CB Brandon Flowers opened up the scoring that evening when he returned a Hasselbeck interception 28 yards for a touchdown less than four minutes into the game. K Ryan Succop pulled Kansas City to within four points with 11:50 left in the game, but the Chiefs were not able to score again.

CHIEFS-SEAHAWKS REGULAR SEASON SERIES HISTORY

Kansas City owns a 32-18 (.640) regular season advantage over Seattle. The Chiefs and Seahawks competed as AFC West foes from 1977-2001 before realignment moved Seattle into the NFC West. The Chiefs have won six of the last eight regular season matchups, dating back to 2000. Most recently, Kansas City earned a 42-24 victory at Qwest Field on Nov. 28, 2010 in a Week 12 contest that proved to be a crucial win in the Chiefs successful pursuit of an AFC West title. QB Matt Cassel tied a career-high that afternoon with four TD passes as he went 22-for-32 passing for 233 yards and a 129.3 QB rating. WR Dwayne Bowe was on the receiving end of three of those scoring strikes to set a career-high in addition to tying a career-best with 13 receptions for 170 yards. Pete Carroll is in his third season as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks after being named to the position on Jan. 11, 2010. It marks his seventh year as an NFL head coach after previous stints with the New England Patriots (1997-99) and New York Jets (1994). As head coach in New England (1997-99), Carroll led the Patriots to a 27-21 (.563) record and two playoff appearances. His initial NFL head coaching job was with the Jets in 1994, who finished 6-10. Carroll began his NFL coaching career as the DBs coach for the Buffalo Bills (1984) and Minnesota Vikings (1985-89). He went on to become the defensive coordinator for the Jets (1990-93) and San Francisco 49ers (1995-96). SEAHAWKS HEAD COACH - PETE CARROLL

Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and General Manager Scott Pioli announced Romeo Crennel as the club’s 12th head coach in franchise history on Jan. 9, 2012. Crennel joined the Chiefs in January, 2010 as the club’s defensive coordinator. On Dec. 12, 2011, Crennel was named head coach of the Chiefs after the first 13 games of the season. In

the final three games under Crennel, the Chiefs went 2-1 with a victory over the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers. Crennel enters his 31st season as a coach in the NFL in 2012. He has coached in six Super Bowls and has been a member of five teams that have claimed Super Bowl wins. Before joining the Chiefs organization in 2010, Crennel served a four-year stint as head coach of the Cleveland Browns (2005-08). Prior to joining the Browns in 2005, Crennel spent four seasons as New England’s defensive coordinator (2001-04). During that four-year span, the Patriots won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX) and he was named the NFL’s Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003. Crennel’s initial NFL coaching experience came with the New York Giants from 1981-92. During that 12-year span, he was part of New York’s victories in Super Bowls XXI and XXV. He also made collegiate coaching stops at Georgia Tech (1980), Mississippi (1978-79), Texas Tech (1975-77) and Western Kentucky (1970-74). “Running back Jamaal Charles not only ran like the Jamaal Charles of old (three carries for 17 yards) and caught the ball like the Charles of old (two for 18), but he stuck his head in there on pass protection, chipping a pass rusher before slipping out of the backfi eld and catching a pass for seven yards [at St. Louis].”- Randy Covitz, Kansas City Star

“[Dexter McCluster] could be one of the most dangerous slot receivers in football. When Steve Breaston is your No. 4 receiver, you’ve got a pretty good receiving corps.

“What I’m saying is they have enough offensive weapons. ... If the Chiefs stay reasonably healthy, they’ll defi nitely be duking it out with Denver, and maybe San Diego, for the AFC West crown late in December.”- Peter King, Sports Illustrated

“This team is in a good place. The players love playing for Crennel. One of the reasons Crennel was promoted from interim coach was the players’ respect for him. It has continued now that he is the permanent coach. ... Crennel offers a calm, steady hand. Players love that he’s organized and up front. There is a lot of trust.

“This is the best overall roster in the AFC West. It is one of the deepest rosters in the AFC. There is proven talent throughout the roster and the team has the right mix of veteran and young players.” - Bill Williamson, ESPN.com

As the franchise has done in the past, the Chiefs are celebrating USA Football Month on Friday evening by inviting 4,000 youth football players to Arrowhead Stadium to see the Chiefs take on the Seattle Seahawks. In addition to receiving tickets to the game, the players and coaches have the unique opportunity to walk around the perimeter of the fi eld during pre-game activities. USA Football and its mission of youth and amateur football development are emphasized across the NFL every August through youth football scrimmages in NFL venues, USA Football messages during network telecasts, stadium video board promotion and NFL team websites. USA Football is the offi cial youth football development partner of the NFL, the NFL Players Association and all 32 NFL teams. USA Football is the only organization in the NFL’s 90-year history to be recognized as the league’s offi cial youth football development partner.

THE ARROWHEAD ADVANTAGE

In the immediate aftermath of the May 22, 2011 tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt committed to sustained assistance from the Chiefs organization in relief and rebuilding efforts. To date, the club and its fans have pledged more than $250,000 in support.

The latest endeavor transpired on June 15, 2012 as a contingent of over 150 Chiefs Community Caring Team members – including representatives of the Hunt family, General Manager Scott Pioli, President Mark Donovan, players, coaches and front offi ce staff – participated in the 2012 Governor’s Joplin Habitat Challenge, a collaborative effort by Missouri’s prominent athletic organizations and the Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity.

The Chiefs helped to build fi ve homes in Joplin as a result of this volunteer effort. Prior to the start of the NFL season, the team will return to the city as it furnishes a new playground structure for the Joplin School District.

ROAF’S PRO BOWL CAREER

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT ROAF

“Willie is one of the finest offensive lineman to suit up in a Chiefs uniform and is worthy of this extremely prestigious honor. In his four seasons with the Chiefs, Willie anchored one of the best offensive lines in the National Football League. His election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame solidifies his place as one of the greatest offensive lineman in the history of professional football.”

— Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt

“Willie’s unique abilities, work ethic and dedication to the game played a major part in allowing the Chiefs to become the most prolific offense in the National Football League during his time with Kansas City. He set the standard for the play at his position and was the single-most dominating pass protector of his era. His performance enabled his teammates to achieve standards of excellence that still remain record-setting performances in NFL history.”

— Al Saunders Offensive Coordinator, 2001-05

“I just don’t know if there’s ever been one any better. I don’t know of anybody that was as complete of a player as he was. He had no limitations. He is a unique guy, athletically and in every way. He’s very bright, very big and fast and explosive. It was far better to coach with him than against him.” — Dick Vermeil Head Coach, 2001-05

“His consistency and what he brought to the field on game day really changed the way the position was played. Willie really made a huge difference with the attitude he brought to the playing field, which was something special. I know for a fact that we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what we did offensively in the early 2000s without him. I would say that he is as talented as any left tackle that’s ever played the game. When you talk about big, athletic left tackles, he definitely has to be in that argument for one of the best to ever play, if not the best to ever play the position.” — Trent Green Quarterback, 2001-06
