During the camp, the squad was taught a number of cheers and dances, as well as built on skills for stunting. The squad was evaluated throughout the week on material memorization, stunting skills and execution. Several members of the squad received individual awards throughout the week. Ethan Phillips, Chelsea John, Maddy Phillips and Jessica Keomany received Pin It Forward awards, which is recognition given to cheerleaders who display leadership, spirit and teamwork given by UCA Staff or other cheerleaders attending camp. Haylie Breth, Chelsea John, Madison Morisset, Matthew Patterson and Ethan Phillips were all selected as UCA All- American and they all have the opportunity to perform in London this December. The squad as a whole also received a number of awards and recognitions. The squad received Superior ribbons through- out the week’s evalua- tions. The squad was also awarded a Spirit Stick each day at camp. On the final day of camp, the squad per- formed and was evaluated on a Rally Routine (which included a camp dance routine incorporating stunts a pyramid), as well as a Game Day routine (which included a band chant performance, a situational sideline, a cheer and the VCHS fight song). Valley Center brought home awards that included first place in cheer and Game Day performance. The squad also received the Leader- ship Award, which is an award chosen by the other cheerleaders attending camp instead of the UCA staff. Each squad was asked what squad they would like to be on if they had to choose a different squad to be on and the Valley Center High School Cheerlead- ing squad received the most votes.
