The single crystal XRD for (IV) shows a trigonal structure (space group P3 2 21, Z = 3). In the dinuclear beryllate trianion the two Be atoms are bridged by a hydroxide anion. The Ca atoms are in a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal environment of seven O atoms, two of which are part of H 2 O molecules.
