need for complete
repentance;
3. the need for the establishment or
re-establishment of spiritual
principles and disciplines; and,
4. the need for restoration of
damaged relationships.
III. The formation of a Restoration Team
A. Commitment - The intentional and
deliberate act of restoration requires
the formation of a restoration team
who would take on the real task and
implement the process. The
following logistical and procedural
commitments are to be expected
from the team:
1. To commit to the team, the
purpose and the process for at
least two years;
2. To be in regular communication
with the restoree (and if married,
with his or her spouse) and the
other members of the team on
matters directly related to the
process of restoration;
3. To pray regularly for the restoree
(and if married, with his or her
spouse) and for the entire
process;
4. Ang regular na pakikpulong sa kanya ayon sa iskedyul na maaaring lingguhan, buwanan o isang beses kada tatlong buwan, depende sa progreso ng pagtutuwid;
ABCCOP Theological Commission
25
5. Ang komunsulta sa iba pang mga spiritual na lider at mga taong dulugan sa komunidad ng mga mananampalataya kung kinakailangan;
1. Kagalingan at Pangangalagang Moral at Espiritwal (Hebreo 13:17):
4. To meet regularly in
progressively spaced
meetings,preferably starting
weekly, then monthly, then
quarterly, depending on the
progress of the process;
5. To consult with other spiritual
leaders and resource persons of
the Christian community when
necessary; and,
6. To hold the restoree accountable
to whatever agreed upon actions
of restitution starting from the
initial repentance.
B. Purposes - Restoration ministry is
divine in nature and is characterized
above all by grace. With this view in
mind the restoration team of three
(3) to five (5) members can be
formed with the following purposes:
1. Moral and Spiritual Cure and Care
(Hebrews 13:17):
a. to ferret out the spiritual roots of
the problem or the fall;
b. help the restoree come to a place
of spiritual health;
c. to focus not only on the particular
sin but on the whole area of
spiritual growth;
d. to help the restoree become
grounded anew in his/her
relationship with God.
2. Akmang Espiritwal na Kasangkapan ng Katawan ni Cristo:
ABCCOP Theological Commission
26
(1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
3. Pananagutan at pagiging sensitibo:
a. Kumilos bilang tagasuporta sa asawa at ibang miyembro ng pamilya na maaaring naapektuhan rin ng kasalanan;
b. Pakinggan at samahan ang asawa at ibang miyembro ng pamilya upang malaya silang makapagsalita nang may katotohanan at kagitingan at mailahad rin ang kanilang mga katanungan;
a. Ang pagkakaroon ng maraming miyembro ng koponan ng pagpapanumbalik ay makakapagpahirap sa pagsubali sa katotohanan at pagpapahiya sa buong grupo;
2. Appropriate Spiritual Resources
of the Body:
a. To bring together different
spiritual gifts needed for the
process;
b. Gifts such as intercession,
discernment, admonishment,
encouragement, mercy and
serving are part of the job
description for a team member;
gifts of knowledge and wisdom
too (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
3. Accountability and Sensitivity:
a. To act as an advocate for the
spouse and other family
members who have also been
injured;
b. To listen and stand by the
spouse and family members, that
they may speak truthfully and
courageously speak their mind or
ask questions;
c. To hold the restoree accountable
in correcting negative and
harmful patterns toward the
family members and others who
were affected to rebuild
relationship with them.
4. Penetrating Denial and Clarifying
Reality:
Often the one who has fallen into sin is
a powerful person who is able to
intimidate those around him or her and
convincingly present a distorted view of
reality, seeking to impose it on others.
a. Having multiple members on the
team would make it more difficult
to distort the facts or intimidate a
whole group;
b. A spouse or family member who
might otherwise be too wounded,
confused or insecure to stand
alone will benefit from the
strength and support of the team.
6. Pananalangin (Intercession): Santiago 5:12-16; 1 Pedro 4:7-8
Mapagpakumbaba

Laang makiisa
5. Synergy: The team can benefit from
