Graham Blandy & Greg Holterman whom we had not seen at our meetings for some time. Presentation and Congratulations to David Tomlinson for achieving and receiving his Advanced Communicator Silver Award Certificate. Brian Paul received a ½ certificate for being 1/2 way through Competent Communicator Manual.

Something New About Me Denise Tomlinson told us she has 2 brothers & a sister/ Has happy memories of attending The Monkees concert in the Hordern Pavilion a pop band that released music under its originally between 1966 and 1970.

Toast

This evening the toast was acknowledging the theme of the evening “Lets Twist Again.” Jan Vecchio gave the toast to Chubby Checker an American singer-songwriter. He is widely known for popularizing the twist dance style, with his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard's R&B hit "The Twist".

Speaker 1: Muriel Jones. Title: “Famous Ladies.” Evaluator: Denise Tomlinson Muriel’s assignment was a Book Read choosing to read to us about Australian sprinter Betty Cuthbert, who starred at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and during her career has been a Four-time Olympic Gold medalist. In her mid thirties Betty was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and has been honoured for dedicating nearly 40 years to championing the needs of people living with MS. She looks back at her life being thankful for all of her life experiences. Speaker 2: Deanna Morpurgo Title: “R U O K?” Evaluator: Steve Barber Deanna began asking ‘Are you OK? Too many people within our community are affected by stress. So much so that stress today can be so intense that too many people commit suicide. Mentioning that 2200 Australians commit suicide each year. * * *

Speeches of the Evening

Speaker 3: Frank Elmes Evaluator: Jan Vecchio Title: “Blue Gum Forest.” Frank took us back to when he was 15yrs old going on a camping trip with the Senior Scouts to Blue Gum Forest. Taking a steam train from Central to Megalong Valley arriving 10pm then hiking down to to Perry’s Lookdown & camping there for the rest of the night. Next morning continuing their hike from Perrys Lookdown into the Blue Gum Forest followed a clear steep track. Describing the landscape, magic sounds & smell of forest which 2 boys stretching their arms around a tree their finger tips could not meet. All too soon he was on his way back to his home and reality of his daily life. Wonderful Memories of Natures Magic that have lasted a life time.

Speaker 2: Deanna Morpurgo Continued: Then Deanna demonstrated for us all how to practice Nadi Shodhana – which is a Alternate Nostril Breathing Technique. Sit in a comfortable upright position. Place the index and middle finger of your right hand on your forehead between your eyebrows. You will use your right thumb to close your right nostril and your right ring finger to close your left nostril (be gentle with the pressure used to close the nostrils). Note: 1 nostril will always be open and 1 will always be closed. INHALE THROUGH LEFT NOSTRIL Close left nostril EXHALE THROUGH RIGHT NOSTRIL INHALE THROUGH RIGHT NOSTRIL Close right nostril EXHALE THROUGH LEFT NOSTRIL REPEAT 6- 10 TIMES . * focus on keeping the breath smooth, deep and rhythmic. Caution: not fun to practice if you have a cold or severely blocked nostrils!

He learned to stand tall with living through all his doubts and fears with separation then achieving having completed the many exams and assignments. In his final exams he passed with three high distinctions & two distinctions. Out of 600 enrolled trainees 437 proud men & women graduated on Friday 24/08/2012 in Goulburn. Constable Andrew Mills is now stationed at Manly Police Station.

Reg explained how the Leadership Manual is used within the different roles that members take in learning Communication Skills during our roles at the Club Meetings.

Toastmasters Club reimburse members, who register as NBTC members for the Semi-Annual

District Conference in November 2012, and/or the District 70 Annual conference in May 2013, to the value

of $50.00 per registration.” Moved by Kathy Stewart; seconded by Keren Snell.

Andrew Russek had a great time. He drove from Parramatta and I looking forward to another invitation to come back.
