Principles of TG Road Safety

• TG “Road Safety” has working or corresponding members from all CEDR countries

• Task groups report to TG “Road Safety”• Tasks of TG “Road Safety”

- umbrella for the single road safety activities- functions as an “institutional memory”- coordinates output- helps avoiding work redundancies of task groups- informs CEDR member on road safety activities- collects, exchanges and disseminates relevant

information to CEDR members

Task Group O2

Goals:• inform CEDR members of developments in the filed of eSafety • meet commitment to the commission to provide CEDR member

information to the eSafety forum 

Priority issues:• activities of the eSafety forum• research activities in the field of eSafety 

Strategy:• participate in the safety forum• disseminate and discuss information in TG “road Safety”• disseminate relevant information to CEDR members• express CEDR’s views and interests

Timetable and Milestones:• 2005 31/10/05: Kick-off meeting • 2006 2 task group meetings• 2007 2 task group meetings 

Output:      • progress report • dissemination of relevant information from the safety forum activities of

the eSafety forum

Human Resources:• Task O2 will be performed by a task group of 2 people meeting approx.

2 times a year • most of the work will be done and coordinated via e-mail and webpage

Task Group O3

Goals:• improve road safety by making information on road design concepts readily

available • facilitate access to this information for CEDR member countries • influence the development of new road design concepts

Priority issues:• RIA, RSA, RSI, NSM/BSM, Risk Analysis• Self explaining road / forgiving roadsides• Roadside telematics

Strategy:• access experience on road safety experience and practice within the CEDR

countries • discuss the Infrastructure Directive of the European Commission • develop a framework within which to define road design concepts • evaluate what already exists and what has been done • seek collective views on future needs • identify and facilitate ways to develop those needs

Output:      • fact sheets on each subjects including a common strategy (for

presentation to the EB and/or GB), e.g. fact sheets on EuroRAP• catalogue of road design concepts • workshop on road design concepts for practitioners

Human Resources:• Task O3 should be performed by a working group of approx. 6 to 8

people meeting two to three times a year

Task Group O4

Goals:• monitor and interpret the EU’s road safety activities • inform CEDR members of their significance and impact • support EU officials in their road safety work • position CEDR as a reliable partner for the commission

Priority issues:• EU Road Safety Action Programme and comments to the programme • Mid Term Review of the Action Programme + EU Road Safety Report• White paper and revisions • current EU legal and research activities in the field of road safety

Strategy:• monitor priority issues and consider the implications for CEDR members • meet and liase with EU officials • disseminate important draft papers or concepts to CEDR members • get valuable feedback for the Commission • produce summary reports for discussion at TD Operation, EB, or GB meetings • disseminate and discuss information in TG “Road Safety”

Goals:• understand, identify, and disseminate best practice to achieve cost-effective road

safety investments

Priority issues:• opinion poll among CEDR members on cost-effective road safety investments • current EU research activities in the field of cost-effective road safety investments

Strategy:• find out how money is spent on road safety and how such costs are determined

by means of a questionnaire • follow EU research activities in the field of cost-effectiveness • review PIARC’s road safety manual and its applications • identify best-practice • disseminate and discuss information in TG “Road Safety”
