SAINT ANNE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH BRISTOL, VIRGINIA October 30, 2016 Remember St. Anne’s in your Will and Trusts
What a beautiful first reading we have today! It almost
sings of God’s tender care for all creation. As we gather for
our celebration today, it is comforting to know how much
God loves us and wants only the best for us. As this Jubilee
Year of Mercy winds down, it is good to be reminded that
God has mercy on all.

2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14
God will raise us to live again forever.
2 Thessalonians 2:16—3:5
May the Lord encourage your hearts.
Luke 20:27-38 (or) Luke 20:27, 34-38
In God there is no death.
Jesus’ response to the legalists trying to trip him up next
Sunday is simple. Don’t sweat the details of eternal life —
just have faith. There are times when we too can get caught
up in the trivia and miss the important things in life. Let us
try to set aside inconsequential things and focus on God’s
message of faith and life for each of us.

MONDAY Weekday Mass: Don’t forget—we are now
having weekday Mass in the chapel on Mondays at 12:15.
This Tuesday, November 1st, is All Saints Day—a
Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. On All Saints
Day we come together to rejoice in all the men and
women, blest in the eyes of the Lord, who celebrate
the heavenly liturgy. Our Masses on All Saints will be
Tuesday—12:15 and 7 p.m. (Incense at 7 p.m. Mass.)
Please note: No 8:30a Mass or Adoration this Tuesday.
The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed is
celebrated by the Church on November 2. On all Souls
Day we exercise the special charity of prayer for the
repose of the souls in purgatory and remember all our
loved ones who have died. Join us for the 7 p.m. Mass
this Wednesday, November 2. We will pray
especially for those Catholics whose funerals/burials
were at St. Anne’s this past year. There will also be a
book in the commons where you can inscribe the
names of your friends or family who have died this
past year. Incense will be used at this liturgy.
Please note: There will not be an 8:30a Mass Wednesday.

Is 40 Days for Life Political? No. 40 Days for Life has official status as a non-profit
organization under section 501c3 of the United States tax
code. As such, it is not permitted to participate in political
campaigns. This was a conscious decision by the board of
directors, who have been called to rely on prayer and
fasting, rather than political action, to end abortion. Please
join others for a peaceful, prayer vigil in front of the local
abortion clinic on West State Street (across from the old K-
Mart) every week day during the 40 Days for Life:
September 28—November 6. Tri-Cities Catholics take
responsibility for all the Fridays, Noon-4:00pm.
Be sure to stop by the table in the commons to pick up free
materials about a variety of Respect Life issues.
Baptismal Preparation—Nov. 5 Baptism preparation class is this Saturday, Nov. 5, 2-4pm
in the Great Room. If you have a child under the age of 7
who needs baptism or you are expecting the birth of your
child soon, please plan to attend. The next baptismal
preparation class will be held in January. To register, please

[email protected] no later than Wed.,

regular Adoration next Tuesday, November 8, 9:15am-

our Lord and join us for Benediction at 4:30pm.
Turkey Time! Get feathers this weekend or next!!!!
Items due in by November 13
As all of you have seen our famous turkey has returned to
the commons. Social Ministry asks that you participate in
our Thanksgiving outreach by plucking one or more
feathers from our turkey this weekend or next and return
the requested items to the commons the weekend of Nov.
5/6 or no later than Nov. 12/13. These food items and gift
cards will be delivered to needy families in the Bristol TN/
VA area so they can enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving.
If all feathers are plucked and you want to contribute, the
Social Ministry would appreciate checks and WalMart gift
cards that can be used for various outreach projects. Your
checks and gift cards can be placed in the decorated box
provided, which will be placed in the corner of the
commons near the grocery drop off.
THANK YOU St. Anne parishioners for your generous

What’s New in the Parish Library???
You might be surprised to know that our Parish Library has
over 1000 books and DVDs, and numerous resource
materials for your use. The parish library is located in the
office conference room with an overflow located in the
Saint Vincent de Paul Center where most of our adult
religious education offerings take place during the week.
This weekend and next weekend, we will have a display of
new library materials showcased on the table in the
commons. If you would like to “check out” any of the
materials, just sign the library card and leave it in the
basket. There is a “blue return box” in the parish library for
returned books. Enjoy!
PRE-ELECTION STATEMENT: Bishop DiLorenzo
(Richmond) and Bishop Loverde (Arlington) have issued a
pre-election statement to guide Virginia Catholics before
going to the voting booth Nov. 8. They call on Catholics to
carefully form their consciences, pray, learn the issues,
consider candidates’ character and use principles of
Catholic social teaching to guide them. You can read their
statement on our parish website at www.stannes-bristol.org.
Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time

Advent Scripture Study
The Infancy Narratives of Jesus Be sure to stop by the religious education table in the
commons to join the Advent Scripture Study group that
meets on the Wednesdays of Advent, 1:00-2:30pm, to
study The Infancy Narratives of Jesus. The infancy
accounts serve as overtures to the writing of the evangelists
and as bridges connecting the Old and New Testaments.
They point back to the history of Israel and forward to the
ministry of Jesus, culminating in his cross and resurrection.
Sing up now so that your study set can be ordered. Our first
session will be on November 30. Cost of study set: $13 to
be paid at the first session.
Adoration for the Family

join us on Friday evening, November 18, from

young married couple from Richmond will lead
us in prayer with Praise and Worship Music and
Vespers as we approach the end of the Jubilee
Year of Mercy. Confessions will also be
