இலங்கை மாணவர் ைல்வி நிதியத்தின் உறுப்பினர்ைள், நிதியத்தின் நலன் விரும்பிைள் அகனவருக்கும் வணக்ைம்.

எமது ைல்வி நிதியம் 25 வருட வவள்ளிவிழாகவ நிகைவுவெய்துவைாண்டு 27 ஆவது ஆண்டில் ைாலடி எடுத்துகவக்ைிைது. தங்ைள் ஆதரவினால் வதாடர்ந்தும் இயங்கும் நிதியத்தின் 2014 - 2015 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்ைான அைிக்கைகய இங்கு ெமர்ப்பிக்ைின்றைாம்.

26tJ Mz;Lg; nghJf;$l;lk; நிதியத்தின் தகலவர் திருமதி அருண். விஜயராணியின் தகலகமயில் 26 ஆவது ஆண்டுப்வபாதுக்கூட்டம் 16-11-2014 ஆம் திைதி ஞாயிற்றுக்ைிழகம வமல்பனில் Vermont South Community House மண்டபத்தில் நகடவபற்ைது. இக்கூட்டத்தில் 2014 - 2016 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்ைான புதிய பரிபாலன ெகப ஏைமனதாை வதரிவுவெய்யப்பட்டது.

இலங்கையில் மாணவர் நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு - தைவல் அமர்வு - ஒன்றுகூடல் நிைழ்ச்ெிைள்: 2015 வபப்ரவரி : இலங்கையில் வடக்குஇ ைிழக்கு மாைாணங்ைளிலும் வடறமல் மாைாணத்திலும் ைல்வி நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபறும் மாணவர்ைளுக்ைாை தைவல் அமர்வும் ஒன்று கூடலும் நடத்தப்பட்டுஇ நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவும் வழங்ைப்பட்டது.

tTdpah khtl;lk; 14-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி வவுனியா மாவட்ட மாணவர்ைளுக்ைான நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு வவுனியா றவப்பங்குளத்தில் அகமந்த பணிமகனயில் அதன் தகலவர் திரு. த. ைறணஸ் தகலகமயில் நடந்தது. நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபற்ை முதல் மாணவியும் தற்வபாழுது வவனியா கெவப்பிரைாெ வித்தியாலய அதிபராை பணியாற்றுபவருமான திருமதி ைிருஷ்ணறவணி நந்தன் ைலந்துவைாண்டு உகரயாற்ைினார். நிதியத்தின் உதவியினால் தன்னால் ஒரு பாடொகல அதிபராை வந்திருக்ை முடிந்திருக்ைிைது என்றும் அதகன முன்மாதிரியாைக்வைாண்டு தற்ைாலத்தில் நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபறும் மாணவர்ைளும் ைல்வியில் முன்றனைி நல்ல நிகலக்கு வரறவண்டும் என்றும் வலியுறுத்தினார்.

வவுனியா மாவட்டத்திலிருந்து நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபற்ை இரண்டு மாணவர்ைள் இந்த ஆண்டு (2015) வதாடக்ைத்திலிருந்து வைாழும்பு பல்ைகலக்ைழைத்திற்கு வதரிவாைியுள்ளனர்.

aho;g;ghz khtl;lk; 16-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி யாழ்ப்பாணம் ைண்டி வதீியில் அகமந்துள்ள ெிறுவர் அபிவிருத்தி நிகலயத்தின் பணிமகனயில் நிதியத்தின் யாழ். மாவட்ட வதாடர்பாளர்ைளுடன் ெந்திப்பு நகடவபற்ைது. இச்ெந்திப்பில் உதவி வபறும் மாணவர்ைளின் தாய்மாரின் வங்ைிக்ைணக்கு விபரங்ைள் ெரிபார்க்ைப்பட்டது.

17-02-2015 ஆம் திைதியன்று யாழ்ப்பாணம் அரியாகலயில் ெரஸ்வதி ெனெமூை நிகலய மண்டபத்தில் யாழ். மாவட்ட மாணவர்ைளின் ெந்திப்பு தைவல் அமர்வு நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு நிைழ்ச்ெி ைாகல 10 மணி முதல் மாகல 4 மணிவகரயில் நகடவபற்ைது.

