Model: Chronological Order Essay (Process)Organization of a Five-Paragraph

Paragraph 1: Introduction. Get the reader's attention. Introduce your main idea and controlling statement. State the three main points that you intend to discuss. (A five paragraph essay will contain three main points.)

Paragraph 2: State the first main point (topic sentence). State the supporting detail(s).

Paragraph 3: State the second main point (topic sentence). State the supporting detail(s).

Paragraph 5: Conclusion. Restate your main idea. Restate your main points. Leave the reader with a good impression.

Three Keys to organize a process essay:

1- Discuss the steps in your process in the order in which they occur.Divide the steps into separate paragraphs where natural breaks or

groups of steps occur. For that you can use the model of the Chronological order:

I. Introductory paragraphII. Body paragraphs (3)III. Concluding paragraph

2- Write a thesis statement that names the process and indicates time order.

3- Use chronological order signal words and phrases to indicate the time sequence.
