• Specific access may be requested by completing a form found on the TEA website.

• Access must be used within 90 days to remain active.

Texas Education Code § 21.003. CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.

(a) A person may not be employed as a teacher, teacher intern or teacher trainee, librarian, educational aide, administrator, educational diagnostician, or counselor by a school district unless the person holds an appropriate certificate or permit issued as provided by Subchapter B.

Assignment Rules – Chapter 231

• 19 TAC, Chapter 231, Assignment of Public School Personnel was created in 2009, replacing Chapter 230 Subchapter U.

• Applies to old and new certificates

(TCAP)

�Certified at the secondary level in grades 7-12 (Secondary 6-12 or 8-12)

�Could hold an all-level (PK-12 or EC-12) certificate or elementary/4-8 certificate for middle school assignments in grades 7-8

�Assigned to grades 7-12 in a subject not covered by the current certificate– one class period or more – cannot teach even one class period without a permit or certificate, unless the person meets assignment rules

�Valid for One School Year – Activated Locally

– Type A - Texas program completer who lacks only tests for certification - valid for 12 months

– Type B - Texas certified prior to 2-1-1986 and lacks revalidation test - valid for 6 months or until end of school year, whichever is less.

– Type C - out-of-state/country certified, issued Texas One-Year Certificate, passed content test, failed PPR test - valid for 12 months from the date the person first attempted and failed the PPR test.
