A warmest welcome to all our players, parents and guardians involved in the Caulfield & District Netball Association Representative Program for 2020. The purpose of the CDNA Representative Program is to offer CDNA athletes the opportunity to receive high quality coaching and play within a representative environment in order to develop themselves to their highest potential. The focus is on skills, specialisation and player development but also enhancing sportsmanship, confidence, teamwork, high performance behaviours and providing a positive experience. Doing well on the scoreboard is also a welcome bonus. With over 310 athletes trialing for the 2020 program, representing CDNA is indeed a genuine honour, and therefore comes with certain expectations. This handbook has been created to give you as much information as we can for your reference as you participate in the year ahead. We sincerely hope you have a great year in 2020 and look forward to seeing you grow as players and people within our program.

Important communications throughout the year may be via email, text or an app platform (ie, Team App), and may come from the Coach, Team Manager or the CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor. All players and parents will be provided with their Coach’s contact phone number and email address in order to contact them when necessary. The contact details for those within the Association that you might need are on the back page of this booklet. CDNA often use their website or social media pages to announce achievements, information or other items for the wider community to view. Website – www.cdna.net.au Facebook - @CaulfieldDistrictNetballAssociation Instagram – @cdna_rep All policies relevant to Rep can be found on the CDNA website in the Rep section.

Being a Representative Program, the focus shall not solely be on winning, but also on player development, sportsmanship, confidence building and providing a positive experience. Therefore, a Representative Player Court Time Policy has been devised. It is available on our Website to view in its entirety at any time and is summarised below. Home and Away Games – allocation of court time is at the discretion of coaches, however it is expected that players should receive equal court time

across the season allowing for position availability, training attendance, participation and finals. This is also dependent on training and team criteria being met. Finals – All team members must receive court time in finals, however equal court time is not compulsory. Tournaments - Tournaments are entered for good reason, so all players should be given ample opportunity to participate on the day Fill-in players and Training Partners – when required to play in a team for a game or a tournament, they are entitled to equal court time alongside all other team members. Factors that may contribute to court time include commitment, attitude, attendance, punctuality, behaviour, injury etc. Players are welcome to seek feedback about this from their coaches.

Tournaments Dates for other tournaments we enter into throughout the year will be advised as soon as we can confirm them all. CDNA Annual Tournament Sunday 26th April 2020 Aside from other tournaments the Rep teams attend throughout the year, CDNA run their own annual tournament too. This tournament is compulsory for all of our own Rep players to attend, as it is a showcase of our venue, our program and our people. This is a day where we also rely on parents to help make a successful day. Presentation Night December 2020 * We realise players may be on holidays during some of these pre-season dates

As the CDNA Representative Program is representing the association, all participants in the program must play with a CDNA club within the Friday / Saturday domestic competition. That is, they must be an eligible club player. Open players are encouraged but not required to play within the CDNA competitions. All age groups are the given age and under. Ages of players are taken from the 31st December that year. The CDNA Representative Team Selection Policy states that all players must play in their own age group. It does, however, concede that on occasion, there may be exceptions to this rule. 11/U teams will only consist of players who will be turning 10 or 11 during that year.

All players are expected to arrive 45 minutes before their allocated game time each week. They must be dressed, strapped and jewellery free, ready to start warm up. Players are expected to play with maximum intensity and effort for the entire time they are on court and, if they are not on the court, they are expected to still be engaged in the game and supporting their teammates. Players are expected to focus on and listen to their Coach throughout games and also remain for a quick de-brief following the game. Absences from games should only be for extremely unavoidable and acceptable reasons. As much notice as possible should be given to the coach for planned vacations, school commitments or illness. Please refer to the CDNA Representative Player Attendance Policy, located on the CDNA website. The Waverley Netball Centre is located in Jells Park, Glen Waverley. Games commence for 13/U at 5:15pm and time slots continue throughout the evening. Season fixtures are available well in advance.

