Union Territory of Puducherry is centralized and made by the Centralised Admission Committee

(CENTAC-PG), Government of Puducherry for the academic year 2015-2016.

Note :

a) Admission to the Government Quota Seats in private and unaided professional colleges, including

the minority colleges, will be as per the law / regulation / order of Government of India or

Government of Puducherry on the subject.

b) Subsequent to the publication of admission notification for the academic year 2015-2016, if any

new College(s), new course(s) or change in in-take in various existing course(s) is / are approved

by the Government of Puducherry and other Statutory Bodies for admission during the academic

year 2015-16 candidates who apply for admission to the PG programmes within the given time

frame will be considered for admission to those college(s) / course(s) also.

2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION

(i) M.Tech. in Structural Engineering - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of

the four semester M.Tech. Course in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural

Engineering should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering through

regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any

University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at

least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*.

(ii) M.Tech. in Energy Technology – Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the

four semester M.Tech. Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Energy

Technology should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical / Chemical / Aerospace / Aeronautical

/ Automobile / Energy Engineering / Marine Engineering / Petroleum Engineering through




(iii) M.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering – Candidates seeking admission to

the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Electronics and Communication

Engineering should have passed B.E/ B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering /

Communication Engineering / Telecommunication Engineering/ Electronics & Telecommunication

Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an

examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent

thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*.

(iv) M.Tech. in Distributed Computing Systems – Candidates seeking admission to the first

semester of four semester M.Tech. Course in Computer Science and Engineering with

specialization in Distributed Computing Systems should have passed B.E./B.Tech. in Computer

Science and Engineering / Information Technology or MCA through regular course of study from

an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority accepted by

the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree

examination or equivalent CGPA*.

(v) M.Tech. in Electrical Drives and Control - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester

of four semester M.Tech. Course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with specialization in

Electrical Drives and Control should have passed B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics

Engineering/Electrical Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved

institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry

University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or

equivalent CGPA*.

(vi) M.Tech in Environmental Engineering – Candidates seeking admission to the first semester

of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Environmental Engineering should have passed

B.E/B.Tech in Civil / Chemical / Environmental Engineering through regular course of study

from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any University or Authority accepted by

the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree

examination or equivalent CGPA*.

(vii) M.Tech. in Product Design and Manufacturing - Candidates seeking admission to the first

semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in

Product design and Manufacturing should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical / Production /

Manufacturing / Automobile / Mechatronics / Aeronautical / Metallurgy / Plastic Engineering

through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any



(viii) M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (Computer Aided Design) - Candidates seeking

admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Mechanical Engineering

with specialization in Computer Aided Design should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical /

Metallurgy / Automobile / Production / Manufacturing Engineering through regular course of

study from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any University or Authority

accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the

degree examination or equivalent CGPA*.

(ix) M.Tech. in Wireless Communication - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of

the four semester M.Tech. Course in Electronics and Communication Engineering with

specialization in Wireless Communication should have passed B.E/ B.Tech in Electronics &

Communication Engineering / Communication Engineering / Telecommunication Engineering /

Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering / Information Technology through regular course

of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority

accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the

(x) M.Tech. in Information Security - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of four

semester M.Tech. Course in Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in

(xii) M.Tech. in Instrumentation Engineering - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester

of four semester M.Tech. Course in Instrumentation Engineering should have passed

B.E./B.Tech. in Electronics/Instrumentation / Electronics and Instrumentation

Engineering/Instrumentation and Control Engineering/Electronics and Communication

(xiii) M.Sc. in Materials Science & Technology – Candidates seeking admission to the first

semester of the four semester M.Sc. course should have passed Bachelor’s Degree in Science

with Physics as main subject and Chemistry and Mathematics as ancillaries.

Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Chemistry as main subject and Physics and Mathematics as

ancillaries.

(or)

Bachelor’s Degree in Science - Applied Science.

(or)

Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as major subjects

(xiii) M.Phil. in Physics (Material Science) - Candidates seeking admission to the first

semester of the two semester M.Phil course should have passed M.Sc Physics / M.Sc (Materials

Science & Technology) with a minimum of 55% marks in the curriculum or equivalent CGPA*.

* CGPA - Cumulative Grade Point Average

Note:

1. For all M.Tech., M.Sc., M.Phil., courses candidates belonging to SC & ST who have a mere pass

in the qualifying examination are also eligible.