நிதியத்தின் வதாடக்ை ைாலத்தில் யாழ். மாவட்ட ைண்ைாணிப்பாளராை இயங்ைிய முன்னாள் பிரதம ைல்வி அதிைாரியும் ெீர்மிய ( ஊழரவளநடiவப வுநயஉhநெ ) ஆெிரியருமான திருமதி றைாைிலா மறைந்திரன் பிரதம அதிதியாைக் ைலந்துவைாண்டு உகரயாற்ைினார். மாணவர்ைளும் தாய்மாரும் மற்றும் ெிறுவர் அபிவிருத்தி நிகலய அலுவலர்ைளும் ெில முன்னாள் ஆெிரியர்ைளும் இந்நிைழ்வில் ைலந்துவைாண்டனர்.

நிதியத்தின் உறுப்பினர் திரு. வெந்தில் (வமல்பன்) அவர்ைளின் ஏற்பாட்டில் சுழிபுரத்திலிருந்து வருகை தந்த அன்பர் திரு. ைண்ணதாென் அவர்ைள் நிைழ்ச்ெிகய வடீிறயா ஒளிப்பதிவுவெய்து இகணயத்தின் ஊடாை வழங்ைியிருந்தார். இதன் இகணப்பு ஏற்ைனறவ நிதியத்தின் உறுப்பினர்ைளுக்கு அனுப்பிகவக்ைப்பட்டுள்ளது.

யாழ். மாவட்டத்திலிருந்து நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபற்ை மாணவி வெல்வி வ. அன்னலட்சுமி யாழ். பல்ைகலக்ைழைத்திற்கு வதரிவாைியுள்ளார். இவருக்கு உதவிய அன்பர் திருமதி துளெி ைிருஷ்ணகுமார் முருகையா (வமல்பன்). வெல்வி நிருத்திைா என்ை மாணவி நிதியத்தின் உதவிவபற்று தமது பல்ைகலக்ைழை இறுதியாண்டில் படிக்ைின்ைார். இம்மாணவிக்கு உதவும் அன்பர்: திரு. முருைதாென் (வமல்பன்) fpspnehr;rp khtl;lk; 18-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி ைிளிவநாச்ெி மாவட்டத்தில் ைிளிவநாச்ெி மைா வித்தியாலயத்தில் பயிலும் நிதியத்தின் உதவிவபறும் மாணவர்ைளுடனான ெந்திப்பும் நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவும் அதிபர் திரு. பங்ையற்வெல்வன் தகலகமயில் நடந்தது. td;dp khtl;lk; 19-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி வன்னி மாவட்டத்தில் உகடயார்ைட்டு, விசுவமடு, புதுக்குடியிருப்பு பிரறதெங்ைளில் 2009 இறுதிக்ைட்ட றபாரினால் பாதிக்ைப்பட்ட 30 புதிய மாணவர்ைளின் நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவும் குைிப்பிட்ட மாணவர்ைளின் தாய்மாருடனான ெந்திப்பும் நகடவபற்ைது. இம்மாணவர்ைகள ைண்ைாணிக்கும் நிதியத்தின் யாழ். மாவட்ட வதாடர்பு நிறுவனமான ெிறுவர் அபிவிருத்தி நிகலய அலுவலர்ைளும் ைலந்துவைாண்டனர். ெில தாய்மார் தமது வாழ்வாதாரத்திற்கும் உதவுமாறும் றைாரிக்கை விடுத்தனர். இது வதாடர்பாை நிதியத்தின் உறுப்பினர் ெட்டத்தரணி திருமதி நிறவதனா அச்சுதன் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்ை முன்வந்துள்ளார். mk;ghiw khtl;lk; 20-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி அம்பாகை மாவட்டத்தில் ைல்முகன வபரிய நீலாவகண விஷ்ணு மைா வித்தியாலயத்தில் மாணவர் ைண்ைாணிப்பாளர் அதிபர் திருமதி ெிவமணி நற்குணெிங்ைம் தகலகமயில் நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு நிைழ்ச்ெி நகடவபற்ைது.

