However, 18 months ago, I stumbled across it and I'm now really glad I did. Our Dairy Team has just spent 2 days locked in our board room with Ray McCreadie conducting a LEAN review of our enterprise. Some of it wasn't easy to hear "95% of what you do is ...'waste'" - rubbish we all thought - but by the end of the day 2 .... it might be more! We identified our problems. Which was much harder than you would think, but comparing our CFP to other similar businesses within our discussion group, we identified opportunity areas which stimulated a wide ranging team discussion and these unleashed a series of others whilst identifying the root causes (which changed everyone's perception). We have then built a "Problem Charter" and a "Solution Board" which sought volunteers for responsibilities to deliver a plan which was then designed by the team. What we have ended up with is a plan designed and bought into by all members of our team that will tackle all the stakeholders problems. I realise there is a lot of Chat here but in essence our plan has identified ways of increasing next year's profit by £188,000 at the forecasted lower milk price. A challenge yes but a challenge I now share with my team and genuinely see the route to delivery. Whilst this meeting will show what we've done, as the theory of Lean was covered at an earlier monitor farm meeting, the process is relevant to any business or individual, not necessarily involved in Dairy. It will be a challenge to get through everything between 1100 and 1400 hours however keeping within the spirit of Lean, the meeting will start at 1100 at the Kings Arms in Ballantrae. To book a place contact Sharon on 07876-706391 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there.
