Seminar Chair Matt Watson – Precious Metals Commodity Management LLC, Director and Founder

Matt is an Operations executive with over 30 years of international and domestic experience, including various engineering, statistical consulting, and supply chain commodity management positions.

Matt spent the first 15 years of his career teaching and consulting in statistical methods in a wide range of industries. Matt then transitioned to the Hard Disk Drive sector for 17-years, most of that time with Seagate Technology. It was here that Matt managed $540M in platinum and ruthenium positions.

Recently, Matt led Tanaka’s North American R&D and Marketing efforts for Tanaka America Inc. Matt helped lead the deeper penetration of the HDD market PVD targets, micro machined medical components and medial PGM wire product markets, and semiconductor/OLED wet chemistry markets.

Matt is now consulting once again, this time with Precious Metals Commodity Management LLC. This new consulting entity supports clients with precious metals

market research, risk management, trading/hedging, and design and process thrifting. Matt with working clients in the hard disk drive sector, mining, connector, PVD target fabrication sectors, and precious metals analysts. Matt has developed extensive three way auto catalyst demand models and forecasts, and is a student of the apparent structural deficits in palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, and iridium.

Philip Newman, Director and Partner, Metals Focus Ltd.

Stewart Brown, Principle Analyst, Johnson Matthey

Stewart is a Principal Analyst based at Johnson Matthey’s HQ in the UK and has been with the company for 15 years in both autocatalyst development and market research roles. Johnson Matthey’s Market Research team consists of a global team of experts in the supply and demand of platinum group metals, responsible for both long and short-term forecasting of the PGM market. Focussed primarily on sectors of industrial metal demand, Stewart’s specialist areas include forecasting PGM demand from various global automotive markets, the

electronics industry, autocatalyst and electronics recycling and PGM supply in North America. Prior to joining Johnson Matthey as a Development Chemist Stewart completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool in the field of electronically conducting polymers and holds a Master’s degree in chemistry.

Steve Golden, Chief Technology Officer, CDTi Advanced Materials Inc.

Dr. Golden has served as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Business Development and Strategy since April 2012. Dr. Golden joined CDTi as Chief Technology Officer in October 2010, immediately following the business combination of CDTi and Catalytic Solutions, Inc. Dr. Golden is the founder of Catalytic Solutions, Inc. and developer of its technology, and served as the Chief Technology Officer and Director of Catalytic Solutions, Inc. since 1996.

From 1994 to late 1995, Dr. Golden was the Research Director for Driesbach Electromotive Incorporated, a developer of advanced batteries based in Santa

Barbara, California. Dr. Golden received his doctorate in Material Science from Imperial College of Science and Technology in London and did extensive post-doctoral work at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Queensland, Australia in ceramic oxide and mixed metal oxide materials. Dr. Golden is the inventor of over 40 patents.

Oliver Krestin, Managing Director, Hensel Recycling

Oliver is currently serving as a Vice President for the International Precious Metals Institute. Oliver is also the Managing Director at Hensel Recycling. Oliver has been with Hensel in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany for the past 9 years in multiple roles.

Dr. Michelle Lynch is the Director of Enabled Future Limited, based in London, U.K. As the Director and Owner of Enabled Future Limited (EFL). EFL offers consulting, training and thought leadership services. The company focuses on evolution of industries, technologies, and supply and value chains in line with the growth in Advanced Manufacturing, the Circular Economy and Industry 4.0. Key sectors served include advanced materials, automotive, bio renewables, catalysts, chemicals, industrial manufacturing, precious metals, recycling and sustainability.

I have over 20 years of experience in the chemical industry including five years in consulting teams at Nexant and IHS Markit and 15 years in Johnson Matthey where I held roles in information science, market research and chemicals development. Dr. Jonathan Butler, Precious Metals Strategist and Business Development Manager at Mitsubishi Corporation based in London, U.K. John is specializing in precious metals sales, marketing and new business development mainly in the EMEA region, plus research, analysis and forecasting in gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium and iridium.

Before his tenure with Mitsubishi, Jonathan was the Publications Manager at Johnson Matthey. He was responsible for writing, editing and presenting Johnson Matthey's authoritative semi-annual review of the world markets for platinum group metals, 'Platinum'. Jonathan also manages the prestigious scientific and industrial journal Platinum Metals Review (PMR) and its website. He is an expert on platinum group metal markets and applications and has a particular interest in the interplay between clean energy, resources and business.

Previously, Jonathan worked as Senior Market Analyst at Fuel Cell Today and its consulting arm FCT Consulting, the leading market information provider on the global fuel cell industry. He has also worked as an adviser at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Edinburgh and MSc and MA degrees from the University of Oxford.

Johann Wiebe is the Lead Metals Analyst at Refinitiv GFMS, Thompson Reuters based in Chicago, Illinois. Lead precious metals analyst accustomed to working with large data sets, build, maintain and improve (econometric) demand as well as price forecasting models and present verbal and written retrospective as well as forward looking findings to external clients and stakeholders.
