Physical Geography• Chile divides into northern, central, and southern regions, with
the great Andes mountain system common to all three.• Northern Chile consists largely of the desolate Atacama Desert.• Central Chile extends from the southern edge of the Atacama
Desert to the Corcovado Gulf, a coastal mountain range• Southern Chile is a region with many islands and a coast where
the Andes drop into the sea• Chile sits in the southern hemisphere so there seasons are the
totally opposite from regular season • Summer: December - February• Fall: March - May• Winter: June - August• Spring: September - November

Culture• Spanish is the official language spoken in Chile,
but there are some indigenous languages such as Mapudungun and Ayinara
• 89% of Chile is Roman Catholic and the other percent is Protestant or Jewish
• 95% of Chileans ethnicity is white and white Amerindian 3% Amerindian and 2% other
• Chile is a Republic and there current president is Sebastian Pinera

• Tradition in Chile is openly observed with their numerous religious festivals, which are unique in its celebrations in specific localities.
• Chile is known for there bright colorful festivals and music.

• When they finally became independent the country economic development was successful

Current Issue 1
• Government authorities in Chile’s Atacama region ordered the temporary shutdown of the Agrosuper pig processing plant in the small town of Freirina on Tuesday, much to the relief of the local residents who had been blocking the plant’s entrance over the last five days protesting the horrible smells coming from it.

• Chilean president delivers “Presidential Message” amid low approval On Monday morning, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera delivered his “Presidential Message” at the National Congress in Valparaiso amidst the lowest approval ratings of his presidential career and the shouts of 8,000 protesters gathering just blocks away.
