Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2.
This term we are engaged in our teaching and learningprograms, Shining Stars and Music Programs. Huge marathoncongratulations to Rick Vosila, President Strathfield Rotary, whoran the toughest marathon course in Australia- StamfordFinancial Hilly Marathon. Rick ran for 7 hours throughwilderness and up mountains to raise money for ChalmersRoad School students. A big thank you to you, your family andfriends who donated to Rick’s Run. We very much appreciateRick’s efforts and think he is our Chalmers Road Superman!!
Students from Strathfield Girls HS and St Patricks College areagain supporting students’ programs this term across theschool and our students love this interaction.
Thank you to the parents who came to the Chalmers RoadP&C meeting that was held on Monday 7 April. We finalisedorganisation for our Mother’s Day Stall and wrapping of theMother’s Day gifts. A very big thank you to our busy mumsand the lovely donations for the raffle. It all made for a verysuccessful Mothers’ Day stall and raffle. All our students lovedthe experience of coming and selecting their gifts and we hopeour mums all had a lovely Mother’s Day and enjoyed theirsurprise. Our next P& C meeting is Monday 18 June andfollowing this we will have a morning tea where our newDirector, Educational Leadership, Maria Serafim, is lookingforward to meeting our school community and staff.
We have just about finished renovating our new student kitchenand continue to thank Bunnings Ashfield for their support. Welook forward to extending our cooking and life skills programsacross the school in the new kitchen and have some excitingplans for Term 3 with our students and families.

Important Notice
If your child feels unwell, please keep them home from schooland consult your doctor.
Currently a number of students are being sent to school whenthey are sick. If your child is sick do not send them to school asthey pose a risk to both other students and staff. Our staff andstudents are picking up germs from others who are sick. Thishas an impact on teaching and learning times.
The school has a number of students with complex medicalissues that should not be exposed to students who are sick andwho should have been kept at home.

Green Class
Welcome back everyone! All the staff and students of GreenClass were happy to be back for Term 2, especially because wehave welcomed a new student to the class! Throughout Term2 we will continue to participate in Rhythm Village lessons aswell as dance. We have started cooking once a week, and thestudents are learning to follow a visual procedure to make toastwith either vegemite or jam. Of course we are also completinglots of hard work in the other syllabus areas, with the onlychange this term being we will be studying Australian historyinstead of science. The term has gotten off to a great start, andwe can’t wait to see what the rest of the term has in store forus!
Sophie and Theo
Yellow Class
Yellow class have enjoyed learning about Australia andexplored some of the great natural and man made landscapes
such as Uluru, The Sydney Harbour Bridge and The OperaHouse. We looked at various types of Australian Art works.The students enjoyed using a template to create beautiful dotpaintings which are displayed in the classroom. Yellow Classare continuing to work towards independently completing deskwork activities such as matching, reading, spelling and makingrequests using visuals.
Red Class
Red Class has had a great start to the Term! All students havesettled into new class routines and adapted to a change ofstaff. This Term students have focused on three text typesin Literacy, including comic strips, storybooks and recipes.Students compared and contrasted each text type, engagedin role play activities and created comic strips and recipes.In Mathematics, Red Class engaged in Pattern and Algebraactivities, Number, Area and Time through a combination ofgroup work and sensory activities. In History, students exploredevents that shaped Australia and engaged with a variety ofinstruments while exploring select countries in the ‘Fifa WorldCup’ as part of the ‘Rhythm Village’ Music program. Red Classcontinue to work hard in all areas of their learning and aredeveloping social skills needed to build friendships with oneanother.

Blue Class
Happy Term 2 parents and students! Blue Class has settledinto school routine and are enjoying all of our new and excitingthemes. Throughout Term 2 we are exploring the world duringRhythm Village looking at new instruments and songs. Blueclass particularly enjoyed our focus on Africa, where we playedalong to the Lion King songs. During Term 2, we havecommenced our letter of the week focus, looking at patternsand area and exploring a range of text types including recipesand comics. Blue class have commenced work on events thatshaped Australia and the students are excited by viewingimages of the Sydney Opera house and the Sydney harbourbridge. We have had a great start to the term and will continueto work hard and enjoy each day.

Brooklyn and Sarah
Orange Class
Orange class are exploring Ancient China, focusing on theChinese New year and the Chinese dragon. We have looked atthe food and listened to music and engaged in cultural dancesthe highlight has been enjoying rice sensory play. Orange classis also working on time and focusing on activities that we do atcertain time throughout the day.
Pink Class
Welcome back to Term 2! Pink Class has settled in very wellto all new classroom routines and are enjoying all the newconcepts taught. Throughout Term 2 we are exploring theworld of imagery and real life, through the book Alice inWonderland. During Term 2, we focussed on recognising lettersounds some sight words, repeating patterns and the topic oftime. Pink class have commenced work on The Asian WorldChina and Events that made Australia. The students are excitedby viewing images of the different foods that the Asianimmigrants have introduced into Australian cuisine. We havehad a great start to the term and will continue to work hard andenjoy each day.