இவ்வித்தியாலயத்திலிருந்து ைல்விகய வதாடர்ந்து நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபற்ை மாணவி வெல்வி ைி. ஹர்ெினி தற்வபாழுது வதன் ைிழக்கு பல்ைகலக்ைழைத்தில் தமது உயர் ைல்விகய வதாடருைின்ைார் இவருக்கு உதவிய அன்பர்: திருமதி தமயந்தி றொமஸ்ைந்தன் (வமல்பன்) திருறைாணமகல மாவட்டம்

21-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி திருறைாணமகலயில் நிலாவவளியில் அகமந்த (VOVCOD) பணிமகனயில் அதன் தகலவர் திரு. த. ைறணஸ் தகலகமயில் நடந்த மாணவர் ெந்திப்பு நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு நிைழ்ச்ெியில் வவுனியா மாவட்ட மாணவர் ைண்ைாணிப்பாளர்ைளும் இகணந்துவைாண்டனர். இம்மாவட்டத்கதச் றெர்ந்த நிதியத்தின் உதவிவபறும் மாணவி வெல்வி ஏ. நளினி என்பவர் றபராதகனப் பல்ைகலக்ைழைத்தில் வவளிவாரி பட்டப்படிப்பிகன றமற்வைாள்ைின்ைார். இவருக்கு உதவும் அன்பர் திரு. வல. முருைபூபதி (வமல்பன்) fpof;F gy;fiyf;fof khztu;fs; ைிழக்கு பல்ைகலக் ைழைத்தில் பயின்ைவாறு நிதியத்தின் உதவிகய வபற்ை 19 மணவர்ைளும் ைடந்த (2014) ஆண்டு இறுதியில் பட்டம் வபற்று வவளிறயைியுள்ளனர். ஒரு மாணவி இந்த ஆண்டு (2015) ஜூகல

மாதம் தமது ைல்விகய நிகைவு வெய்ைின்ைார். இவர்ைளுக்ைான இறுதிக்ைட்ட நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவும் பிரியாவிகட நிைழ்ச்ெியும் 22-02-2015 ஆம் திைதி வெங்ைலடியில் அகமந்துள்ள றதவாலய மண்டபத்தில் நகடவபற்ைது. ஏழுஏஊழுனு அகமப்பின் தகலவர் திரு. த. ைறணஸ் உட்பட நிதிஉதவி வபற்ை மாணவர்ைளும் ைலந்துவைாண்டனர்.

இதுவகரைாலமும் நிதியத்தினால் பயனகடந்த ைிழக்கு பல்ைகலக்ைழை மாணவர்ைள் உதவிய அன்பர்ைளுக்கு நன்ைிவதரிவிக்கும் முைமாை நிகனவுப்பரிகெ வழங்ைினார்ைள். இம்மாணவர்ைளில் ெிலர் தற்வபாழுது வதாழில் வாய்ப்பும் வபற்றுள்ளனர். ெில மாணவர்ைள் பட்ட றமற்படிப்பில் ஈடுபடுவதாைவும் வதரிவித்தனர். fk;g`h khtl;lk; இலங்கையில் வடறமற்கு மாைாணத்தில் ைம்பஹா மாவட்டத்தில் நிதியத்தின் உதவிவபறும் மாணவர்ைளுக்ைான நிதிக்வைாடுப்பனவு நீர்வைாழும்பு விஜயரத்தினம் இந்து மத்திய ைல்லூரியில்அதிபர் திரு. புவறனஸ்வரராஜா தகலகமயில் 28-02-2015 இல் நடந்த ைல்லூரியின் கவரவிழாவில் வழங்ைப்பட்டது. இக்ைல்லூரியில் பயின்று நிதியத்தின் உதவி வபற்று பல்ைகலக்ைழைம் வென்று வதாழில் வாய்ப்பு வபற்ை இரண்டு மாணவிைள் ைலந்துவைாண்டு உகரயாற்ைினர்.

வெல்வி பாமினி வெல்லத்துகர தற்வபாழுது நுவறரலியா மாவட்டத்தில் பிரதிக் ைல்விப்பணிப்பாளராை பணியாற்றுைிைார். இவருக்கு உதவிய அன்பர் திரு. நவனீ் நறடென் (வமல்பன்) ஏகனய இரண்டு மாணவிைள்: வெல்வி. றலாஜினி (உதவிய அன்பர் : திரு. திருக்குமாரன் (வமல்பன்) வெல்வி எம். றரணுைா ( உதவிய அன்பர் ) திருமதி நிரூபா ரூபிச்ெந்திரன் (வமல்பன்) ைல்லூரி ஆெிரியர்ைளாை பணியாற்றுைின்ைனர். இங்கு குைிப்பிடப்பட்ட இலங்கை நிைழ்ச்ெிைளில் நிதியத்தின் ொர்பில் துகண நிதிச்வெயலாளர் திரு. வல.முருைபூபதி ைலந்துவைாண்டார்.