2. There is no age limit for M.Tech., M.Sc., & M.Phil courses.

3. Government quota seats in self–financing engineering colleges shall be filled by candidates from

Puducherry U.T only.

3. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

(A) Allocation of seats

Out of the total sanctioned intake, 75% of the seats are reserved for candidates from U.T. of

Puducherry and 25% of the seats reserved for candidates from other states/UTs, for the PG courses

offered in Government / Government sponsored Colleges. The reservation ** in admission to various

Post Graduate courses offered by the Colleges run by the Society and Unaided Private Professional

Colleges are as follows:

minimum number of seats earmarked for each of these categories are not filled up, under normal process of selection in any category.

** Reservation for all the categories shall be carried out based on the G.Os. in vogue and modified by the Government from time to time and on merit basis only.

(B) SELECTION PROCEDURE

(i) M.Tech. Courses

(a) Puducherry State Candidates:

Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate

marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8th semester) will be the criteria for

selection. Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates will be filled up by the non GATE

candidates of Puducherry/ failing which by GATE candidates from other states / UT’s , failing which

by non Gate Candidates from other states / UT’s. The selection of Non GATE candidates will be

based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by the CENTAC-PG. The

SC/ST vacancies of Puducherry quota will be filled by non GATE SC/ST candidates of Puducherry

origin, failing which, by GATE SC /ST candidates from Other States / Union Territories.

(b) Other State Candidates:

Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate

marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8 semester) will be the criteria for selection.

Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates from Other States / Union Territories will be

filled up by non GATE candidates from Other states, failing which, by the GATE/non GATE

candidates of Puducherry general, failing which, by sponsored candidates. The selection of non

GATE candidates will be based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by

the CENTAC-PG. The SC/ST vacancies of Other States / Union Territories will be filled by SC/ST

candidates of Puducherry origin with GATE score, failing which, by non GATE candidates.

(c) Sponsored Candidates:

Sponsored candidates shall be treated as non GATE candidates and (i) 40% weightage of marks for

experience (at the rate of 4% for each completed year of experience excluding the first two years

which is the minimum requirement, subject to a maximum of 40%) and (ii) 60% weightage of

marks shall be given for the performance in entrance examination to be conducted by CENTAC-PG.

The aggregate of marks obtained in (i) and (ii) shall be the criteria for selection. Sponsored

candidates must have two years of full time work experience after obtaining minimum qualification

for admission in a registered firm* / company* / Industry* / Educational and Research Institution /

any Government Department / Government Autonomous Organisation, in the relevant field in

which admission is sought.

* The sponsoring firm / company / industry should be a member of CII / NSI / Builders

Association. The candidate sponsored should be a confirmed employee.

Vacancies arising in the seats allotted for sponsored category candidates will be filled up by

respective Pondicherry and Other state category general candidates.

A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get

admission. The employers should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway

before the completion of course. The fee for the candidates should normally be borne by the

sponsoring organisation wherever possible and the fees for the entire year should be paid in the

beginning of the academic year.

(d) Non GATE Candidates:

The candidates under non-GATE and sponsored categories should obtain minimum percentile in the

entrance examination as prescribed below:

SC/ST candidates should have obtained at least 10% of maximum mark obtained in that discipline.

The other candidates should have obtained at least 20% of maximum mark obtained in that

discipline.

Separate merit list will be prepared for each M.Tech programme based on the percentile

obtained in the entrance examination.

Stipend for M.Tech. Students : GATE qualified candidates admitted in M.Tech. will be paid stipend

only after the receipt of funds from AICTE. Sponsored candidates will not be eligible to receive

GATE stipend even if they are admitted with a GATE score card.

(ii) M.Sc. in Materials Science & Technology

Selection is based on the performance of candidates in the entrance examination to be

conducted by CENTAC–PG.

(iii) M.Phil. in Physics (Material Science)

Selection is by an interview on the research area concerned. The weightage of mark

distribution are 20% for UG degree, 40% for PG degree and 40% for personal interview.

4. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Entrance Examination would be conducted only at Pondicherry Engineering College for the Non-Gate

and Sponsored candidates for admission to M.Tech courses and M.Sc. course.