Magenta Class
Magenta Class have had a fantastic and active term so far.Students have been working hard in English, focusing onrecounts of their daily activities and looking at procedural texts.The class have enjoyed exploring cooking lessons linked to thePDH unit of Healthy Living, making items such as fruit salad,porridge and vegetable pasta. The class have also enjoyedspending time with St Pats boys on Wednesday afternoons
playing board games, bowling and ball games. We look forwardto the exciting things remaining for Term 2.

Banksia Class
In the last week of Term 1, Banksia Class participated in anAnzac Day ceremony. Students also created an artworkdepicting a soldier playing the bugal at sunrise. This involveddifferent techniques including sponge painting, line work witha ruler and marker, and manipulating a paintbrush to spreadacrylic paint inside a shaped template.
In Term 2, Banksia Class continues to have weekly RhythmVillage Music lessons every Friday morning. Students play avariety of instruments including the guitar, drums, singingbowls,tapping sticks, Japanese gong, maracas andtambourine. We welcome our Music teacher into the classroomeach week by singing the ‘Hello’ song and perform withstudents from Kangaroo Paw Class.
On Mondays, Banksia Class and Kangaroo Paw Class jointogether for a Dance lesson with our Dance teacher Ana. Eachweek we explore different ways to move our body to music andhave used props such as sponges and large pieces of fabric toconvey our movement.
We send our best wishes to Julie, our Student LearningSupport Officer (SLSO) for Banksia Class on Wednesdays andThursdays, as she is on leave for the remainder of this term. Wewill welcome different SLSO’s into our classroom each week tosupport our educational progams.
Kangaroo Paw Class
Kangaroo Paw has had a busy Term 2 so far! We haveparticipated in a range programs including Rhythm Village witha fun theme of the Fifa World Cup 2018, listening to anthemsand music from around the world. We have also been enjoyingdance with Anna, exploring performance skills and compositionwith stimulus such as auditory, visual, tactile, and kinaestheticand appreciating dance works of art. In English this term we

are learning about text types such as comics, and enjoyeddressing up as characters and creating dialogue in our owncomic strips. In our Science and Geography unit, we have beenlearning about Earth and Solar System such as the features orlandscapes and landforms from Australia and throughout theworld and comparing and contrasting planets.
Emma and Grace
Waratah Class
Waratah Class are happy and excited to be back at school.Students have settled into familiar routines well and are workinghard in all aspects of school. In English we are learning abouttext types and how different texts are used to portray differentmeanings. In Mathematics we are practicing our number andtime skills and in Science and Geography we are learning allabout Earth and the Solar System. Waratah Class are lookingforward to using a range of practical and interactive learningmaterial to enhance their skills and a looking forward to a funand busy term.
Wattle Class
Wattle Class have come back to school this term motivated andexcited to learn. We have many exciting programs commencingin Term 2 and some that are continuing on from Term 1including Rhythm Village music programs, Drama and Dancelessons and whole stage Gardening programs. This term inEnglish we are learning about different text types and howmeaning is differentiated between different texts. InMathematics we are continuing our work on Number and Time;students are particularly enjoying the many tangible activitiespresented to them in these lessons. In Science and Geographythe students are studying Earth and the Solar System and arelearning about the many different and famous landscapes withinAustralia and around the world. Term 2 is a busy but excitingterm and all our staff and students are looking forward to thechallenge!

It is important that the school has up to date details in theevent that your child becomes ill at school. Children oftenbecome distressed when we are unable to contact theirparents. We ask that all parents advise the school of anychanges as soon as they happen. This will enable us tocheck that all information that we have is current for allfamilies in our school
Children’s Master Chef
Thanks to Variety on Wednesday, 11th April five luckystudents from Chalmers Road, along with the Principal,Michelle Davies, were fortunate enough to participate ina recorded production of Celebrity Chef with six otherstudents from Wangee Park School with Justin Northwhich will be shown at the upcoming Variety Ball.
Variety – the Children’s charity that support children andfamilies who are facing many challenges throughsickness, disadvantage or living with a disability.
Under the watchful instruction of chef Justin North, ourstudents chopped, peeled, sautéed, baked and platedup some sumptuous and delicious fish for entréeaccompanied with a warm salad a side of vegetables.

Mother’s Day Raffle & Stall
A special thank you to the P&C for running the Mother’sDay Stall. Thank you to everyone who donated, boughttickets and or purchased items from the Mother’s DayStall. With all of your support we were able to raise over$600 for our
school.
Rick’s Run
He did it! Fundraising for Chalmers Road School, RickVosila, the president of Strathfield Rotary completed theiconic Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon on HamiltonIsland.
Thank you to our families, friends and local community forall of your support.
