Maths Objectives

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.

Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems,

including doubling, halving and sharing.

Daily – Practise counting forwards and backwards with numbers to 20.

Practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Practise talking about the features of 2D and 3D shapes – use the shape cards from your book bag to help.

Practise saying 1 more/1 less than numbers to 20.

1 – Addition activity 1 – Count the sea creatures to find the answer. To add an extra challenge, write the number

sentence to match each one.

2 –Addition activity 2 – There are two fish in a tank. Each fish is blowing bubbles. Can you find out how many

bubbles are in the tank altogether? How will you find out? What could you use to help you?

As a challenge, don’t just count the bubbles to find the answer. Count how many are coming from each fish,

then use a number line to count on to find the answer.

3 – Addition activity 3 – I Spy! Use the I spy sheet and the number sentence worksheet to complete the activity. To

change yourself, count on using a number line to find the answer.

4 – Addition activity 4 – Colour by numbers – complete the two different under the sea pictures. Use your addition

skills to find out what colour you will need.

5- Capacity – complete the worksheets below and then have a go with containers at home. Find three empty

containers of different sizes. Estimate which would hold the most and least and which would come in the middle.

Then find out whether you are right by counting how many spoonfuls or cupfuls of dried rice/pasta/lentils fill them.

Phonics/Reading Objectives

- To be able to understand what you have read.

- To be able to recognise and remember phase 3 digraphs.

- To be able to spell CVCC/CCVC words including digraphs

Page 11: Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place ... · Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one

Daily- read at home, using BugClub or a book

-Practise red words and phonic flash cards

-Practise Phonics Games on Phonics Play

1 – Reading – choose your favourite book from home, read it with a grown up and answer the following questions.

- Who was your favourite character and why?

- Was there a problem in the story that the characters had to overcome? If so, what was it?

- What was your favourite part of the story and why?

- Could it have ended differently? Tell me how?

- See if you can spot three red words in the book.

-

2 – Red words – listen to our favourite red word songs - introduce your child to ‘little’ and ‘one’ as these have

been introduced to the children who are attending school. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NOzgR1ANc4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgQBLfEIXvs – little

-

3– Sorting digraphs – sort the following images into digraphs. There are three different digraphs to spot. Once you

have sorted them, write the words to match the pictures. Try to remember the digraph by yourself or use a sound

mat to help.

4- Red word spelling – I have attached a grid of all red words learnt so far. Choose some at random to test your

child’s spelling abilities. Maybe choose 5 at a time to work on.

so Do like have they all are

5 – Hold a sentence – Read the following sentences, one by one to your child. Ask them to repeat the sentence

back to you a few times to help them remember it all before attempting to write it down. Once they have

finished, go through the sentence together to spot any mistakes. Remember, capital letter, finger spaces and full

stop.

- The clown has big feet.

- I have got wings.

- My cow is brown.

- The thorn hurt my hand.

Literacy Objectives

- Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They

write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible

Daily - handwriting practise

1 – Make a diary or scrapbook for 2 weeks – each day, draw a picture or take a photograph of one or two things

that you did. Underneath the picture write one sentence about your day. Grown-ups, try to only show your child

the corrections once they have had a go at the sentence using their phonic knowledge.

Theme Objectives – We have now completed all of our topics so I thought we could have a little fun with our learning for the last

couple of weeks! Under ‘normal’ circumstances in these last few weeks of school we would be competing in Sports Day and getting

ready for Fun Day in between getting ourselves ready for the transition to Year 1.

1 – Sports Day – With a family member, compete against them to see who wins at Sports Day. Complete each of

the activities below (you could think of some of your own too) and keep score!

- Egg and spoon race – set out a course and see who crosses the finish line first. Maybe boil the eggs first to

reduce the mess! If you drop the egg, pick it up and carry on.

- Throwing and aiming – if you don’t have a ball, you could use something like a cuddly toy. Set three

containers, hoops or buckets at different distances. If you get the object in the first container you get 5

points, if you get it in the middle one you get 10 points, if you get it in the furthest one you get 15 points.

- Obstacle course – it is up to you how you make/do this one!

- Running race – a simple track or route is needed (maybe at the park). Whoever crosses the finish line first,

wins!

- Hurdles – make sure you have plenty of space and lay out some low objects along the course. Safely

jump over the objects and cross the finish line.

2- Fun Day Baking – For Fun Day, Early Years usually make Under the Sea themed cupcakes. I thought it would be

fun for you to do this at home too. You can be as creative as you would like to be. A basic recipe that I usually

follow for cupcakes is:

- Weigh three eggs in their shells – use that weight for all ingredients

- Mix together butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy

- Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl or jug

- Weigh out the flour in a separate bowl

- Add a little of the flour and egg at a time to the butter and sugar mixture and fold in

- Keep going until fully combined

- Add half a teaspoon of vanilla extract

- Add a pinch of baking powder

- Mix together and then transfer the mixture into cupcake cases

Page 15: Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place ... · Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one

- Bake for 15minutes

- Decorate in a sea theme!

- Send a picture to [email protected]

3 – Creative activities- choose as many of the below to make at home – use whatever resources you have – you

can change and adapt them to suit what you have.

4 –Find, Colour and Count – complete the topic related worksheet below

5- Transition to Year 1 – Below are images of the teacher and TAs that will be teaching in Year 1 next year. I have

also attached images of the classrooms and

cloakrooms.
