Business Builders Breakfasts are an opportunity for our members to network with other business professionals in the Jasper area. The Breakfasts are sponsored by Chamber members and hosted at the location of their choice. This event was designed to help our members connect with one another in an informal setting. Everyone receives the oppor-tunity to give a brief overview of their business/organization to the crowd and then the sponsor gets the floor to speak about what aspect of their business/organization that they would like the audience to know about. If your business/organization would like to sponsor a Business Builders Breakfast for 2015, please contact the Chamber office to set one up. If you are unable to sponsor a breakfast then please try to attend at least one, you might make a new contact.

The Chamber realizes that not everyone is able to attend a morning event and would like to try and accommodate as many of our members as possible. In the works are two new networking events, a Lunch and Learn and a Business After Hours. These events will be sponsored by Chamber members. If you are interested in sponsoring any of the network-ing events please contact the Chamber office. Lunch and Learn: A lunch networking meeting where Chamber members may enjoy a delicious lunch, network with other members and learn about different businesses in the area. Business After Hours: An after hours networking event usually from around 5:30 p.m. until about 7:00 p.m. Chamber members may mingle with others and network while enjoying refreshments.

Some items are in high demand at the food bank and you may not realize it. Because they aren’t es-sentials, the staff doesn’t publicly ask for them. A survey on Reddit.com asked volunteers what items people would be most appreciative of and listed below are some of the suggestions given. If you’re
looking for an easy way to help out, pick some of these up while shopping and drop them off at your local food bank.
1. Spices. Think about it. People who rely on the food bank eat a lot of canned food, rice, oatmeal, white bread, etc. They love spices. Seasoned salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, nutmeg, all-spice, oregano, basil and so on. 2. Chocolate. People don’t need it, but think about being in their shoes and how nice it would be to be given a chocolate bar or brownie mix along with your essentials. 3. Toiletries. Grocery stores are great about donating surplus or unsold food, but they have no reason to donate toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Food stamps often don’t cover these. 4. Canned meats and jerky. This isn’t true of all food banks, but some struggle to give users enough protein. 5. Crackers and tortillas. They don’t spoil and everybody likes them. 6. Baby toiletries. Diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, baby shampoo, baby soap, baby food, bottles, etc. 7. Soup packets. Sometimes you look at rice, beans, instant potatoes, and cans of vegetables and think, “What do I make with this?” Hearty soup is a complete meal. 8. Socks. From a former homeless person: “Socks mean the world to you. They keep you warm, make you feel like you have something new, and just comfort you.” 9. Canned fruit other than pineapple. Food banks get a lot of pineapple donated. Their clients love it when other kinds of fruit are available. And remember! Food banks love cash donations because it allows them to buy whatever is needed.

The staff of the emergency room of Christus/Jasper Memorial Hospital was pre-
sented an award for it’s recent accomplishment of breaking the record in time it
took a patient to actually see a doctor after walking into the ER. The award came
from Christus Health Systems and is known as “The shortest wait time from door
to provider”.
A special ceremony was held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 dedicating Recreational
Road 255 as Sam Rayburn Parkway. Brenda Job along with several others were
instrumental in making this happen.

The Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce would also like to thank the
City of Jasper for providing the trolley, electr ical help and sanitation. Mr. Cleveland
and Mr. Barnes for br inging the youth helpers. City of Jasper Police Department for
providing security and Wanda Brister with the D.A.R.E car. Last but not least our volun-
teers, Terry Napper with Lakes Area Hospice, Jennifer Gobert with River City Hospice,
Keith Stephens with Campbell Global, Marcus Henslee with Auto Salon, and
Wade Womack with Jasper Oil Company/C3 Oil.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for the day and we are so pleased with the
turn out of the festival. We had some wonderful entertainment from Jasper County Cow-
boy Church Band and One Heart. Plus the amazing ceremony from Honor and Remember
of Texas.
