FROM THE PRESIDENT We are deep into the warm weather. I hope all of you had a great forth of July. Fortunately the weather co-operated for those of us that had cookouts. I think the hot dog roast we had in June was a roaring success. A big round of applause should go to all of those involved. Plenty to eat and good comradeship was had by all. July's meeting will feature our annual ice cream night. Bring a big appetite! Also we will have a guest speaker to tell us about solar power for our homes. We will serve the ice cream first and can be eating during the presentation. I trust everyone will be courteous during the brief presentation and be not be carrying on sidebar conversations. If you feel the need to talk, take it outside.

Fred Gaines

PROGRAM – ICE CREAM SOCIAL Ice cream will be served immediately following the Business Meeting. The speaker will follow refreshments. Jason is the representative from Solar City, a company owned by Tesla Motor Company. He will explain options for saving money on you your electric bill.

IMPORTANT – CARS AND STORIES I have a cover photo & story for August, but none for the rest of this year. It is the right time of year for pictures, so no excuse. If you don’t want to see my grandchildren or their animals, you better –e-mail me your photo & story. [email protected] Thank You, Natalie Gomez

CAR SHOW - 2016

Rich Parsons, Hugh Purnell or any member that may have taken photo’s at our May car show Please e-mail them to me. [email protected] NOTE: NEWSLETTER IS 5 PAGES INSTEAD OF 6 DUE TO LACK OF CONTRIBUTION FROM MEMBERS.

COVER CAR – 1964 CORVETTE Hello, I’d like you all to meet “SASHA”. I named her this because I thought she looked so sassy. I saw her the first time in a picture, like some of us did, and I said I just have to go and see her. I traveled down to Kentucky and after several brief moments of gazing at her, I said I had to bring her home with me.

Her prior caretaker said she would do 10.90s in the ¼ mile. I thought at the time that this was just another one of those tall tales, you know, like how big the fish was that you caught that day. Well, even if that was partially true, she would still be able to beat a brand new vette in a straight line. When her engine started, my heart felt the excitement and I knew we were going to be together for long time.

When she arrived at her new home, I did a title search and found out that she had been with 6 gents (me being one of them) in 7 months (slut?). Each person though must have done their little something in making her the lady she is today. She has larger lifters, a new welded exhaust, new electric fans to keep her engine cool and brake systems completely redone. I suspect she has a high performance cam as well. I was impressed.

She now resides on a lift that I bought just to keep her happy. I have rebuilt or replaced all of her front end. I added a dual master cylinder, new brake lines and will be adding power steering. As you can see, her headlight

is drooping on one side so I’m going to add my personal touch to get both lights up at the same time when I flip on the switch.

She has been modified to be a Pro Street looker. No I don’t mean a lady of the evening but one which has a big fat beautiful rear end. That’s what turned me on! Sorry, guys….you can look but no touching.

I haven’t enhanced her interior yet but I can see that none of her recent men have done so either. I actually feel somewhat inadequate in this area. But as we all know, when we start a new relationship, we have to work at it to make it better.

It’s going to take a bit more time to get her in shape and off to the cosmetic salon but she will be worth all the time spent on her. I hope when you see her you will stare at her for a long time. Don’t worry, you won’t be able to tell she’s embarrassed because that will be the color of her high gloss makeup. Michael Piscotty

REFRESHMENTS

The Hot Dog Cookout was well attended, lots of delicious desserts made by the ladies. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it a success. Jack & Joyce Wright and Nat & Bob Gomez will take care of July Ice Cream. Bring your appetite. Judy Deane

TOUCH A TRUCK

Mark your calendar – Touch A Truck Day – Aug. 14th – 12 to 4. Hugh has done the paper work, and all you have to do is show up. This is a great day to bring your kids or grandkids. Last year they had over 50 participants and they are looking for dump truck, cement mixer, tractor, milk truck, new cars, antique/classic cars and everything in between. This event is being held at the Chester County Government Service Bldg., 601 Westtown Rd., West Chester. Any questions, contact Hugh at 610-692-3845. Hugh Purnell

ANNUAL CRUISE/HOT DOG NIGHT

Our annual cruise/hot dog night was held in June, however not much cruise as rain was on its way and the majority left their antique/classic cars in the garage. Despite the weather forcast, thanks to George & Carol Hitchens for bringing the grille, hot dogs and rolls and being chief cooks. This year we were surprised with a crock pot with hot dogs and baked beans and one with sauerkraut and hot dogs. If you liked hot dogs, you could not go away hungry. So plenty of food for everyone to enjoy. Then it was time to check out the dessert table, and thanks to all the members that contributed, as there were so many and all delicious. Tom & Judy made sure we had the fix-ins and the drinks, so a great night for all. Natalie Gomez

SUPER SUNDAY Sunday, June 5 2016 turned out to be a crappy day and NOT Super Sunday. The rain, before and during late afternoon, cancelled the day. I was able to get in touch with most of the regulars with the help of Walt Kramer. George and Jean Morton called Sunday morning so I hope we got everybody about the cancellation.

TRIVIA TO FILL THE PAGE Ford, who made the first pick-up trucks, shipped them to dealers in crates that the new owners had to assemble using the crates as the beds of the trucks. The new owners had to go to the dealers to get them, thus they had to "pick-up" the trucks. Q: Where was the first drive-in restaurant?

A: Royce Hailey's Pig Stand opened in Dallas in 1921. Q: True or False? The 1953 Corvette came in white, red and black.

A: False. The 1953 'Vett's were available in one color, Polo White.