அவருக்ைான விமான பயணச்ெீட்கட நிதியத்தின் துகணத்தகலவர் Dr. ரவநீ்திரராஜா (ACT), உறுப்பினர்ைள் Dr நறடென் (VIC), திரு. றயாைன் ெிவா (NSW) ஆைிறயார் வழங்ைியிருந்தனர். இவர்ைளுக்கு நிதியம் நன்ைி வதரிவிக்ைின்ைது.

மாணவர்ைளுக்ைான மதியறபாென விருந்து உட்பட அகனத்து உபொரங்ைளுக்கும் றதகவப்பட்ட நிதிகய நன்வைாகடயாை வழங்ைிய அன்பர்ைள் விபரம் வருமாறு:

இந்நிைழ்ச்ெி அனுமதிச் ெீட்டுக்ைறளா அகழப்பிதழ்ைறளா அச்ெிடப்படாமல் ைன்பரா அன்பர்ைளின் ஆதரவுடன் நகடவபற்ைது. ைன்பராவில் நடந்த நிைழ்ச்ெியில் $1350 அவுஸ்திறரலியன் வவள்ளிைள் நன்வைாகடயாை ைிகடக்ைப்வபற்ைது. இந்நிைழ்ச்ெிகய ஒழங்கு வெய்திருந்த நிதியத்தின் துகணத் தகலவர் Dr. ரவநீ்திரா ராஜா அவர்ைளுக்கும் நன்ைி. இராப்றபாெனத்திற்கு பின்வரும் அன்பர்ைள் உதவி வழங்ைினர்:

epjpaj;jpd; epue;juitg;G epjpp நிதியம் ஆரம்பிக்ைப்பட்ட ைாலத்தில் ெிட்னியில் இயங்ைிய தமிழர்ைளுக்ைான மனித உரிகம அகமப்பு வழங்ைிய $25,000 அவுஸ்திறரலியன் வவள்ளிைள் வதாடர்ந்தும் வங்ைியில் நிரந்தரகவப்பிலிருக்ைிைது. பின்னர் நிதியமும் ைடந்த ைாலத்தில் றமலும் ஐந்து ஆயிரம் வவள்ளிைகள றெமித்து நிரந்தரகவப்பிலிட்டகத

உறுப்பினர்ைள் நன்ைைிவார்ைள். ைடந்த 2014 ஆம் ஆண்டு நகடவபற்ை நிதியத்தின் வவள்ளிவிழாவில் திரட்டப்பட்ட நிதியிலிருந்தும் றமலும் ஐந்தாயிரம் வவள்ளிைள் ($5000) நிரந்தர கவப்பிலிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. தற்வபாழுது நிதியத்தின் நிரந்தர கவப்பில் வமாத்தம் 35 ஆயிரம் வவள்ளிைள் ($35,000) இருப்பகத உறுதிப்படுத்துைின்றைாம். இந்த றெமிப்புக்கு ஆதரவு வழங்ைிய அகனவருக்கும் நிதியத்தின் நன்ைிகயத் வதரிவிக்ைின்றைாம். ed;wp ைடந்த ஆண்டுப் வபாதுக்கூட்டத்தில் ெமர்ப்பிக்ைப்பட்ட 2013 - 2014 ஆண்டைிக்கைகய ெிட்னியிலிருந்து அச்ெிட்டு வழங்ைிய வபயர் குைிப்பிடவிரும்பாத அன்பருக்கு எமது நன்ைிகயத் வதரிவிக்ைின்றைாம்.

Annual Report (2014-2015)

Welcome members, friends and well-wishers of the Ceylon Student Educational Fund (Fund). Our Fund has celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee year and has commenced its 27th year of operation. Thank you to all of you. We wish to outline in this Annual Report, what the Fund has undertaken over the 2014 – 2015 year. 26th Annual General Meeting The 26th Annual General Meeting, chaired by the President Mrs Arun Vijayarani was held on 16 November 2014 at Vermont South Community House. At this AGM, the 2014-2016 Management Committee Members were unanimously elected. The Management Committee for the period of 2015-2016 was elected as follows: President: Mr Vimal Aravinthan Vice President: Mr S.Thuraisingam & Dr. D.Ravindrarajah

Information Session in Singapore On 4 February 2015, an information session about the Fund was held in Singapore. As a result of this session, we have enlisted sponsors who have come forward and taken on the sponsorship of students who were directly affected by the civil war in the Northern and Vanni regions.

