Summer 2017 July 24, 2017 2017 Moffat Co Horse Power Draft Show Review The Moffat County Horse Power, Draft Horse show and Feed team Race for 2017 was a success! We had 6 farm teams, 2 singles, two hitch teams, one 6 horse hitch and 2 eight horse hitches that participated in the show this year. This show also had some of the best drivers in the business driving, Enos Yoder, Freeman Yoder, Norman Yoder, and Scott Banga! I considered us pretty lucky to have them all here! We started off the weekend with a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night. I always like getting together and getting to talk to old friends and meet new ones. My family was there to help again, I don’t know that I could do this without them! Our judge this year was Bud Walsh. He was a great judge for our mixed show of hitches and farm teams. We started off the day with a Men’s and Ladies cart with lots of participants. While waiting for the hitch teams, the farm teams and singles did a timed obstacle course. We also did an exhibition on a Gypsy horse that came to the show. We were suppose to have more than one, but she is the only one that ended up coming, but Syneva Blatchford was a great sport, she even brought a write up for me about Gypsy horses. It was a nice addition. The rest of the show was filled with beautiful hitch horses and Farm team competitions. We had a hitch team, 4 horse, and 6 horse hitch classes on Sunday. In between the hitch classes, we had youth classes and enough farm teams to do our log skid competition, (that they chose to do it on foot) a feed team race, and a fast, fun team barrel race! We also did a few single competitions for the singles to participate in. CDHA 1 COLORADO DRAFT HORSE http://coloradodrafthorseassn.org

2017 Moffat Co Horse Power Draft Show Review

The Moffat County Horse Power, Draft Horse show and Feed team Race for 2017 was a success!

Summer 2017 July 24, 2017Since I do the show during the Grand Old West Days in Craig, they wanted us to do a 2 day show, so on Monday morning, everyone had gone home. Everyone but Highpoint Clydesdales eight horse hitch, and Yoder Family Hay eight horse hitch. So we did a magnificent 8 horse hitch show followed by pictures. It was Enos Yoder against Freeman Yoder, and what a show they put on! Then the Anson boys invited anyone to come down to the arena and try their

hand at driving their two teams of Belgians. It was a popular event and I believe the spectators appreciated the opportunity!

It was a spectacular show, with breeds including Clydesdales, black Clydesdales, Percherons, Belgians, Shires, and Brabant’s. We had teams from Westcliffe CO, Granby CO, Ogden UT, Eaton CO, Longmont CO, Montrose CO, Cedaredge CO, Ignacio CO, and Rifle CO. As always, a great bunch of friendly folks getting together to enjoy working our horses! I was happy to have them all!

WE ARE SO PROUD! This year’s training show had an amazing turn-out, with 20 exhibitors, several from as far away as Colorado Springs, Evergreen and the Western Slope. This show served as a first time show experience for both youth and adult exhibitors. Many of our veteran exhibitors branched out this year and showed in new classes too. The Working Team On The Rail Class had to be split into 2 heats and we had a drive off! We served our Grass-Fed home raised beef this year and received rave reviews! The weather was fantastic, the PA system was loud and clear; the horses looked great and a good time was had by all! A BIG CONGRATULATIONS is in order to: Heather Erickson for her Hi-Point WIN! Jack Taylor for his Reserve Hi-Point WIN! Julie Hodziewich for her Supreme Halter Champion WIN! Nicole Hodziewich for her Reserve Supreme Halter Champion WIN! A special award was given this year in honor of a person who made a difference in this show every year. She helped us in the days leading up to the show and the day of…. She was indispensable in the office! She was a fierce competitor who always exhibited true sportsmanship. This year’s Lisa Wilson Memorial Sportsmanship Award was earned by Mike Anson. Our show continues to be astonishingly successful and we absolutely could not do it without our fantastic exhibitors. Thank you Exhibitors for showing off your amazing gentle giants! And as always, thank you for keeping our pasture squeaky clean! We sincerely appreciate your courtesy. We are grateful to our 2017 Sponsors & Supporters: Thank you to: Gracey Services, Inc., Murdoch’s, Bomgaars, Latigo Lariat, Brian & Kit McCollum, Weld It, Reality Alpacas, 287 Supply, Colorado Draft Horse & Equipment Auction, Clydesdale Corners, Mike & Mardi Anson, Laura Curtis, Candence Hood, Shandy O’s Original Fine Art. Congratulations to the proud recipient of this year’s Top Sponsor Award: Gracey Services, Inc. Our Top Sponsors are given an Engraved Brass Plated Black Leather Draft Horse Halter. A Special Thank You to our Judge: Angela Walsh and our Ring Steward: Tom Ferriter, for not only officiating our show in fine fashion, but also for your donations! And of course, Thank You to our volunteers and staff, the show would be a disaster without your help! We are currently working on making improvements for next year’s show. 2018 will be our 5 year Anniversary Show. We’re making plans for an even bigger show with even more giveaways and additional classes! ~ With Eternal Hope, Eternal Hope Equestrian Centre, LLC Mike and Christy Staab Duane and Shandy Daubert