Coaches have a duty of care towards their players. They will be confidentially provided with any medical information that was given when registering. Any player who sustains an injury or becomes ill must notify their coach immediately. Injured players are still strongly encouraged to attend training, weekly games and tournaments where reasonable and not compromising recovery. A letter from the doctor / physiotherapist / medical professional stating that they have clearance to resume training or playing may be required. This is compulsory when returning from major injuries, in line with our CDNA Representative Player Return to Play Policy. This letter will be kept on file. Where a player has a long-term injury, the coach should be kept updated and informed about progress, rehabilitation, management and the effect on the player’s ability. In the event of an injury resulting in a player being unavailable for the remainder of the season, a player from the team directly below or the list of training partners may be elevated up into the team, in consultation with the CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor and in line with the CDNA Representative Player Movement Policy. Player movement and filling-in is sometimes unavoidable for Rep teams, due to injuries and other extenuating circumstances. Therefore, CDNA have created a Player Movement Policy to ensure consistency, transparency and simplicity for all involved. We ask that all parents and players take note of it and support the process.

CDNA actively supports Netball Victoria’s child protection policy and member protection policy. All coaches, managers and officials are required to hold a Working With Children Check and have a legal obligation to report any unacceptable matters to the CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor or CDNA Netball Operations Manager. No junior player or official is to be left unsupervised at training or matches.

Coinciding with the CDNA Rep By-laws plus the CDNA Parent Code of Behaviour and Social Media policy, we expect parents of players to behave in a fair and reasonable manner in line with the following expectations:

- Commit child to every training session, weekly game and occasional tournament

- Ensure child adheres to the CDNA Player Expectations and Player Code of Behaviour

- Respect and support the coach, team manager, CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor, team members, CDNA rep squad members, opposition members and fellow parents

- Respect umpires and their decisions - Be aware of and adhere to the CDNA policies and procedures - Take turns being the official scorer of weekly matches at Waverley - Assist with various roles at tournament

Parents will be asked to sign a Parent Code of Behaviour form.

Coinciding with the CDNA Rep By-laws plus the CDNA Player Code of Behaviour and Social Media policy that all players are required to sign, all players are expected to:

- Commit to every training session, weekly game and occasional tournament (in line with the CDNA Representative Player Attendance Policy)

utmost pride, as would be expected of a CDNA Rep player

Players and parents are encouraged to address any concerns firstly with the relevant Coach at an appropriate and agreed time and place, away from the playing group. Coaches should not be approached before, during or after a game if a parent has an issue they wish to discuss. Please contact the coach the day after the game via email to organise a mutually convenient time to speak. Any urgent matters can be brought to the CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor in person or via email.

Each Rep team will have a Team Manager. This can be appointed by the Coach or the CDNA Representative Strategic Advisor and may be an appropriate parent within the team or another suitable candidate. All Team Manager roles will be voluntary positions, but they will be expected to sign a CDNA Code of Behaviour and adhere to a Job Description and expected to behave appropriately at both training and games. The expectations of the Team Manager are:

- To support the Coach - To create and submit a game scoring roster to all of the parents within

the team, ensuring the score sheet is filled out correctly - To communicate any important information about weekly games,

training, tournaments, clinics etc to all team members in a timely and professional manner

- Coordinate parent assistance with tournaments

The CDNA Representative Team Selection Policy can be viewed in its entirety on the CDNA website.

Players have been selected into age group squads. The final decision on individual team selections will be made after the pre-season and possibly after one or two games of the new season. It will be based on the following:

- Skills - Work ethic - Fitness - Behaviour and attitude - Commitment - Player combinations

The first and second team in each 13/U and 15/U team will ideally comprise 9 players and the third team will comprise 10 players. The 17/U and Open teams will ideally comprise 10 players. 11/U players will remain in a squad throughout the year and will be placed into teams to play tournaments. These teams may change each tournament. CDNA reserve the right to conduct mid-season trials and/or re-grade some teams or players. This may be necessary for several reasons and is supported by the CDNA Representative Player Movement Policy. Training Partners Training partners have also been selected for each age group and are a vital part of our program. They are invited to train every week and will be called upon to play in teams or tournaments under various circumstances, including injury, illness, holidays, school camp. Training partners will train alongside the teams allocated in their age group.