Fund’s provision of assistance and meetings with students 2015 February: The Fund held a number of functions in the Northern, Eastern and North Eastern provinces during February. These functions were held to provide information to the students sponsored by the Fund as well as to meet and provide the financial assistance to the individual students. Vavuniya

On 14 February 2015 a function was organised at the Veppankullam VOVCOD office for all the students in the Vavuniya district. The function was presided by VOVCOD’s leader Mr.T.Ganesh. Mrs Krishnaveni Nanthan, who was one of the first students of the Fund, who is currently the Principal at Vavuniya Hindu Vidyalayam also attended and spoke at this function. She advised the students that without the assistance provided by the Fund she would not have been able to achieve her posting as a School Principal. She requested that the students make use of the assistance provided by the Fund to do well in their education. Two students from the Vavuniya district, through the assistance provided by the Fund have been successful in getting a place at Colombo University for this year.

Jaffna District On 16 February 2015 the representative of the Fund met with all the staff at the Centre for Child Development Agency at their Kandy Rd office in Jaffna. At this meeting the bank account details of each of the student’s mothers were collected. On 17 February 2015 a function was held at the Ariyaalai Saraswathi Community Centre to meet all

the students in the Jaffna district. The provision of funds and information took place during the function, which commenced at 10 am and concluded at 4 pm. Mrs Kokila Mahendran who was the initial Jaffna co-ordinator for the Fund and the District Education Officer and Counseling Teacher attended the function and addressed everyone present. Students, their parents, the staff of the Centre for Child Development Agency and some previous teachers also attended the function.

Mr .Senthil, one of the Fund’s members in Melbourne arranged a friend, Mr Kannathsan from Chullipuram to attend and record the function. The video of the function was provided for viewing on the Internet. Details of this was provided to the members earlier in the year. Miss V Annalakshmi, one of the Jaffna district students was successful in obtaining a place at Jaffna University. Her sponsor was Mrs Thulasi Krishnakumar Murugiah in Melbourne. Miss Niruthika who is currently completing her final year of university study this year. Her sponsor is Mr. Murugadasan in Melbourne. Killinochchi On 18 February 2015 the representative of the Fund met with all the sponsored students at Killinochchi Maha Vidyalayam. This function was presided by the Principal Mr Pangayaselvan.

Vanni District The Fund was provided with the detail of 30 new students who were directly impacted by the civil war. These students were from the areas of Udayarkattu, Visuvamadam and Puthukudiuruppu. On 19 February 2015 the representative of the Fund met these students, their mothers and the staff of the Centre for Child Development Centre in Jaffna who are co-ordinating the assistance provided. Some mothers requested that they be provided with additional assistance to help with their welfare. Mrs Nivethana Achchuthan, one of the Fund’s member has offered to help find an avenue for these mothers. Ampara District On 20 February 2015 a function was held at Kalmunai Periyaneelavanai Vishnu Maha Vidyalayam to meet the students and provide their financial assistance. This function was presided by the co-ordinator and the Principal Mrs Sivamani Natkunasingam.

Miss K Harshini, a student who received assistance through the Fund to help undertake her education at this school has now commenced her university degree at the Eastern University. Her sponsor is Mrs Damayanthi Somaskanthan in Melbourne. Trincomallee District The Trincomallee district function was held on 21 February 2015 at the Neelavani branch of VOVCOD. Its leader Mr. T. Ganesh presided the function, which was also attended by the co-

oridnators for the Vavuniya district of VOVCOD. One of the students from this district who receives assistance from the Fund, Miss A Nalini has commenced her university degree. Her sponsor was Mr.L Murugapoopathy. Eastern University Students Nineteen students who were undertaking their undergraduate degrees at the Eastern University completed their degrees at the end of 2014 and have graduated. One student will complete her degree in July 2015. On 22 February 2015 a function was held at Sengalladi Church Hall. The final financial assistance and information session took place. This function was presided by Mr T. Ganesh of VOVCOD and was attended by the students and the staff of VOVCOD. The students provided the Fund and its sponsors with a Trophy to recognise and appreciate the assistance provided to these students to complete their education. A number of these students have been successful in securing employment whilst some have embarked on further study.

Gampaha District The function for the Gampaha district was held at the Negambo Wijeyaratna Hindu College‘s Diamond Jubilee Function. This function was presided by the Principal Mr Buvaneswararajah and was also attended by two students of the Fund who have since completed their degrees and secured employment.

