Anyone that chooses to go and see Gwenn perform is in for a treat, not only does she belt out great renditions of Tina Turner, Aretha and countless Mowtown Hits, she also fills the room with her relentless energy and lovely warm personality. When you're in the room with Gwenn no one is safe from that motherly hug all the while with microphone in hand. We caught up with her to find out what its all about. So Gwenn having seen you perform many times it seems like you must have been gigging for many years, how long have you been in the industry ? Firstly can I just say what an absolute compliment that is but no, in answer to your 1st question I have only been in the music industry approximately 6 years. Really, so what was you doing before that ? Previously I was an auctioneer for Highams auctions in Stalybridge where we had several auctions a week inclusive of one sale being wholesale items catering equipment, electricals, motor vehicles etc, another being antiques and furnishings as well as house clearances then a most interesting sale in which we sold all lost property from various train stations and airways and police stolen recovered from across the whole country, so much so that I was approached by BBC radio 4 to do a program called Going Going Gone which proved to be highly successful. After so many years we then moved property over to TLH auctioneers Failsworth mc/r which was equally as successful. I then decided after many years of being an auctioneer that I would finally like to hang my hat up and try my hand at my other one true love.... And that was music. So you have a real feel for music, was it hard work to break into the gig scene? Yes it was hard work especially with coming into the music industry so late in life , it did help the fact that I had for many years been in the public eye so was used to crowds and dealing with people. It helped that I had a good rapour with the public also so I had no choice but to put every ounce of effort into

making my new vocation work, not only for me but for the publican. How did you come up with your set list ? I firstly went out and listened to what other artists were doing and chose to go down another road with 70,s 80,s pop style tracks and just watched the audiences reactions. I wanted to give them something new and to lift their spirits and it seemed to have the desired effect and I thought well if I can make my public happy then surely this was the new career for me because at the end of the day it's the people that are spending the money so it is them who are the most important. What music do you listen to in the car ? I listen to a vast array of music appreciating any good artist or musician from Chopan to Barbara Streisand and from Pavarotti to Aretha Franklin Where was your first gig ? My first ever gig was at Genting casino which was so nerve wracking that I had to have quite a few stiff ones to calm me down ! The Manager at the time Kath Barton got me the gig which as it happened turned out to be my most memorable gig because all the managers came from the other casinos to listen and I was an instant hit.

Tell us about the x-factor? Are you excited? What will you say if u get a famous Simon Cowell put down? Regarding the X factor I am so highly excited to have passed the 1st audition but then when I passed the 2nd one well u can only imagine! By the time it came to me doing the 3rd audition I was flying well high, especially having had an interview with the one and only Dermot O’leary If I got the famous put down from Simon Cowell I don't quite know how I would deal with that one apart from telling him that I would have his next baby instead then!

Whats your most memorable gig ? Any mishaps The only real mishap was at a club in Bradford where I was doing a charity night and there were quite a few Jamaicans in the audience who were appreciating all the Motown , soul and R n B . I was giving them so much that at the end of the gig they all couldn't help me enough carrying all my equipment to the car, but I was quite flustered being a lady on her own and by now it was quite dark outside, to cut a long story short I ended up locking my car keys in the boot having to call the AA out and join only for the AA man to turn up and me being surrounded by quite a few tall Jamaican guy. His face was a picture as was mine... 3 hours later hungry tired cold the AA man managed to rescue my keys as he could see the dilemma I was in wouldn't leave me; God bless him. Needless to say I won't be doing that mistake again in a hurry ha ha, All I now want to say is is that I hope I can continue on in my newish career bringing the happiness to people's lives because at the end of the day, it's the audience that matters, and if they are happy... Well then so am I xxx godbless xxx

The History of Father's Day (Sunday June 15th)History of Father's Day Festival as seen today is not even a hundred years old. Thanks to the hard work and struggle of Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd of Washington that just as we have set aside Mother's Day to honour mothers we have a day to acknowledge the important role played by the father. However, some scholars opine that Father's Day history is much older than we actually believe it to be. They say that the custom of honouring dad's on a special day is over 4,000 years old. There are a few more claims about the Father's Day origin about which we will learn in this page. Earliest History of Father's DayScholars believe that the origin of Father's Day is not a latest phenomenon, as many believe it to be. Rather they claim that the tradition of Father's Day can be traced in the ruins of Babylon. They have recorded that a young boy called Elmesu carved a Father's Day message on a card made out of clay nearly 4,000 years ago. Elmesu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life. Though there is no record of what happened to Elmesu and his father but the tradition of celebrating Father's Day remained in several countries all over the world. History of Father's Day in USModern version of Father's Day celebration originated in United States of America and thereafter the tradition spread in countries around the world. The world owes thanks to Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd a loving daughter from Spokane, Washington as it is because of her struggle that Father's Day saw the light of the day. The idea of Father's Day celebration originated in Sonora's mind when she per chance listened to Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Fairly mature at the age 27, Sonora pondered if there is a day to honour mother then why not for father? Sonora felt strongly for fathers because of the affection she received from her own father Mr William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran. Sonora's mother died while childbirth when she was just 16. Mr Smart raised the newborn and five other children with love and care.

