Cede Prudente Member of the International Environment Photographers Association (IEPA) Cede Prudente is a man with a mission, and that mission is to document every aspect of Borneo’s environment so that his images can contribute towards the conservation of this exceptional island. He was born in Lahad Datu, Sabah and now based in Sandakan on Sabah’s east coast, he lives in one of the world’s most diverse and exciting environment for wildlife photography. Cede has over two decades of experience in nature trips and expeditions, he continues his quest to documenting birds and mammals of Borneo. He established North Borneo Safari, a tour agency offering a range of adventure, birding tours and PhotoSafari in Malaysia. Appointed consultant to many Natural History Documentary filming in Borneo, which includes the BBC and National Geographic TV. With much interest in Bird conservation, he is a co-founder of the Sandakan Borneo Bird Club. He provides Talks and workshop and actively promoting nature education, conservation awareness, including birding and wildlife photography. He was the principal photographer for Wild Borneo, The National Parks and other Wild Places of Malaysia and Orangutan, Wild Malaysia 2014, Proboscis Monkeys of Borneo, Sabah Colour Guide: Kinabatangan, Tabin: Sabah’s Greatest Wildlife Sanctuary, The Photographic Guide to Birds of Sepilok, Wild Sabah and Sepilok Forest. His images are in constant demand for magazines and Malaysian tourism promotion material. In the field, Cede is totally dedicated to getting ‘THE’ shot. He may be almost up to his hips in a stream, slithering in the mud on a jungle trail or perspiring under the relentless tropical sun, but he never gives up. And it’s hard work carrying heavy tripods, cameras with extra long lenses and all the other paraphernalia needed. Despite all those years of seeing and capturing on film some remarkable animal and insect behaviour, as well as some remarkably beautiful pristine environments, Cede is never blasé, perhaps it is partly this constant sense of wonder and respect for the natural world that helps make him such a fine photographer.

A professional photographer and conservationist, born in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo,

Cede is based in Sandakan on Sabah’s east coast, he lives in one of the world’s most diverse and

exciting environment for wildlife photography.

After graduating from university, Cede was involve in nature tourism business and running a

challenging task of managing the first wildlife lodge in Sukau, on the Kinabatangan river, in 1990

and has been documenting its wildlife ever since.

He was manager of WWF Malaysia’s Partners for Wetlands project, working with various

government agencies, the oil palm sector, tour operators and the local community to establish a

plan for wetland management and to ensure the restoration and conservation of the Lower

Kinabatangan floodplain.

Cede has conducted many photographic exhibition showcasing the Natural History of Borneo to

raise funds and public awareness for conservation projects.

In 2003, Cede established North Borneo Safari, offering a range of nature tourism adventure and

conducts award-winning Photo safaris and wildlife watching trips in Parks and Wildlife Reserves in

Sabah.

His images are in constant demand for magazines and Malaysian tourism promotion material. He

was the contributing photographer for Wild Borneo, The National Parks and other Wild Places of

Malaysia and Orangutan (all published by New Holland, UK). Other books where he was the

principal photographer include Proboscis Monkeys of Borneo, Sabah Colour Guide: Kinabatangan,

Tabin: Sabah’s Greatest Wildlife Sanctuary, The Photographic Guide to Birds of Sepilok and

currently working on a book entitled “Sabah from Above”.

Filming Cede has over two decades of experience in leading wildlife tours and continues his quest in documenting birds and mammals of Borneo. He has been consultant to many Natural History Documentary filming in Borneo which includes the BBC and National Geographic TV. North Borneo Safari has been listed in the BBC’s Wildscreen (UK) directory as a recommended ground-handler for Natural-history documentary making in Sabah. Hence, this exposure has broaden our contacts with film-makers and photographers worldwide.