Miss Bamini Sellathurai who is currently the Deputy Director of Education for Nuwaraeliya attended. Her sponsor was Mr Naveen Nadesan of Melbourne. Miss Logini (sponsor: Mr Thirukumaran) and Miss M. Renuka (Sponsor: Mrs Nirupa Rubychandran) are working as school teachers. Mr L Murugapoopathy, the Fund’s Assistant Treasurer represented the Fund at all these functions. The cost of Mr Murugapoopathy’s flight ticket was provided by the Vice President Dr Ravindraraja (ACT), member, Dr Nadesan (VIC) and Mr Yogan Siva (NSW). The Fund would like to thank these

members for their kind donation. The expenses associated with the provision of food and beverages and other necessary items at these Functions were contributed by Mr & Mrs Ganeshalingam, Mr & Mrs Arunagiri, Mr & Mrs Murukiah, Mr & Mrs Sriskantharajah, Dr & Mrs Thiviyanathan, Mr & Mrs Chandran, Mrs Raji Pathmasri, Mr & Mrs Sivanathan and Mr & Mrs Navaratnam Illanko. The Fund would like to thank these members as well. Furthermore, the Fund would also like to thank Mr Kannathasan for recording the Jaffna function and enabling people to watch the function through Youtube. The Fund’s activities in Canberra The Fund’s Vice President, Dr Ravindraraja organised a small information session and function on 16 May 2015 at the Senior Citizen’s Hall in Canberra. The purpose of the function was to publicise the

operations of the Fund with an aim towards generating some donations. The function was organised without the printing of tickets or official invitations. Dinner was provided for all those who attended. The Fund managed to raise an amount of $1,350 through donations from those who attended on the night. We would like to thank Dr. Ravindraraja for organising the event. We would also like to thank all the people who organised the dinner on the night. The Fund’s Term Deposit Since the Fund’s inception an amount of $25,000, provided by the Sydney Human Rights Welfare for Tamils organisation has been invested in a term deposit. Over the years the Fund has managed to save a further $5,000 and was added to the term deposit. In 2014 the Fund had its Silver Jubilee Function and was successful in gaining a further $5,000. This

amount has also been added to the Term Deposit. Currently there is a total amount of $35,000 in a Term Deposit. The Fund would like to thank all those who have facilitated this achievement. The Eastern University students supported by the

CSEF in Australia have all become graduates.

Graduation ceremonies will follow soon.

A number of students have been successful in obtaining employment, whilst some have decided to undertake further studies.

The Ceylon Student’s Educational Fund’s (Fund) has supported those students that were severely affected by the decades long civil war and the 2004 Tsunami. These students who were undertaking their studies at the Eastern University received financial assistance through the Fund to help complete their studies. Through the financial assistance provided by many members in Australia and others from overseas, the Fund has been able to provide support for students who have been severely affected by the civil war. Students from Eastern University, Jaffna University, Eastern University’s Vavuniya campus and Colombo University have received financial support from the Fund. Many of these students have been successful in securing employment within Sri Lanka and some, internationally. Over the last few years these students have graduate in three batches. The last of the three batches consisted of 18 students from Eastern University, who completed their studies in December 2014. A function was recently held at Chengaladi Church Hall. At this function, the Fund’s patron and Assistant Treasurer, Mr L Murugapoopathy, met and spoke to the students, as well as provide them the funds for the relevant period. The function was presided by the co-ordinator from VOVCOD, Mr T Ganesh. The student representative, Miss Dilani Thanaraj, organized the function. There are currently two Eastern University students who are yet to complete their studies. They will conclude their studies in July 2015. The students that spoke at the function likened the support provided by the Fund to that of a parent. The long-term assistance provided by the Fund and its sponsors to help them complete their studies without any disruptions and visiting them from time to time to see how they are progressing was greatly appreciated. The students also thanked and congratulated the Fund and its members for providing assistance for their education. The students submitted letters of gratitude to their respective sponsors.

Finally on behalf of all the students, Mr Murugapoopathy was presented with a trophy which was a token of the student’s appreciation for all the work undertaken by the Fund. Those students who attended the function included the following:

The Fund commenced the provision of financial assistance to ten students from the Vavuniya campus of Jaffna University in January 2010. These students were severely affected by the war during its dramatic end in 2009. To help these students attend university, bicycles were provided by well-meaning sponsors in Australia. These students have completed their studies with some of them having moved overseas. Some of the students who undertook their A-Level studies in 2014 have been successful in gaining a university placement in Colombo, Jaffna, East and Eastern Universities for 2015. This news was received from the students and the coordinators of the Northern and Eastern districts at the functions held in February 2015.