Inspired by Ms Anna Jarvis's struggle to promote Mother's Day, Ms Dodd began a rigorous campaign to celebrate Father's Day in US. The Spokane Ministerial Association and the local Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) supported Sonora's cause. As a result Spokane celebrated its first Father's Day on June 19, 1910. Though there was initial hesitation the idea gained gradual popularity all over US and Fathers Day came to be celebrated in cities across the country. Looking at the heightened popularity of Father's Day in US, President Woodrow Wilson approved of this idea in 1916. President Calvin Coolidge too supported the idea of a national Father's Day in 1924 to, "establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children and to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations". After a protracted struggle of over four decades, President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father's Day in 1966. Then in 1972, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June. Sonora Smart Dodd was honored for her contribution at the World's Fair in Spokane in 1974. Mrs. Dodd died in 1978 at age 96. Present Day CelebrationsFather's Day Festival has gained amazing popularity over the years. The festival is considered to be a secular one and is celebrated not just in US but in a large number of countries around the world including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Norway and India though on different dates. World over people take Father's Day as an opportunity to thank father and pay tribute to them. On this day children present Father's Day cards not just to their dads but also grandfathers, uncles, stepfathers or any other person who commands the position of a father in their life. There is also a trend to present Father's Day gift to dad, most popular of all being necktie. Other popular gift being roses, the official Father's Day flower. Many people rue that the trend of presenting gifts to fathers has led to over commercialization of the festival relegating the noble idea behind Father's Day celebration.

Brazil 2014The most successful country in world football will hold this year's Fifa World Cup. Five times winners, Brazil promise an extravaganza that will have you samba-ring from here to Rio de Janeiro with the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Messi and more to feast your eyes on.Football fans will rarely have it so good. The 20th Fifa World Cup will start on 12th June, and culminate

in the “Estadio do Maracana” in Rio de Janeiro on the 13th July. With 31 countries qualifying for the finals, 64 matches will take place, being contested in twelve cities across the vast Brazilian landscape. At the time of writing, the initial squads have been picked by the managers involved. These will be paired down nearer the tournament. Roy Hodgson, England's manager, has made some bold decisions in opting for the youth of Ross Barkley from Everton and Luke Shaw of Southampton. Seasoned campaigners, such as Gerard, Rooney and Lampard are also in the mix. A blend of the old and the new could be just what England need to sustain a challenge for the greatest prize in football, the Fifa World Cup Trophy.

The Dutch will have a certain place in many English football fans sights due to the impending departure of their manager, Louis Van Gaal, to Manchester United. They'll undoubtedly be wondering how many of the Dutch stars will follow him to Old Trafford in time for next season.

Van Gaal will have to negotiate Group B, which also includes Spain. The two protagonists competed in the last World Cup Final in Johannesburg's Soccer City. Spain triumphed that day winning their first ever final 1-0.The chances of there being a new name engraved on the trophy are very slim. But there will be one new name appearing during this tournament. One remembers the Jabulani from South Africa in 2010. Now we'll have

endless debates and comments on the newcomer to the block, the Brazuca. Of course, I'm talking about the World Cup football. For you non-football watchers, incredibly, yes they have names. The world of marketing is never far away from the Greatest Show on Earth! But what do the bookies think of England's chances? Well, not a lot! Such notables as Brazil (the favourites), Argentina, and perennial challengers Germany and quite surprisingly Colombia occupy a better ranking than England. Some are even talking about Uruguay, the first winners of this tournament, having a real chance.Like many football fans I'm hoping the tournament is exciting, with a little dash of controversy included. You can't beat a Hand of God moment, or a Lampard disallowed effort to get the juices going. Of course, we'll have goal line technology for the first time so the likes of Lampard will never be disappointed again.South Africa's Vuvuzela may even make a comeback – let's hope not! But whatever happens, get in the spirit and enjoy the show. These moments only come around every four years.
