Problem: Youth Uneployment in Slovenia

Target group: 15-29 16,5% of youth in this group are unemployed 30% are looking for first employment 43% have been looking for a job for over a

year

Causes Inconsistency between the needs of the job market and the

education structure Social sciences are the most popular course, too many

graduates for the job market Lack of science graduates (IT, engineering, mathematics,

physics...) Not enough students and companies make use of

scholarships: the student gets a stipend from the company and employment after graduation

Lack of work experience Recession: companies closing down or downsizing their

staff

Consequences Not being able to live on your own: 70% of people

between 18-34 still live at home with at least one parent

Postponing graduation from university: 37% of

graduates in 2011 were between 25-29 years old

Brain drain: young, promising students are leaving the

country

Settling down later in life: the average age of a bride is

28 and 31 for the groom; having children at about the same

average age