4.1. Pattern of Entrance Examination

Entrance examination in specializations viz., Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and Chemical Engineering will be conducted based on the B.Tech syllabus of the respective branches of engineering. Merit ranking for admission to various M.Tech programs will be prepared on the basis of percentile score secured in the entrance examination conducted in respective branches of engineering (as given in the Table below). The candidates seeking admission to more than one programme, separate applications shall be submitted for each programme.

The Entrance Examination is of two hours duration consisting of 90 objective type questions. Each

correct answer carries 4 marks and wrong answers will have minus 1 mark (Negative mark).

Candidates have to shade the answers in the coding sheets which will be supplied at the time of test

along with question booklet.

4.2 Schedule of Entrance Examination

The Entrance Examination will be conducted only in Pondicherry Engineering College as per the

following schedule.

4.3. Hall Tickets

Shortly after the receipt of the application that is complete in all respects, the Hall Ticket for Entrance

Examination along with Register Number will be dispatched to the candidates. The Hall Ticket must be

produced at the time of the Entrance Examination for verification. No candidate shall be permitted to

write the Entrance Examination without the valid Hall Ticket. PG Entrance Examination Hall Ticket must

be preserved even after the Entrance Examination and it should be presented at the time of counselling

for admission.

4.4. Duplicate Hall Ticket

If Entrance Examination Hall Ticket is not received by 16th July, 2015, the candidate should contact

the Enquiry Office located in Pondicherry Engineering College. When the candidates come for duplicate

Hall Ticket, they should produce two passport size photographs and the proof of having applied for

Entrance Examination.

If the Hall Ticket received is incomplete in any respect, e.g. without register number, etc., the

candidates are advised to contact the Enquiry Office with the faulty Hall Ticket on the date as

mentioned above for clarification and necessary correction.

All photographs used for identification purpose until the admission of the candidate is over, shall be the

prints from the same negative. It is advised that sufficient number of copies of the photograph may be

kept in reserve to meet any situation like the one described above that may arise any time in future.

5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Application forms and Information Bulletin can be obtained from the Office of PEC Credit Society,

Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry-605014, in person on all working days on or after

8th June 2015 on payment of Rs. 1030/- [Rs. 530/- for SC / ST candidates]. Application forms can

also be obtained by post by sending a request to The Convenor, CENTAC-PG, Pondicherry Engineering

College, Puducherry-605014, along with two self-addressed slips (neatly typed or hand written) and a

crossed demand draft for Rs.1065/- (Rs.1000/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for

postage) [Rs.565/- for SC / ST Candidates (Rs.500/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for

postage)], drawn in favour of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG payable at Puducherry. Payment by cheques,

postal orders and money orders will not be accepted. Filled-in Application forms along with all

necessary enclosures should be sent in the prescribed envelope to 'The Convenor, Centralised

Admission Committee (CENTAC-PG), Office of The Dean (Examinations). Pondicherry Engineering

College, Puducherry - 605 014', so as to reach latest by Friday, 3rd July 2015 before 5.00 p.m.

Details are also available in the web site www.pec.edu. Application forms can also be downloaded and

submitted along with crossed Demand Draft for Rs.1000/-[Rs.500/- for SC/ST candidates] drawn in

favour of the Convenor, CENTAC-PG payable at Puducherry.

Note :

i) For each course, a separate application has to be submitted.

ii) Applications which are incomplete, defective or received after the due date shall be rejected

summarily and no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard.

iii) Candidates selected for admission shall be intimated by post. No communication shall be

sent to the applicants not selected for admission. No correspondence in this regard shall be

entertained.

iv) The selected candidates shall be required to submit all the documents in original at the time

of counselling.

v) The original documents submitted shall be returned only after obtaining the recognition from

the Pondicherry University. The candidates are advised to take enough number of

photocopies of the documents before submitting the original documents.

vi) Admission will not be granted to candidates who do not produce the original certificates at

the time of counselling.

vii) All admissions made are provisional and subject to the approval of Pondicherry University.

viii) It shall be the responsibility of the candidate who applies for admission to study the

Information and Instructions to the Candidates and ensure that he/ she is eligible for

admission.

ix) The admission of any candidate not possessing the required qualification, allotted either

based on false certificates or by oversight shall be liable to be cancelled and the candidates

shall have no cause for grievance.

