limits.” - Nigel Williamson, The Times

Adrian Freedman and Ravi are both master practitioners of Music of the Spirit. Ravi plays the 21-string African kora

harp, and Adrian the ancient Japanese shakuhachi flute. They both have been immersed in shamanic rituals of the

Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon. Their music touches upon a broad range of styles and influences to create a fresh

and exquisite sound. A transcendental journey of musical meditation.

“It’s hard not to like the sweet music on display here, showing a quiet sense of spirituality and a

sense of reverence for the feminine aspects of God, including Kuan Yin and Saraswati.”

Dan Cowan

Presenting her long-awaited third album, In Her Name, for Malimba Records, Sudha continues to radiate light and

love with a collection of seven extended length Buddhist and Hindu chants that express devotion to the Divine

Feminine. Gentle, feather-light vocals are Sudha’s calling card, and this album will uplift you with her ethereal

chanting that floats through each of these serene chants. The musical arrangements bear a subtlety that allows

Sudha’s vocals to be a central presence.

Annual Companions’ Day for supporters of Chalice Well

Companions Day 2015 | The Sacred Arts of Islam

Saturday 6 June | 9:30 am to 3:30 pm

Emma designs gardens with a fundamentally spiritual and holistic outlook, undertaking them for

private clients and public institutions, both in the U.K. and abroad. She specialises mainly in

Islamic gardens, focusing on contemporary interpretations of traditional principles.

She is Senior Tutor on the post-graduate Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts (VITA) Programme at

The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, London and published two books The Art of the Islamic

Garden and ‘Underneath Which Rivers Flow’, The Symbolism of the Islamic Garden.

Emma Clark

Tasleema Alam

Tasleema is an artist and educator who specialises in Islamic and Oriental patterns. She also

teaches geometry as part of her work. Respecting profoundly the universality of number and

proportion, designs come alive to her when the first flourish of paint goes on. Tasleema’s preferred

mediums are water colour and gold but she also works on architectural mediums, like ceramics and

glass.

Islam is the faith she was born into, and Tasleema says her ‘readings of the Quran encouraged me

to embrace Faith as a universal instinct of humankind. All paths directing to a Universal Truth – the

Eternally True; the Sacred and the Enlightened - that is what I wished to express in my art.’

John Martineau

John is a architectural consultant, tutor of sacred geometry and publisher who has published more

than 50 books on all subjects related to the modern sciences and ancient arts.

This year we are joined by three outstanding, international speakers and specialists in the

fields of sacred geometry, paradise gardens and Islamic art...

Companions’ Day is the first of 5 days exploring the sacred arts of Islam, beginning with an art exhibition

held in our Meeting Room, offering Companions a chance to view the artwork on display before the

exhibition opens to the public in the afternoon.

participate | create | contemplate At the same time we plan to offer opportunities to experience the sacred arts of Islam through calligraphy, geometric

form and music and how all these aspects can all come together as a coherent expression of faith and a reflection of

the beauty of the world around us.

Helping us curate, organise and interpret | Tom Bree Tom is a geometer-artist, teacher and writer and resides in the beautiful medieval city of

Wells in the UK. Having been a trained musician, Tom became interested in sacred art and

architecture during his twenties via travels to major spiritual centres in Asia, Africa and

Central America.

Though these pilgrimage-journeys he has also come to recognise the beauty and significance

of his own indigenous sacred art forms and is currently researching for a PhD in which he is

looking at the underlying geometric design of English Gothic cathedrals.

Tom trained in Christian and Islamic geometric design and wood parquetry at the Princes

School of Traditional Arts in London and now teaches both subjects there for the M.A course

and in classes for the public.

"Geometry is the governing principle of our earthly world as well as the wider cosmos. For this

reason it has been recognised as significant within many different religious traditions. Through a

practice of geometry and an awareness of its symbolic dimension, the Geometer aspires

to become a bridge of 'knowing' between the inner world of Archetypes and the outer world of

their manifestations. Thus the Geometer is the midwife who brings forth the cosmos in

emulation of God 'the Divine Geometer' who brings forth the Universe in each new moment."

'Sarah Curtis's music is absolutely beautiful' - Beth Orton

Sarah was born in Somerset UK and has been musical as far back as she can remember. She composed her first piano piece at 8 years old, and composed her first song at 12. She had formal piano and singing lessons for many years, which helped with her music. At 16 she was given a guitar for her birthday and started to teach herself chords… picking this up quickly she would write a lot of her songs with it.

Through the years Sarah has been in various bands and music projects. Making her first cd 'clear' in 1998. In 2004 she recorded another album called 'Simple Magic' and an EP '3 steps of ‘Magic’ and her final one to date is ‘Talking Angel’ in 2011. All of which are available to buy at performances. Sarah has performed at Glastonbury Festival, Ely Festival, QEH London, Chard Women's festival of music, to name a few.

‘Carole’s music goes straight to the soul, and brings awareness of our inner

process of awakening. A true gift of spirit.’ - Nancy Shipley Rubin

The songs Carol writes reflect the “Aha‘s” she’s experienced through her personal and spiritual growth. Beginning in the mid/late 70’s Carol began to expand her singing experiences from club scenes to concerts, conferences, seminars, workshops, churches, prisons, living rooms, benefits such as for Green Peace, Amnesty International, women’s shelters and so forth.

During her performances, audiences do seem to enjoy and be inspired by her lyrics and songs as well as the humour she can bring to the stage. Carol has had a long and full life with the common thread running through it of her singing, playing the guitar and trying to make people laugh since childhood – and starting in 1970, original songs, when she wrote her first one.

creating this wonderful CD. I am about to buy another copy for my son so he can share it with his

friend in New Zealand.” - Judy

Tom Brennan and Neil H were two heart felt souls travelling on individual paths. At similar moments in time an event

of emotional strife would befall them both.

Universal destiny has brought them together to share their powerful journey of healing and creative intensity. Through

their connection with music they have become “SoulWeavers”, who will take you on a beautiful journey to stir the soul
