Following their topic Charlie and The Chocolate Facto-
ry, Dosbarth Caerffili and Aberystwyth went on their
class trip to Cadburys World. The children really en-
joyed learning all about how the chocolate was made
and where it came from. They had the opportunity to
design their own chocolate bars. Mrs Hall said “It was
a fantastic trip”.
Aberhonddu have been working hard in RE this term. We have been learning
about different types of prayer and different festivals. We have enjoyed exploring
different religious artefacts and tried making our own. RE has been fun. The staff
said “Bradley really enjoyed the activities and learning through creative play”.
As part of their ‘Food and Farming’ topic class Caerdydd went to
Cwmbran community farm. They looked at how a cow gets milked
and practiced on an artificial cow. Joseph
said the trip was “ fantastic ” and Aaron really enjoyed
seeing Elvis the pig. As part of the same topic class Con-
wy made animal masks.
Class Ogwr have enjoyed making things for their ‘ busi-
ness enterprise and are planning some work experience the BRFM. The students
are settling in well in college.
Class Caldicot and Fflint have been learning about light and dark using tents,
torches and sensory. They also made lanterns learning about Diwali. Callum
Preece has settled in well in his new class.
Class Harlech went up to the Garden Festival to find their secret Santa presents.
As part of their topic ’ people who help us ’ they have also become the Christmas
Post Office.
Class Morlais’ topic was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and they have enjoyed all the
creative work .
Inclusion— many of the pupils have been attending mainstream schools with our
inclusion team. They have enjoyed various activities such as drama and PE.
After months of anticipa-
tion the first and second
of December finally ar-
rived and the pupils of
Pen-y-Cwm finally left for
Lapland UK. The trip
followed months of
fundraising events by the
PTA, which involved the
selling of cakes, gala
dinners, parties, raffles
and many other events.
The pupils were transport-
ed on luxury coaches to
Ascot in Berkshire, on a
journey that took more
than two and a half hours.
On arrival they were greet-
ed by elves. Following a
little play by the elves they
stepped out to a magical
world covered in snow.
The path led them to the
toy factory, where the pu-
pils were met by more
elves. These elves needed
help to make some of the
toys for Father Christmas.
The pupils made
reindeers and wooden
horses, before learning to
play a song on the
xylophone.
Following this the pupils
were led to Mother
Claus’s kitchen where
they decorated ginger-
bread houses. The pupils
really enjoyed this activity
and were able to take the
biscuits home. Mother
Claus then read the story
of “The Ginger Bread
Man” while the pupils lis-
tened carefully and joined
in.
Next staff and pupils put
on their ice skates to
skate around the
village ice rink. The rink
was the centre piece of
the village surrounded by
gift shops, restaurants,
post office and iron mon-
ger. There were also
husky dogs in the village.
The finale was a visit the
man himself—Father
Christmas. The pupils
met his reindeers on the
way, before their visit to
his hut. Father Christ-
mas knew the name of
every pupil and knew
facts about them such
as their pet’s names. He
gave each pupil a soft
toy of a husky and told
them they were on the
good list. After an event-
ful, exciting but exhaust-
ing day the pupils and
staff returned safely to
Ebbw Vale. A massive
thank you to all the par-
ents that attended and
all the parents that
raised the funds for the
trip of a lifetime.

PEN-Y-CWM POST
Merry Christmas
and a
Happy New Year from all the staff and
Pupils at
Pen-y-Cwm.
Nadolig Llawen
Parents and friends of
Pen-y-Cwm were treated to
a fantastic play called
Psalty ‘s Christmas
Calamity . The play was
about a hymn book by the
name of Psalty.
Reverend Shopland asked
Psalty and the children to
sing in a Christmas
Concert .
But Psalty’s pages
were very dusty and
the music didn’t sound
very good. They tried to
fix it by washing the
pages but that didn’t
work.
They tried to give Psalty
Tonic but that made
him feel sick. The
children put their faith
in God and the concert
went well Psalty was
played by Miss Hall and
all the children sang
fantastically. The
parents enjoyed and
joined in with some of
the carols. Mrs Williams
would like to thank
Everyone involved for a
marvelous show that
recognized the real
meaning of Christmas.
