Member Spotlight
Maureen Fuller – Loss Prevention Field Manager, Big Y Foods
In this edition we would like to highlight one of our Chapter’s and Region’s volunteer leaders.
When most of us entered into the Security field it was easy to identify the other players as they all looked the same - middle aged bald guys.
Well thank goodness that has changed, our Associa-tion is much more diverse than in years past and we now have an organized effort in growing a specific sec-tor of membership – Woman in Security.
The ASIS Women in Security’s (WIS) mission is to provide support and assistance to women in the security industry as well as to inspire those interested in entering the securi-ty industry through tailored programming and mentoring. This brings us to our own WIS mentor for Region 5F, ARVP Maureen Fuller. Maureen’s career started with Big Y Foods in 1989 where she began as a full time associate. In ear-ly 1998 she transferred into the Loss Prevention Department in the role of Store Detective where her responsibilities were the identification and apprehension of shoplifters through undercover surveillance. Back in 1998 there were very few females in this role; and that actually led to some of her successes as the bad guys didn’t immediately recognize her as a member of the security team. Early that next year she took over the leadership and supervision of the Loss Prevention Store Detective group, which at the time was almost solely staffed by men, and brought their effectiveness in reducing losses to the organization to a new high. In 2000 Maureen was promoted to Loss Prevention Specialist where she was one of two individuals in that responsibility, and the first female in the organization’s history to be responsible for the investigations and interrogations of all internal cases. The department was reorganized in 2007, and Maureen was promoted to her present position of Loss Prevention Field Manager. Her duties in this role cover all of the opera-tional Asset Protection responsibilities for the organization. To further her professional development, Maureen completed her LPC Certification to include areas of study in Lead-ership and Business Principles, Loss Prevention Operations, Crisis Management, Safety and Risk Management, and Supply Chain Security. Along the way, Maureen recognized the importance of giving back and in 2007 she joined ASIS International. She soon started her first Volunteer Leadership Position in ASIS as the Secretary for the Western Massachusetts Chapter. She went on to serve as Vice Chair and then Chair of the Chapter bringing increases in membership and monthly Chap-ter meetings that continually brought value to the membership. Just when she thought she would be able to relax she accepted her present position of ARVP of Region 5F with a special focus on Women in Security (WIS) , as well as being appointed a seat on the ASIS National WIS Council as Chair of the membership commit-tee.
