All Welcome

Welcome back to Week 2 of Term 4!

Parents and carers are an important and valued part of the school commu-

nity. Last term I frequently mentioned in the newsletter planning taking

place for the 2018-20 School Plan. As part of this process students and

staff participated in the Tell Them From Me surveys. The school also invit-

ed parents to participate in the Partners in Learning Parent Feedback sur-

vey, which is an online survey that takes about 15 minutes to complete. It

is anonymous, and voluntary and the survey feedback will be used to make

practical improvements and inform the school plan. If you have more than

one child at this school, and feel that your children’s experiences differ,

you can complete the survey more than once. As of last week parent re-

sponse has been low and I would encourage parents to complete the sur-

vey. The survey ‘window’ has been extended and it will now close this

Friday, 20 October 2017. Parents can access and complete their surveys

online at https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/pt9jz.

Literacy and Numeracy Initiative

Coleambally Central School has been invited as a supplementary school to

participate in an evaluation of the new Learning Progressions, which will

replace the current Literacy and Numeracy Continuums, and the revised

Kindergarten Best Start Assessment. Primary staff will have the opportuni-

ty to participate in professional development and the school will have ac-

cess to these initiatives well in advance of other schools.

Rural and Remote Grant Last week we received news that we have been successful in obtaining a grant of $20,000 as part of a Rural and Remote initiative to implement and evaluate the NSW Career Development Continuum K-12. We will be working as a cluster with feeder schools Darlington Point Public School and St Peter’s Primary School to promote primary students understanding of careers and career pathways. Exciting!

Year 6 into 7

Our 6 into 7 Transition Program commenced last Friday and will run for

another two days, Friday 20 October and Wednesday 25 October 2017.

Current Year 6 students from Coleambally Central School, St Peters

School and Darlington Point Public School will have the opportunity to

spend the day in Secondary classes so that they can experience what High

School will be like.

Kindergarten Transition

‘Mini Kindy’, the Kindergarten Transition for 2018 Kindergarten students, commenced last Thursday and Mrs

Foster has informed me that the children thoroughly enjoyed the first session. ‘Mini Kindy’ will run for four

weeks, with the next session to be held this Thursday, 19 October 2017 from 12.30 to 3.00 pm. Students in-

volved will each need to bring a school bag, packed lunch, hat and water bottle. Please note that parents have to

have completed an enrolment form for their child to attend, please contact the front office.

Primary News

Planning is underway for the annual Primary Intensive Swimming Program, which will take place in Week 9 and

Week 10 of this term. Parents of students in Years 5 and 6 who will be participating in the excursion to Canberra

are also reminded that a payment plan is in place and are encouraged to use this option and continue with regular

contributions. Parents will also shortly receive information on Book Packs for 2018.

PBL Draw

Congratulations to Chelsea Haas-Williams and Hugh White, who won Canteen Vouchers in Monday’s PBL

Draw. Keep displaying positive behaviours and you will be

rewarded. Thank you to the PBL team!

Until next week,

Timothy Allen
