I do not think I am alone when I say that I struggle with the daily disciplines of my service to God. Making me to pray, study or even to meditate daily is challenging. I do not think this is by accident. Our enemy, Satan, knows that he has a much greater chance destroying our faith by crowding it out of our lives rather than by an open assault. Our lives are so very busy. From the me we get up to when we go to sleep there is always something to occupy our me and energy. These things may not be bad, in fact, I would say most of what we spend ourselves on is produc- ve and good, many of these things may even be Church acvies. The problem comes when we allow these things to crowd out the me we should be personally devong to God. We need to spend me every day training our thoughts on God’s word, focusing our minds on His will and considering how we should go about carrying it out each day. This is God’s means of providing our spiritual nourishment. Imagine trying to live and work Sunday to Sunday without eang food or drinking. We would not die right away. Early on we would have the pangs of hunger. As these diminish we would experience fague and weakness. Aſter a while our mind would become foggy, struggling to stay alert. We can easily see that con- nually following this paern would be foolish and unproducve at best and physically dangerous, even deadly, at worst. Yet, how many days do we let go by without obtaining our spiritual nourishment? Has it become such a paern in our lives so that our spirit does not even have the hunger pangs for God’s word any longer? Are we living in the fog of the concerns of the world no longer being able to focus our minds on God’s will for us? Is Satan being successful in crowding out our faith? I would like us all to take the me to consider how devoted we are to staying close to God each day. Most of us will be able to see room for improvement in our lives. Let us use this week to shake ourselves out of the trance of the busyness of this world and re-commit ourselves to daily devoon and prayer. Barry

CHURCH OF CHRIST

Diligence in Devotion to God 2Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Hearken

diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in fatness. 3Incline your ear, and come to me; hear,

that your soul may live; - Isaiah 55:2-3a

I want us to think this week about a topic that I struggle with constantly. I do not think I am alone when I say

that I struggle with the daily disciplines of my service to God. Making time to pray, study or even to meditate

daily is challenging. I do not think this is by accident. Our enemy, Satan, knows that he has a much greater

chance destroying our faith by crowding it out of our lives rather than by an open assault. Our lives are so

very busy. From the time we get up to when we go to sleep there is always something to occupy our time

and energy. These things may not be bad, in fact, I would say most of what we spend ourselves on is produc-

tive and good, many of these things may even be Church activities. The problem comes when we allow these

things to crowd out the time we should be personally devoting to God. We need to spend time every day

training our thoughts on God’s word, focusing our minds on His will and considering how we should go about

carrying it out each day. This is God’s means of providing our spiritual nourishment.

Imagine trying to live and work Sunday to Sunday without eating food or drinking. We would not die right

away. Early on we would have the pangs of hunger. As these diminish we would experience fatigue and

weakness. After a while our mind would become foggy, struggling to stay alert. We can easily see that con-

tinually following this pattern would be foolish and unproductive at best and physically dangerous, even

deadly, at worst. Yet, how many days do we let go by without obtaining our spiritual nourishment? Has it

become such a pattern in our lives so that our spirit does not even have the hunger pangs for God’s word any

longer? Are we living in the fog of the concerns of the world no longer being able to focus our minds on

God’s will for us? Is Satan being successful in crowding out our faith?

I would like us all to take the time to consider how devoted we are to staying close to God each day. Most of

us will be able to see room for improvement in our lives. Let us use this week to shake ourselves out of the

trance of the busyness of this world and re-commit ourselves to daily devotion and prayer.

*An attended nursery is provided during worship assembly as well as a Children’s Church for ages 4 years thru 3rd grade which dismisses after Communion.

*Communion—We celebrate the resurrection of our Lord every Sunday (“first day of the week”) through a time of communion known as the Lord’s Supper. The “unleavened bread” represents His body and the “fruit of the vine” (cup of grape juice) represents His blood shed on the cross. As our guest, you are welcome to

participate, though you are not required to do so. *Giving– We are challenged to be good stewards of God’s blessings by supporting the various ministries of the church through a weekly collection that is taken during our worship time. You are welcome to give, but

please do not feel as though you must.
