St Bridget of IrelandCATHOLIC CHURCH1024 W. Main St. Berryville, VA 22611
December 23, 2018
St. Bridget (or Brigid) of Kildare is one of the three major patron saints of Ireland along with Saint Patrick and Saint Columba. Saint Bridget’s faith and labors for
the Lord are remembered among the Irish people through prayers, sacred places, blessings and customs. St. Bridget was an extraordinary woman of faith: strong in her mission, loyal to the Lord, faithful to the Church, generous to the poor and hospitable to missionaries. St. Bridget laid strong foundations for the Church in Ireland. Her feast day is February 1st, the first day of the Celtic Spring.

Bishop’s Message Christmas 2018Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In hope, we rejoice this Christmas, for a light will shine on us this day: the Lord is born for us. On Christmas and each day this coming year, may we seek this Light before all else and allow it to radiate within our diocese, homes and communities.
Even in the midst of the darkness we experience within our world, nation and Church, we are filled with joyful hope as
we celebrate the truth that Jesus, our Lord and Savior and the Light of the World, has dispelled the darkness. Therefore, with trust and confidence, we dare to pray for one another. We pray for all who lead and serve within the Church, that enlightened by the new radiance of God’s incarnate Word, what we know in faith will shine through our deeds. We pray that God will show our civil leaders the way of truth, guiding them to defend the sacredness of all human life. We pray that the whole human family will imitate the Holy Family in practicing virtue and in the bonds of charity. We pray that those in need will experience the radiance of God’s love in and through our generosity, goodness and sacrifices. Finally, we pray that we, who know God already by faith, may pass through the shadows of this world to reach the brightness of our eternal home.
Please be assured of a special remembrance at the Masses I will celebrate on Christ-mas. Through the intercession of Mary our Mother and Saint Joseph, may Our Lord Jesus Christ fill you with the gift of his peace and favor this Christmas and always
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge Bishop of Arlington

December 23, 2018 Divine Mercy As The Child Jesus Said: “Look at the sky. Do you see this moon and these stars? These stars are the souls of faithful Christians, and the moon is the souls of religious. Do you see how great the difference is between the light of the moon and the light of the stars? Such is the difference in heaven between the soul of a religious and the soul of a faithful Christian. True greatness is in loving God and in humility.” (St. Faustina Diary, 424)

Saint of the Week: Saint Irmina of Oehren:
Irmina was born to Saint Dagobert II and the Anglo-Saxon princess
Matilda. Her sister was Saint Adela of Pfalzel, and her grand-father was Saint Sigebert III of Austrasia. Prin-cess. Irmina was betrothed at age
15 to Count Herman, but he died on their wedding day. Irmina became a nun and founded a Benedictine
convent in the old castle of Honrien at Trier, Germany, given to her by her father. She was a generous benefac-
tor to Celtic and Saxon monks. At one point, an epidemic threatened
to wipe out her community, but they were saved through the intercessory
prayers of Saint Willibrord of Ech-ternach. In gratitude, Irmina gave Willibrord the land at Echternach
where he later established the great abbey that bore his name. Irmina’s
feast day is December 24th.
There will be no RE class the 23rd or the 30th for our Christmas break.
Class will resume January 6th.
Parent Meeting for First Penance on January 3rd at 7 PM.