6. CRITERIA FOR DOMICILE

A candidate is considered to belong to the UT of Puducherry, if he/she satisfies at least one of the

following domicile criteria (Refer Format of Certificates):

a) The candidates or whose parent (either mother or father or both) or Guardian (in the case of

children who have lost both the parents) have been residing continuously in this UT of

Puducherry for at least for 5 years immediately preceding the date of application.

b) Those who have passed the Degree examination and for that purpose had undergone

academic studies continuously for 5 successive years immediately preceding the qualifying

examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognised educational

institution(s) located in Puducherry UT and having their residence in Puducherry UT for 5

years continuously during that period.

c) Children of Central/State Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Central Paramilitary

Forces / Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the

Central Government or by the Puducherry UT administration posted and serving in the

Puducherry UT for at least a minimum period of one year prior to the last date of submission

of application.

d) Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and who have declared

Puducherry as their hometown.

e) French Nationals residing in Puducherry UT and covered by the terms of the “Treaty of

Cession” shall be treated on par with the candidates who produce the prescribed Puducherry

UT residence certificate. Such French Nationals will be required to produce residence

certificate issued by the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Puducherry not

below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar. In addition they should produce a certificate of

registration issued for this purpose from the French Consulate at Puducherry.

Note: Children of these French Nationals shall not be considered for admission under the quota of

non-residents.

7. COUNSELLING FOR ADMISSION

The admission is based on the merit, category of the candidates, and availability of vacancies at the

time of counselling. All admissions made by CENTAC-PG are provisional and subject to the approval of

Pondicherry University.

7.1. Venue

Counselling for PG programmes will be conducted at the Office of the CENTAC-PG, Pondicherry

Engineering College, Pillaichavady, Puducherry - 605 014.

7.2. Date and Time

Candidates shall be called for counselling as per their merit. Candidates to be called for counselling

shall be intimated through call letters or a public notification in newspapers and in the Pondicherry

Engineering College web site (www.pec.edu). No change of date / time of counselling is allowed.

CENTAC-PG will not be responsible for postal delay, if any, and non-delivery of counselling intimation

whatever reason thereto.

Candidates who do not attend the counselling in the specified date and time have to forego the claim

for admission. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and unavoidable reasons, if a candidate is

unable to attend the counselling on the indicated date and time, he / she can attend on a subsequent

date and time during the counselling period with prior permission of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG. But,

the candidate can only opt for the seat available at that time and cannot claim any seat as per his / her

original rank. In any case, counselling will not be done in the absence of candidates.

Unfilled seats and vacancies arising out of the dropouts of already admitted candidates will be filled up

during the subsequent counsellings. Details of such vacancies will be notified on the notice board and

will also be made available in the Pondicherry Engineering College web site (www.pec.edu) updated

periodically. Individual intimation will not be sent to candidates for the Counselling for seats arising due

to vacancies.

No communication shall be sent to candidates who are not eligible to be called for counselling and no

further correspondence in this regard shall be entertained.

7.3. Verification of Original Certificates

Candidates called for counselling shall be required to submit all the documents in original for

verification at the time of counselling. Candidates, who fail to produce the required documents in

original, shall not be counselled. However, if a candidate has deposited the original certificates to an

institution where he / she has already been admitted, a letter to that effect issued by the Head of the

institution should be produced. Only in that case, attested / true copy of certificates will be accepted

for verification.

The original documents submitted by the candidates to be admitted, shall be returned only after

obtaining recognition from the respective Universities and hence the candidates are advised to take

enough number of photocopies of the documents before submitting the originals for verification during

counselling..

7.4. Counselling Fees

A counseling fee of Rs1100/- (Rs550/- for SC/ST) will be collected from each candidate.

Candidates will forfeit the counseling fee of Rs.1100/- (Rs.550/- for SC/ST candidates) only on

selection of seat.

The counseling fee should be in the form of ‘Demand Draft’ drawn in favour of “The Convenor,

CENTAC-PG”, PAYABLE at Puducherry. Payment by cheques, postal orders, money orders and

Cash will not be accepted. No candidate will be allowed to attend the counseling without the

prescribed counseling fee.

Note: (i)The above fees subject to revision by approval of the Governing Body

(ii) If a student discontinues the course completely, only the Caution Deposit and Library Deposit

will be refunded. The Caution/Library deposit have to be claimed within a year of their

discontinuing/completing the course, otherwise, it will not be refunded.

(iii) Examination Fees: University/ College examination fee shall be paid as prescribed by the

University/College.

c) For using personal computer prior permission of Warden is required. An additional fee of Rs.

400/- per annum shall be paid at the beginning of every year.
