My dream is to eventually become a chess coach. I hope that I can spread my love for the game to the people on the streets and get them to pick it up as a hobby for a start. During my free time, I enjoy listening to music and hanging out with my friends.

After losing my ability to play squash and bowling, I picked myself up and started to play chess. The intellectual stimulation was refreshing, and it helped me to stay grounded in life. Most people do not know I was once so fit that I actually defeated a national squash player!

One of my best discoveries is Chess. Being able to represent Singapore and do my country proud in something that I love is definitely a milestone in my life. The support from my friends, family and fellow Singaporeans will be a great motivation for me to train harder and achieve better results at the upcoming 8th ASEAN Para Games.

Chess is an intellectual game and it never fails to fascinate me. One has to visualise and anticipate the moves of the opponent in order to win, just like what John Nash advocates in his famous Game Theory. Before matches, I find a quiet corner and calm my senses. I find this effective as it allows me to clear my thoughts and concentrate on the impending match.

When I was in Secondary Three, my teacher saw playing chess as a way to instill confidence in me. He encouraged me to take this up competitively. Since then, I have been striving hard to represent Singapore at chess competitions, and looking forward to an opportunity to play against the top players in the world. Although I can’t see well, I would love to travel, explore dfferent sites and experience different cultures.
